Kids have been back in class now for a month or more and many schools are holding Parent Nights. It is a chance for teachers to explain what the students will be learning, and to share information about spe-cial projects or requirements that parents need to know about. The principal might talk about new changes in the curriculum or construction or upgrade plans that are new. It is a hope-filled, exciting time. No matter how skilled the teacher may be, or how impressive the course of study, a child still learns more at home than in school. Schools can teach values, but at home they must be lived. Schools can stress the way to success, but at home it must be planned and encouraged. Schools can demand excel-lence, but it must be nurtured and nourished at home. Schools can offer awards and recognition for a job

well done, but it can only be confirmed by family and friends. Faith is the same way, because faith is more caught than taught. The church can teach it, but families must live it. The church can stress the way to heaven, but families must show it. The church can demand excellence in service and worship, but families must prac-tice it. It is good example and family practice that makes the difference. Let’s strive for top grades this year. Let’s teach what we prac-tice and practice what we teach.

SAINT THERESE OF LISIEUX On October 1, we honor St. Thérèse of Lisieux on her feast day. In 1886, St. Thérèse had a profound experience of intimate union with God, which she described as a “complete conver-sion.” The following year, in a papal audience, she asked for and obtained permission from Pope Leo XIII to enter the Carmelite Monastery at the age of 15. Her philosophy was that – what was important was not doing great works, but doing little things with the power of love. She believed that if we can maintain the right attitude, then nothing shall remain that can’t be accomplished. This was the “little way” which Therese sought to follow. Since her death, millions have been inspired by her ‘little way’ of loving God and neighbor. Many miracles have been attrib-uted to her intercession. Saint Thérèse was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church by Pope John Paul II in 1997 - 100 years after her death. She is only the third woman to be so proclaimed, after Saint Catherine of Siena and Saint Teresa of Avila.

CELEBRATE PRIESTHOOD You are invited to join the Tastes of the Diocese 2018 Gala on Thursday, October 18th at the Atrium at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester from 5:30 - 7:30pm. On this benefit evening we will recognize diocesan priests and support the Clergy Retirement Fund. OCTOBER—ROSARY MONTH The month of October is traditionally the Month of the Rosary. We will have a rosary devotion on weekdays at 7pm (bilingual), on Saturdays at 3:30pm before the 4pm Mass (English), and on Sun-days after the 11am Mass (Polish). This is a great opportunity for our parish family to begin saying the rosary not only in church but also at home. Our Blessed Mother requested in her apparitions in Fatima to say the rosary for the intention of world peace. Praying the rosary is the shortcut of the mysteries of our faith according to John Paul II. We need prayer for peace in the world and in our families. Let’s begin now as October is a perfect opportunity.

FALL APPEAL FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOLS A Catholic school education seeks to educate not only the mind with a love for the truth but also to touch the hearts and form the consciences of its students with a desire and commitment to pur-sue what is good, right, and just. Therefore, we ask for your continued and generous support to this Annual Fall Collection for Catholic Schools at all Masses this weekend. Bardzo brakuje w świecie postawy wyrażonej przez Pana Jezusa słowami: "Kto nie jest przeciwko nam, ten jest z nami". Ludzie bowiem są i zawsze będą różni, ale odmienność często jest traktowana jak zagrożenie. Świadczy to jednak o słabości.

Tylko ludzie słabi nie potrafią poruszać się w zróżnicowanym (pluralistycznym) świecie, dlatego robią wszystko, aby była jednolitość. Tymczasem Jezus przyszedł zjednoczyć świat, a nie ujednolicić. Zjednoczenie zakłada różnorodność. Jeśli więc zwalczamy odmienność, stajemy się wrogami jedności, a przy okazji Jezusa.

ANNIVERSARY OF HURRICANE MARIA While Hurricane Florence causes devastation for the Carolinas, the one-year anniversaries of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria quietly passed by. On September 20th 2017, Hurricane Maria pummeled the island territory of Puerto Rico as a Category-4 storm. Maria is regarded as being the worst natural disaster on record to affect Dominica and Puerto Rico. Although by most news accounts people are still struggling in Puerto Rico with necessities including power and drinking water, the students of St. Joseph School are happy to hear that their former classmate, Shamer Martinez, has resumed classes in her home town of Santa Monica, Bayamon Puerto Rico. Shamer, the daughter of Shaila Luna and Ruben Rodriguez, left Puerto Rico after her home and school were devasted by the hurricanes. She was encouraged to go to the United States to continue her studies by her principal at

