We walk by faith, not by sight! St. Paul's words in today's reading exhort us to remember our ultimate destination and to live with constant desire for the Kingdom of Heaven. Although our eyes allow us to enjoy the beauty of God's earthly creation, we can only know Heaven by faith. Jesus' words in the Gospel point us to familiar, living things to help us understand that our world is but a glimpse of the reality of God's Kingdom. When we share God's love through service we are sowing seeds of faith that grow and enable others to find their way to God. May our lives of faith become the seeds that yield a bountiful harvest for the Lord.

PIES FOR PAPA - JUNE 21ST
Next week for Father’s Day:
Pies for Papa!

On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress replaced the British symbols of the Grand Union flag with a new design featuring 13 white stars in a circle on a field of blue and 13 red and white stripes – one for each state. The number of stars increased as the
new states entered the Union, but the number of stripes stopped at 15 and was later returned to 13. In June 1886, Bernard Cigrand made his first public proposal for the annual observance of the birth of the flag. Cigrand’s effort to ensure national observance of Flag Day finally came when President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation calling for an observance of the event on June 14, 1916. Flag Day became official August 1949, when President Harry Truman signed the legislation and proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day. In 1966, Congress requested that the President issue an annual proclamation designating the week of June 14th as National Flag Week. The President is requested to issue a yearly proclamation urging US residents to observe Flag Day as the anniversary of the adoption of our flag on June 14, 1777.
POPE FRANCIS BUILD The Catholic Diocese, in cooperation with Wichita Habitat for Humanity, will build two houses in honor of Pope Francis. The $100,000 needed for the project will be raised by individuals, families, parishes and organizations throughout the diocese. Two homes will be built, side by side, at 1802 and 1808 N Green St, in the boundaries of Holy Savior Parish. Construction of the Pope Francis Houses will begin with a ground breaking on August 27, 2015 with Bishop Carl A. Kemme.
There are 25 build days, from Sept. 16-Oct. 17.
St. Catherine of Siena parish will take two of those days. We will pay for the materials, provide workers, lunches and snacks. If you can help, email Clista in our Parish Office at [email protected].

"It is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land and would sleep and rise night and day and through it all the seed would sprout and grow, he knows not how." In today's parable about the kingdom of God, Jesus gives us the image of something that grows "of its own accord." Yes, the man does the initial planting of the seed, but the real miracle of the seed turning into a full-grown plant happens without the intervention of the farmer. God makes it happen.
So too, with the kingdom of God, we are called to participate to a certain extent, but also to allow God to work. We first do our part when we "scatter seed" of faith, by living out the baptism that made us children
of this glorious kingdom. But even as we make our daily choices to follow Christ and live as His children -- with all the actions, decision, and commitments that entails -- we still get to enjoy the miracle of sitting back and watching God's providence in action. Just think of the beauty of creation and the seasons. Think about the gift of a newborn baby in the arms of its parents. Think about the surprising situations that resolved themselves in our relationships, jobs, and families. Think of the encouraging stories of forgiveness, reconciliation, and conversion that we have heard or experienced firsthand. Think of the blessings that have somehow come out of the trials and tribulations of our lives. Think of all the sick, poor, and lonely who have been comforted by believers. Think of the moments of peace and insight that we have received in prayer. So it is that God makes our seeds "sprout and grow" when we sincerely take that first step of faith to enter His kingdom.
