  • 580-St. Cecilia

My dear parishioners, Today we celebrate the Lords Day and the Solemnity of the Most Blessed Trinity. Each year on the Sunday following Pentecost we observe this theologi-cal feast which speaks to us about the mystery of our monotheistic faith God

is ONE but in THREE DIVINE PERSONS: FATHER, SON, and HOLY SPIRIT. God who is com-munity calls us into community with Him through the Church. The holy sacraments are the vehicles which lead us into this union. COMMUNITY is what really shinned forth last Sunday as so many gathered in church and later in Hayes Hall to celebrate the priestly ordination of Father Jakub and Father Lukasz. The outpouring of joy and kindness for the new priests was fantastic. This says a lot about the people of Saint Cecilia Parish and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. Our community of faith is the best in the diocese (of course I am prejudiced)! I am especially grateful to the Saint Monica Guild for their labor in making the reception so welcoming and delicious! Thank you, Ladies and God bless you!!! Most of all, THANK YOU my dear parishioners for being present for the first Mass, the reception which followed and for the generosity you have shown the newly ordained priests. It has been announced that Father Jakub has been assigned to Saint Christopher Parish in Parsippany and Father Lukasz to Our Lady of the Magnificant in Kinnelon. We wish them well in their assignment which begins on June 29th, the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul. It has also been announced that we too will receive one of the 14 newly ordained priests here in Rockaway to serve us at Saint Cecilia and Sacred Heart of Jesus. Father Mateusz Jasnowicz will also report to duty here on June 29th and we welcome him with joy! Father completed his seminary education at Mount Saint Mary University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I am happy that the Bishop has added him to our pastoral staff and I look forward to him assisting me and Father Marcin in our work. The priesthood continues to be celebrated this coming week with Bishop Serratelli presiding at the JUBILEE MASS on Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Cedar Knolls. This Mass and reception which follows honors priests celebrating significant anniversaries, I will be among them. For this reason I have CANCELLED THE NOON MASS AT SACRED HEART CHURCH ON TUESDAY, JUNE 2nd. Work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at Saint Cecilias with the installation of a new security system for the church, parish office and rectory. Also upgrading will be done at the school and gym. This work will help keep our people and facilities safe in our ever-changing world. The job includes the installation of cameras, intercoms, security locks and moni-tors. In closing, next Sunday we celebrate CORPUS CHRISTI. An outdoor procession with the Most Blessed Sacrament will take place following the 12:15 Mass at Saint Cecilia Church. This is a combined parish event for both Sacred Heart and Saint Cecilia Parishes. I invite both parishioners to join me and Father Marcin in this annual outdoor Catholic demonstration of our faith in the Lord Jesus truly present in the Holy Eucharist. I need altar servers, children strewing flowers, children who made their FIRST HOLY COMMUNION this year in their communion attire, choir members, and most of all YOU! God bless you! Father Zig

STS. CHARLES LAWANGA AND COMPANIONS, Martyrs June 3Protomoartyrs of Equatorial Africa

King Mtesa of Uganda, in Equatorial Africa, had allowed the White Fathers to preach the Faith to this country with some good results. However, when his successor, King Mwanga, assumed power in 1885, he initiated a fierce persecution again all those who pray, that is, all Catholics Among the victims of this persecution were the elite of the Ugandan youthCharles Lwanga, the chief of the royal pages, and twenty-one of his companions. As their leader, Charles exhorted them by his words and left them an example by his deathsince he was the first to be burned alive. Twelve others followed him on that same day, June 3, 1886; the rest were killed between May 26, 1886 and Janu-ary 27 1887. These martyrs of Christ were beatified in 1920 and canonized in 1964 by Paul VI who declared: these African martyrs inaugurate a new age . Africa is rising free and redeemed, bathed in their blood. Christianity was found a ready hearing in Africa, and we see this as a mysterious plan of God, a vacation proper to Africa, and a promised of historical significance. Africa is the new country of Christ. A clear witness of this fact is the direct simplicity and unshakable fidelity of these young African Christians. PRAYER: God, You made the blood of martyrs become the seed of Christians. May the field of Your Church, irrigated by the blood of St. Charles and his Companions, always produce rich harvests. Amen Taken from, Lives of the Saints, Catholic Booking Publishing Company, 1999 New Jersey