Escuela Superior Papa Juan XXIII. However, unlike classmates who traveled to Miami, Shamer elected to stay with her aunt and uncle, Pamela and Hank Benes, and grandmother Mercedes Luna, here in Webster, MA. In October 2017, Shamer joined her cousin, Hayley, at St. Joseph School. While Shamer was made to feel welcome by her new peers, her biggest challenge was attending classes in English. Nevertheless, Shamer excelled. She made the Honor Roll throughout her stay; was selected as the Sixth Grade Student of the Month in January 2018; represented Puerto Rico wearing traditional Puerto Rican apparel during the St. Joseph School Annual Migration Mass and Celebration; and, received her First Communion in May. Throughout her stay in Webster, Shamer’s parents traveled back and forth to Puerto Rico to oversee the repairs to their home. It wasn’t until this past June that their power was restored. At that time, they also determined that her school would reopen in

August and Shamer would return to Puerto Rico for school. Shamer’s stay at St. Joseph School culminated with a surprise birthday party thrown by her classmates. When asked what she would miss most, Shamer replied,” I will definitely miss Tati Pamela, Tio Hank, Mama Mercedes, and Baby Hannah. I will also miss all of my new friends and the teachers who helped me so much while I was here.” She also stated that she will miss the field trips she attended and Math lessons with Sr. Mary Ann Papiez.” We will miss you too, Shamer! Sharing your experiences, traditions, and culture was certainly an educational experience for the St. Joseph School community as well. Best wishes as you return to your home and continue your studies in Puerto Rico.

PAŹDZIERNIK—MIESIĄC RÓŻAŃCA ŚWIĘTEGO „Październik zalicza się do cichych okresów roku kościelnego. W ciągu ostatnich stuleci jako miesiąc różańca, miesiąc cierpliwej modlitwy, zyskał jednak szczególne oblicze. Modlitwa straciła dziś jakby w Kościele swe oczywiste znaczenie. Musimy więc na nowo odnaleźć drogę do Boga słuchającego i przemawiającego, a raczej musimy przyjąć dar tej drogi. Zacznijmy spokojnie w tej refleksji od modlitwy różańcowej. Dlaczego właściwie pozdrawiamy Maryję? Czy nie sprowadza to nas może na jakąś boczną drogę, kiedy to przecież Chrystus stanowi centrum? Można na to odpowiedzieć najpierw w sposób najzupełniej pozytywistyczny: Pozdrawiamy Ją, bo odpowiada to proroctwu, a zatem i wezwaniu Pisma świętego: «Odtąd błogosławioną zwać mnie będą wszystkie narody» (Łk 1, 48)” (kard. J. Ratzinger)

Nabożeństwa różańcowe w naszej Bazylice sprawowane są od poniedziałku do piątku o 7 wieczorem, w soboty o 3:30 po południu oraz w niedzielę po Mszy o godzinie 11:00.

Święta Teresa urodziła się 2 stycznia 1873 r. w Alencon (Francja). Jej ojciec był zegarmistrzem, matka zaś koronkarką. Rodzice byli l u d ź m i p o b o ż n y m i i doświadczonymi przez cierpienie – wcześniej stracili już czwórkę dzieci. Okazało się, że i Teresie grozi śmierć, gdyż matka nie mogła jej karmić. Po kilku miesiącach prawie zagłodzonym dzieckiem zajęła się wiejska kobieta, u której mała Tereska spędziła

pierwszy rok swojego życia. 13 maja 1883 r. została uzdrowiona z ciężkiej choroby za pośrednictwem Matki Boskiej Zwycięskiej. W wieku 14 lat, w noc Bożego Narodzenia 1886 r. otrzymała łaskę wzmocnienia w znoszeniu cierpień. Latem odkryła w sobie powołanie misyjne. Poruszona do głębi obrazem ukrzyżowanego Jezusa, odczuła pragnienie ratowania grzesznych dusz. Zanosiła żarliwe modlitwy w intencji nawrócenia mordercy, niejakiego Pranziniego. Skazaniec w ostatniej chwili przed ścięciem pocałował krucyfiks. 9 kwietnia 1888 r. wstąpiła do Karmelu w Lisieux. Rok później – 10 stycznia rozpoczęła nowicjat. 8 września 1890 r. złożyła swoje śluby zakonne. Rok później odkryła „małą drogę dziecięctwa duchowego”. Pragnęła by jej życie stało się aktem doskonałej miłości, a cierpienie możliwością jej pogłębienia i wykazania. W lutym 1893 r. została mistrzynią nowicjatu. Pod koniec 1894 r. matka Agnieszka poprosiła ją, by spisała wspomnienia z dzieciństwa. W następnym roku Teresa ofiarowała się miłości miłosiernej Boga oraz została duchową siostrą kleryka, który przygotowywał się do misji. Napisała też pierwszy rękopis „A”, który wraz z jej kolejnymi rękopisami „B” i „C” stanowią autobiografię świętej, opublikowane po jej śmierci. Nocą w Wielki Piątek 1896r. pojawił się pierwszy krwotok z płuc. Niedługo później przeżyła noc wiary. Zmierzając ku śmierci zawierzyła się Jezusowi, przeżywając z Nim swoją drogę cierpienia. 30 września 1897 r. umarła w ekstazie miłości. W 1997 r. ogłoszono ją Doktorem Kościoła.

