Happy Father’s Day

Every year we faithfully celebrate “Father’s Day” on the third Sunday in June It is not just a celebration that we look forward to, but to honor and respect the wonderful role fathers play in our life and in our growth as we start growing up. Father's Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, pa-ternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.

We have honored our bonds with our fathers and their influence in our society. We don’t always see or talk about the sacrifices they make to support their fam-ilies. Father’s day is the perfect opportunity to recognize and thank the hard-working dads and their impact in and out of the office.

We thank them for their love and encouragement in raising us and shaping us into the people we are today. Our dads are important people and they deserve the celebration! Gifts are great opportunities to express our love and affection for our fathers, but more than that would be to reassure your dad that you are proud of him and all he has done for you.

That reminds me of my own Dad whom I loved and appreciated for the wonder-ful person that he was. In my mind the idea of my dad as I was growing up was that of a super hero, who could do anything no matter what, if something was broken, he could fix it; a man for all seasons and inspirational in leading me to live a devout family life. It would be nice to recognize the qualities of a father on father’s day by giving him a hug and telling him how much you love and appre-ciate him.

Besides God as our Father, we have our earthly father whom we lovingly call “Dad or Daddy.” As long as we are holding the hand of our Dad we are not scared because we are safe under his care. That reminds me of a story of a little boy who went about playing on a ship when the other passengers learned that the ship was going to sink. Everyone was running around to save his/her life and when they saw the little boy happily playing and not perturbed with the news of the sinking ship, they asked him aren’t you scared? The little boy re-plied, I am not; because my father is the captain of the ship.

For those of you who are blessed to have your fathers with you, show them your affection and do something special that your fathers would love. For those who no longer have their fathers, you can continue thanking God for them and don’t forget to pray and offer masses for them as that is all that we can best do to honor their memory now.

I wish all father’s “Happy Father’s Day” and know that you are loved very much by your loved ones.

-Fr. Mario

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Today’s feast, extending a di-mension of Easter joy into Ordi-nary Time, reminds us that every aspect of worship centers on the mystery of God in three persons. At baptism, we are initiated into Christ and the Spirit. The Creed we recite at Mass every Sunday has its roots in the ancient cele-bration of baptism, when a new believer was questioned at the edge of the waters of the font with three questions: Do you be-lieve in God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit? Three questions, three affirmations, three immersions into the saving waters. Because every liturgy abounds with references to the Trinity, not only in words but in blessings by the sign of the cross, this feast was not easily accepted into the calendar. Pope Alexander in the eleventh centu-ry remarked that the liturgy is so laden with praise of the Trinity that there was no need for a special feast. Two hundred years later, while in exile in France, Pope John XXII pro-claimed the feast, but it was not until 1911 that Pope St. Pius X gave it status as a solemnity. A favorite image in art for today is the Icon of the Trinity, showing three glorious winged men seat-ed at a table laden with bread and a cup of wine. It recalls Abraham’s hospitality to angels and gives expression to the in-ner life of God, a life lived in rela-tionship, a life poured out in abundance whenever Christians gather at the table of the Eucha-rist to give praise to the Father, in Christ, in the embrace of the Spirit.

If you have a financial concern, please contact Mrs. Stanton at 847/966-1180 or [email protected]. There are options available. +Registration for the 2019-2020 RE Program has begun.
