John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea
and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!”
It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said:
A voice of one crying out in the desert,
Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his
waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan
were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River
as they acknowledged their sins.
When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees
coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers!
Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance.
And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our
father.’ For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these
stones. Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees.
Therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit
will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
I am baptizing you with water, for repentance,
but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I.
I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
His winnowing fan is in his hand.
He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn,
but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.” Mt 3:1-12

Pierre middle school. His funeral mass is January 12th at St. John’s.
Our Diocesan Pastoral Priorities: In the coming weeks, we will pray about reconciliation, with the example of saints and inspiring ancestors, as they lived fully the faith. “Reconciliation with God leads … to other reconciliations, which repair the other breaches caused by sin. The forgiven penitent is reconciled with himself in his inmost being, where he regains his innermost truth. He is reconciled with his brethren whom he has in some way offended and wounded. He is reconciled with the Church. He is reconciled with all creation. Christian prayer extends to the forgiveness of enemies, transfiguring the disciple by configuring him to his Master. Forgiveness is a highpoint of Christian prayer; only hearts attuned to God's compassion can receive the gift of prayer. Forgiveness also bears witness that, in our world, love is stronger than sin. The martyrs of yesterday and today bear this witness to Jesus. Forgiveness is the fundamental condition of the reconciliation of the children of God with their Father and of men with one another. (Catechism of Catholic Church paragraph
1469-1470)”
Advent Wreath: Second Week of Advent: Father in heaven, set our hearts ablaze to follow in the steps of John the Baptist. May we bring light and love to all we meet, that the darkness of sin and fear may be overcome. In Christ's name we

Third Week of Advent As we draw near to you, Lord God, keep us aware of your presence in all we do. Come with power to enlighten us by your grace, that we may
live in praise and peace all our days. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The quilts truly add to the atmosphere of the retreat center and are an integral part of our guest experience. As we reach the completion of our 5th year of operation, a few of the quilts are showing some wear and tear. If you’re interested helping us replenish our supply and or repair quilts that have been worn, please contact us at 605-716-0925 or email [email protected].
