¿No te suena familiar?
¿PODEMOS?
Nos vemos allí,
Deacon Joe
First Sunday of Lent March 1st, 2020
[ 3 ] SAINT CLARE of ASSISI PARISH
Welcome to Lent to the glory of God through His Son
We are leaving ordinary time in the Church in green colors and now we immerse ourselves into Lent to the violet or purple colors. This is a beautiful time in the church as we celebrate his death and resurrection. Yes, it is a celebration!
In The first reading from the book of Genesis “The LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and so man became a living being. Then the LORD God, planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and placed there the man whom he had formed. Out of the ground the LORD God made various trees grow that were delightful to look at and good for food, with the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
From the evil we see that the devil appeared to Jesus at his weak moment from his being hungry and creating the universe and tempting him three times. Doesn’t this sound familiar? When we are weak he does his best work. It is by the constant faith and prayer that we over come evil.
He made ALL things good that means he made us GOOD. If we remember by the good he placed in us he also placed in us his own Spirit, which is Love. How can we fortify his Spirit and love within us? Our church offers a few opportunities to build our spirituality during this Lenten season.
• Adoration and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Fridays from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Quiet time spent with the Blessed Sacrament and a time to just sit without all the distraction and just pray and listen.
• Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 7:00 pm in Swedesboro. On March 6th and April 3rd at 6:30 pm. A time to come together and walk Jesus’ steps to Calvary. It only takes an hour, come to stations, then go get something to eat at our Fish Fry on March 27th. The lines will be shorter.
• An evening of reflection on March 28 where we will listen to reflections for scripture readings and a prayerful time before the Blessed Sacrament.
• Outdoor stations of the cross of Good Friday starting at 1:00 pm in Swedesboro.
I remember lent when I was a young child where the church was packed on these occasions. Can we pack the church again in 2020? I say YES WE CAN!!. CAN WE?
See you there,
Deacon Joe

Stewardship Service
“It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” Matthew 4:10
Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His
Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, as Christian Stewards, must decide to turn away from worldly power and riches and put God at the center of our lives. Lent is our time to prune ourselves of
earthly things. Ask God how he is calling you to serve
2020 APPEAL: “WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR?”
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest
commandment. And, the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two
commandments.”
These words of Jesus remind us to love and support our neigh-bors in their time of need. Through the House of Charity Bish-
op’s Annual Appeal, we strive to do that throughout the six counties of the Diocese of Camden.
Your generosity provides services through Catholic Charities offices in each county of South Jersey. In addition, Home and Parish Healthcare Services of the Diocese of Camden brings new life and spirit into the hearts of those we cherish the most – our elderly and disabled, along with their fami-lies and caregivers. Together, we offer support to the weak, vulnerable, and disenfranchised.
Now we invite all parishioners to participate in this important effort. During House of
Charity Appeal Weekend, please make your sacrificial gift to help continue the mission of the Church here in the Diocese of Camden!
Our House of Charity 2020 Campaign has started,

Camden!

Community Connections
Loving someone struggling with
addiction can be very difficult,
painful, and chaotic. A community support group can
help by offering peer support for anyone affected by
drug addiction – individuals and/or family members.
Join us on Saturday mornings at 9:30am at The Church
of Incarnation, 240 Main Street, Mantua, NJ. All
are welcome to attend. For more information, call Bill
Dougherty 609-617-9959.
Our Bereavement Ministry gives support to
families who are going through the lost of a love
one, assisting families with the preparation for
funeral liturgies.
Our ministers offer the opportunity to follow up
during the first year after a death, including the
annual November Mass of Remembrance.
Given the number of funerals celebrated
annually in the parish, we would like to increase
our number of ministers , so that each minister
or ministry team would normally only meet with
one family per month.
Training is offered by the parish, and by the
diocesan Family Life Office. Our current
bereavement ministers can serve as mentors for
those who wish to serve. Some of our
bereavement ministers serve individually;
others as teams. If you are interested in
volunteering , please contact Gina Stebbins at

St. Clare Triduum Choir
Would you like to sing for Triduum ?
We are calling all our parishioners
to participate in Triduum Choir!
This is a great opportunity to
volunteer Triduum is a word that we hear at this time of the Church year. It is the little - but tremendously important - season between Lent and Easter. It begins on Holy Thursday evening and ends on Easter Sunday.
Triduum is an opportunity here at Saint Clare for all of the diverse music ministries to gather as one for the very important celebrations of Triduum.
Beyond this, we would like to offer the opportunity for any parishioner who would like to sing for Triduum to participate in Triduum Choir.
* For those in confirmation preparation, or those who have service requirements to fulfill for school or other organizations, rehearsal time and ceremony time will pro-vide multiple hours toward those requirements.
* For those who like to sing but are unable to commit long-term to choir membership, this would be a short term commitment that could be one of your special gifts to God and the church for Lent.
* for those who would like to learn more about Catholic faith and practices, participation in Triduum Choir allows you to learn more about the meaning of the sacred celebrations on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
Rehearsals for Triduum Choir will be offered at 7 PM on Mondays in Church in Swedesboro beginning on March 2; and on Thursday evenings at 7 PM in church in Gibbstown
beginning on March 5.
The liturgies of Triduum all take place in Gibbstown. The final rehearsal will take place on Monday of holy week at 7 PM in Saint Michaels Church. For questions or more information, contact Steve Obarski 856-236-6918 ([email protected]).
