It is also the feast day of St. Charles Borromeo, who is one of the shining lights who came out of the Catholic Reformation (and patron of our diocesan undergraduate seminary). He fought bravely for the reform of the Catholic Church and helped establish seminaries that would properly educate future priests. St. Charles was a leader behind the Council of Trent and assisted in the creation of the first universal Catechism of the Catholic Church. What motivated him to be so bold in purifying the Church was a devout prayer life in the Eucharist coupled with a charitable heart, always striving to practice what he preached. He wrote: “I admit that we are all weak but if we want help, the Lord God has given us the means to find it easily. Would you like me to teach you how to grow from virtue to virtue and how, if you are already recollected at prayer, you can be even more attentive next time-and so give God more pleasing worship? Listen, and I will tell you. If a tiny spark of God’s love already burns within you, do not expose it to the wind, for it may get blown out. Keep the stove tightly shut so that it will not lose its heat and grow cold. In other words, avoid distractions as well as you can. Stay quiet with God.” Please let His Divine spark grow within you by joining in our Closing Vespers, this Sunday, at 6:30 p.m. He so loves you! Some Updates: It’s still not too late for you to come to our annual school fund raiser, Night at the Races, this Saturday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m. The proceeds will help support our new PA system for further safety protocol for our school children. You may have noticed another project we had to undertake this past week for an increase in parking safety. We extended our parking lot to help with the traffic pattern for our school drop-off and pickup. The two lanes will allow for the extended traffic to not be a hindrance with the traffic flow on State Road. In addition, we will gain three extra rows of parking. (All you 11:00 a.m. Mass drivers can start rejoicing now!) You may have noticed that a small clearing was made in the wooded area along the gate on Diederich Lane. Since we have been in dire need of storage space, we will be building a pole barn to help. Verso, l’alto! Fr. Bline James Tissot (French, 1886-94). WOMEN OF FAITHSaints? Who are they really? How can we know them so we can eventually love them? They are invisible. How can we “see” them? What do they have to do with us today? True friendship is an incredibly valuable gift. Come explore how we become true friends with the Saints on Friday, November 9th following the 6:30 evening Mass in the Mobile Unit.Save the Date! Saturday, December 1st is our annual Women’s Day of Reflection. The theme is “Theotokos, God Bearer.” Look for more details and registration in future bulletins.

REST IN PEACEPlease remember in your prayers the souls of Margaret Davison, aunt of Carol Edmunds and Linda Berger. Also, Howard Stroker, uncle of Judy Rozewicz. May perpetual light shine upon them.

REMEMBER TO VOTE (TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6)Jesus calls us to be leaven and light in the world. With our representative democracy, our vote matters. They matter especially in mid-term elections because turnout is so low that each vote matters all the more. The social teaching of the Catholic Church posits that all social issues should be dealt with at its most local level possible (called: subsidiarity). And, these elections are our chance to contribute to shaping the political landscape in our city, state, and nation. Voting from a conscience, shaped by sound reason, and transformed by faith is of great importance. Please vote this November 6th. If you’re looking for a good read on our involvement in politics, I would suggest Red, White, Blue and Catholic by Stephen White. See you at the polls!“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all” – (Mark 9:35)

I want to take a moment to thank Mrs. Rozewicz for her hard work so far this year! She has been working with teachers in all grade levels to provide Religious supplemental resources, videos, and prayers that enhance their Religious education experience and their overall school day. Mrs. Rozewicz has also been providing students with information each day over the announcements about the Saints. She has provided St. Michael the Archangel prayer cards for our K-4 students, and new students in grades 5-8, so that they can learn the prayer we say after each school Mass. We encourage families to practice and pray this prayer at home as a family, as well. Finally, she has been working this year with our faculty and staff to implement year two of our Catholic Identity Goals where students focus on gifts of the Holy Spirit, Virtues and Beatitudes. Most recently, she and Ms. Hancock presented to our staff many items they can work on with their students to become more familiar with the Beatitudes and how to live them out on a daily basis. Much of the work with students will be their own personal self-driven learning and creativity with regard to how they view the Beatitudes in their own lives. I am so appreciative of Mrs. Rozewicz, and our whole staff at SFdS who make our Catholic faith the center of each day as well as highlight what a special gift it is to be a part of this faith community.

