Jesus Meant What He Said The crowd complained, “How can he give us his flesh to eat? This is madness! This teaching is too hard! Jesus must have meant something else.” These were the reasons which caused many to abandon Jesus 2,000 years ago, and these are the same reasons which cause many to leave the Catholic Church today (or at least not attend Mass). In other words people can’t understand how anyone could believe that the bread and wine we eat and drink, in reality is the body and blood of Christ. However, in the Gospel of John, the words of Jesus are too literal and clear for anyone to claim that the Eucharist is a mere symbol, something spiritual, or some other false interpretation. How do we know this? Throughout the Scriptures, whenever anyone misunderstood Jesus’ teaching, his method was to correct that misunderstanding. For example he did this with Nicodemus when Nicodemus thought that being, “born again” meant that he somehow had to reenter his moth-ers’ womb. When what Jesus said was correctly understood (despite some finding fault with it), he simply repeated it! In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus repeated what he said about his body and blood five times! Through repetition, Jesus explained the truth and importance about his body and blood, and this truth is central to our faith and church- namely Jesus is really and truly present in the bread we eat and the wine we drink. And he has assured us that unless you eat and drink it, you have no life in you. Isn’t this a good enough reason alone to come to church every Sun-day? God Loves You, Fr. Dunn

Update to Non – Obligatory Sunday Mass It is with great joy that Bishop Frank J. Caggiano would like to announce that our parishes will be able to resume public worship inside our church buildings. In those parishes that are ready to follow our established norms, the celebration of weekday Masses, Funeral Masses and Nuptial Weddings within our Churches may also resume.

The weekend Mass schedule is as follows: - Saturday Vigil @ 4:30pm

- Sunday @ 8am 10am & 12pm

Please let us know if you will be attending Mass by calling our Parish Office (203) 797-0222 or emailing us at [email protected]. This should be done on a weekly basis beginning every Monday. By signing up to attend the parish service, you recognize the obligation to (i) wear a mask or face covering when required; (ii) adhere to all required direction regarding social distance spacing when participating in the service and (iii) not attend service if you are sick, experiencing any symptoms consistent with the corona-virus, or are otherwise required to be quarantined.

Due to capacity limitations if you are unable or prefer not to attend inside the church, you can listen to the Mass on radio station 102.3 in your car in the parking lot. Please see our website for all of the information, regarding these guidelines at: https://stgregdanbury.org/covid-19-response

Saturday 4:30 Mass will continue to be livestreamed on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stgregsdanbury/) and website (https://stgregdanbury.org/covid-19-response):

CELL PHONES AND PAGERS In order to maintain a prayerful

atmosphere all are kindly requested to turn off cell phones and pagers before

entering the Church for liturgies and/or services. If you are on emergency call,

please put phone on vibrator status. Thank you

Summer is Here and casual summer dress is the norm, but please remember that there is a proper

manner in which we dress to come to Church. Be comfortable, but please be respectful as well.

Consecration to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart

On Saturday June 20th during the 4:30 Vigil Mass, we will be consecrating our Parish to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This will take place after the Homily and in front

of our new paintings of the Sacred and Immaculate Heart (hung over the candle racks). May this encourage devotion and bring honor to Jesus and Mary, as well as keep our parish under their

protection and guidance. A special thanks to Tony Scalzo, who donated the paintings in memory of his mother, Rose Scalzo. This Mass will be live streamed as well.

TABERNACLE OR STATUE CANDLE FOR LOVED ONES

New to our Church beginning with the new year, is the opportunity to remember and honor a loved one, by sponsoring the lighting/burning of our Tabernacle Can-dle. The cost is $20 for the candle that lasts 7 days and will begin and end on a Saturday. The name of your loved one and family will appear as follows in the bulletin: The Tabernacle candle burning in the Sanctuary of our Church this week is in memory of (name), as requested by (individual or family name). OR we will place a candle stand and candle next to our statue of St. Gregory or the Statue of Mary the Mysti-cal Rose, asking for St. Gregory’s or Mary’s special intercession and graces for a loved one. The cost is $20. You pick the date you want the candle to be lit and which statue, and it will be placed there and burn-ing for 7 days. This will also appear in the bulletin as follows: The candle next to (St. Gregory the Great or Mary the Mystical Rose) beginning on (date), is in memory of (name), as requested by (individual or family name). If you are interested in remembering and honoring a loved one in either way, please contact the office at [email protected] or calling the office at (203) 797-0222. *Also, due to the fact that donations aren’t covering the cost of the votive candles on our candle racks, we will be increasing the donation amounts to $2 for the small votives, and $5 for the large votives.

Adoration at St. Gregory the Great! Our weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on

Wednesdays from 8:30 till 12:30 has been going very well! Prayer is what supports and blesses the work we do at St. Gregory. Without regular and devout

prayer, a Parish will truly suffer. I’m looking to increase the length of Adoration to either 2:30 or

3:30 PM. If you have any interest in coming to pray at our Church in the presence of our Lord, for either a

half or full hour, anywhere from 12:30 to 3:30, we can use your help and prayer! If you can commit to this every Wednesday, please call Patty Barrows at

(203) 746-3232 or email her at [email protected]. I encourage you to

help bring blessings to both our Parish and your per-sonal life. Thank you ahead of time for your interest

and prayers!

St. Gregory’s Intercessory Prayer Group

Pastor’s Wish List

Thank you so much for your past generosity and support in regard to my

“Pastor’s Wish List! During this time of sheltering and the live-streaming of Masses only, we have taken advantage of our empty church to make many improvements. The entire interior of the church has been repainted. Also, through your continued

generosity we received donations for beautiful paintings of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary over our candle racks, a new podium for our cantors, and a mural of the

Last Supper on the front of our altar. Recently we just secured a donor for the refurbishing of our pews, which should be completed before we return for indoor masses. The final interior project which needs attention is

the refurbishing of our kneelers. The cost of this is $7,500. If you are able and would like to make a partial or full donation towards this project, please email ([email protected]) or call me at (203) 797-0222. I greatly appreciate your help and support. I look forward to returning to our now beautiful church in the near future!

Thank you and God Bless You!

The Seventeenth week’s winner of our 50/50 raffle is

Tim Kennen!

Thank you to all who have contributed to the success of our Food Drive. ! We will be accepting food through the end of June.