ZAPROSZENIE NA PRÓBY CHÓRÓW Święty Augustyn pisał, że „kto śpiewa, dwa razy się modli”. Przytaczając ten cytat pragniemy serdecznie zaprosić na próby chórów parafialnych. Każdy jest zaproszony do włączenia się w modlitwę poprzez muzykę. Próby chóru polskiego odbywają się w środy o godzinie 8:00 wieczorem, natomiast próby chóru anglojęzycznego we wtorki o godzinie 6:00 wieczorem i w soboty o godzinie 3:30 po południu. Każda nowa osoba jest mile widziana. Zapraszamy na próby również w charakterze obserwatora, dzięki czemu można samemu zobaczyć, ocenić, posłuchać. CELEBROWANIE KAPŁAŃSTWA Jesteśmy zaproszeni do udziału w gali Tastes of the Diocese 2018, która odbędzie się w czwartek, 18 paź-dziernika w godzinach od 5:30 do 7:30 pm w atrium szpi-tala św. Wincenta w Worcester. Gala ta jest wyrazem wdzięczności za posługę dla księży diecezjalnych jednoc-ześnie okazją do wsparcia tych spośród nich, którzy odeszli na emeryturę. Koszt wstępu to $100 od osoby. W załączeniu do biuletynu znajduje się broszurka z infor-macjami, jak można zapisać się do udziału w tym niez-wykłym wydarzeniu.

SYSTEM OGRZEWANIA I CHŁODZENIA W KOŚCIELE Po raz kolejny składamy serdeczne „Bóg zapłać” wszystkim Parafianom, którzy przekazali ofiarę na rzecz systemu ogrzewania i chłodzenia w kościele. Całkowity koszt urządzenia to: $27,898.40. W zeszłym tygodniu zebraliśmy kwotę: $920, co razem z poprzednimi zbiórkami daje kwotę: $14550. W tym tygodniu serdecznie dziękujemy za wsparcie następującym osobom: Jeremy West (ku pamięci Helen Lipski), Timothy West (ku pamięci Siostry Valenty), Sylvia Kozlowski, Craig Holmberg (ku pamięci Francis Przystas), Edward Ostrokolowicz, Theresa Wagner (ku pamięci Richard E Wagner oraz Leon i Czesława Lenkiewicz), Mariusz Chmielewski (ku pamięci Władysław Babicz), Kazimierz Piwowarczyk, Stanislaw Piwowarczyk, Anna Kokosinska, Kathleen i Arthur McLean (ku pamięci Bernard Szymanski). Niech Bóg błogosławi za Waszą hojność, dzięki której w naszej bazylice możemy czuć się komfortowo.

RCIA Pierwsze spotkanie dla osób dorosłych, pragnących pogłebić lub przywrócić swoją jedność z Chrystusem i Kościołem, odbędzie dziś na plebanii po Mszy św. o godz. 9:30.

KORONKA DO BOŻEGO MIŁOSIERDZIA W piątek, 5 października o godz. 15:00 oraz w Niedzielę, 7 października również o godz. 15:00 zgromadzimy się w naszej świątyni na Koronce do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Piątkowe nabożeństwo jes związane z zakończeniem całodziennej Adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu z okazji pierwszego piątku. Wszystkich parafian serdecznie zapraszamy do udziału we wspólnej modlitwie.

ADORACJA PIERWSZOPIĄTKOWA W piątek, 5 października obchodzić będziemy pierwszy piątek miesiąca. Członkowie Sacred Heart Society zgromadzą się na Mszy św. o godz. 7:00, która będzie sprawowana w intencji zmarłych członków Stowarzyszenia. Msza św. po polsku o godz. 19:00 a pół godziny wcześniej możliwość spowiedzi.