ALL SOULS: BOOK OF THE NAMES OF THE DECEASEDThe Church has a long tradition of remembering those who have died, and we do this in a special way on the Feast of All Souls Day, November 2nd, and

throughout the month of November. In many churches around the world, there is a Book of the Names of the Dead as a continuing reminder of our prayer. We offer this Book of the Names of the Dead in the Church narthex, so that we might be in solidarity in prayer for our loved ones. We invite you to enter the names of your deceased loved ones who have died since November 2, 2017.

OUR PARISH MISSIONDon’t forget to reserve the evenings of November 18th, 19th and 20th (7:00 p.m.) for our Parish Mission as we welcome Father Emmanuel Mansford, a Franciscan Friar from Harlem. Father Mansford was born in

London, England. He served as a missionary with NET Ministries from 1995-1998 and joined the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in September 1998. He was ordained in 2007 and spent seven years in the friars’ mission in England. He has been serving as the Vocational Director for the Community since 2014. Let’s celebrate the devout love we share in Jesus and the gift of our parish by faithfully filling the pews all three evenings!

AND THE WINNER IS…Congratulations to Jeff Koncz (table #1) for being the Chili Cook-off Master! Thank you to all those who participated: Carol Alchier, Jacqui Clark, Mark Hinkle, Mary Huggins, Linda Maloney, Daryl Quentin, Jessica Quentin, Amanda Russell, Stephen Stone, Jean Theiss, and Annie Walter. Also, thank you to those who came out to support the event and those who volunteered to help. We were able to donate $200.00 to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of our Parish who will purchase Acme Scrip cards for distribution to their clients, as needed.

THANK YOU FOR HELPING SAVE LIVESWe would like to thank all the wonderful people who donated their time and their life-saving blood for the many sick people in need. We collected 46 pints of blood which helped us reach our goal. God bless you all! We hope to see you again on January 21st at our next Blood Drive. Again…thank you.

VOCATION CRUCIFIXThe parish can always use more volunteers to receive the Vocation Crucifix. Vocation prayers are always needed and appreciated! Please call the parish office at 330-644-2225 to have your name added to the list. Brooke and Andy Schon and their family received the Vocation Crucifix this weekend.

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 4, 2018

LIFT UP YOUR HEARTTHE NINTH MEDITATION – CHOICE OF HEAVENA subtitle for this meditation might be, “Heaven Versus Hell, a Sales Pitch for Heaven.” St. Francis points to a powerful plea from all of Heaven who lovingly call us home. The purpose of this and the 10th Meditation is to help us make that choice (120). In this meditation, we compare the stark differences between Heaven and Hell. In the next meditation we look at the influence of the world in making this choice.

We have used our imaginations in an attempt to qualify the extremes of two eternal realities, Heaven and Hell. St. Francis’ intention is similar to Mother Angelica’s quotation, “l intend to scare the hell out of you!” The truth of the matter is that we are, likewise, called to be drawn to the beauty of love. God longs for you (123). We are called now, based on these extremes, to make a choice by the commitment of our lives.

Meditation Highlights:• Each member of the church on earth benefits from the prayerful and spiritual assistance of those in Heaven

because of the shared longing for eternal communion. (CCC 334) (119)• We have mentally considered the torments of Hell and the incredible beauty and love in Heaven. (120)• Based on our consideration of each of eight meditations we will end up choosing one. (120)• The choice you make here, in time, determines your ultimate goal in life and this choice, when achieved, will

stretch out into all eternity. (121)• Suddenly, it strikes at your core: you matter! God longs for you. (123)• You are a jewel of God’s creation, made to shine uniquely with the glory of God. (124)• This choice is not a simple nod of the head, but a decision proven by our actions.

FOCUS: You are called to Heaven by a loving God

Possible Ninth Meditation discussion questions:• How successful have you been at focusing on a singular thought from these meditations during the work

day? Have you found a “trigger” (i.e. every time I touch my keys) to initiate that thought?• What makes the decision between Heaven and Hell more than just the obvious?• Which of the following excuses could most likely cause conflict in the decision.

· My present lifestyle is acceptable.· Social pressure.· My sin· Hell is not real.· If God is a loving God then He would never condemn me to hell.
