Dear Parishioners,
The month of November is traditionally the month in which we remember our beloved dead in a special way. This is because the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) falls on November 2, the day after we celebrate All Saints. There are a number of ways that we can remember those who have gone before us in the faith.
We can say a prayer for the repose of their souls. We can offer an Our Father, Hail Mary or Glory Be for them. We can also pray: “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.”
Another way to remember the dead and to pray for them is to visit a cemetery. Our parish has Prince of Peace Cemetery and many of those who have gone before us in faith are buried there. It is a pious practice to visit the cemetery and to offer prayers for our loved ones.
Putting the names of our loved ones on the All Souls envelope is also a way to remember our dead. The envelopes are placed in a basket in front of the altar as a way of remembering them in prayer.
St. Augustine writes in his Confessions that as his mother was dying in Italy he and his brother promised to take her body back to their native North Africa for burial. She told them the following: “Lay this body anywhere, and do not let the care of it be a trouble to you at all. Only this I ask: that you will remember me at the Lord's altar, wherever you are.”
Let us remember our beloved dead at the Lord’s altar wherever we are.
God Bless,
Msgr. Martin

Ladies Society News…..
The Ladies Society wishes to thank everyone who
donated supplies, their baking skills, their time helping
with the baking and their time helping sell on Saturday. A
special thanks to those kind souls who put up and take
down our tent every year. Final results of the Sausage
Festival bake sale—we cleared over $4100 thanks to all of
the donations that we received of baking goods. Just a
small note — We will be baking again in March. If you
would like to donate for that sale, watch Winn-Dixie for
when they put their salted Winn-Dixie butter on sale. We
used 47 lbs. of butter for this last bake sale and Paulette
will take supplies anytime from now to then.
The next Ladies Society meeting is this Monday,
November 9th at 7:00 PM in the Parish Hall conference
room. All are invited to come and join us. Remember
many hands make light work.

St. Benedict School News….. Last Friday was the first ever gathering of all Baldwin County Catholic School Teachers. Educators from St. Benedict Catholic School, St. Patrick's in Robertsdale, Christ the King in Daphne, and Faustin Weber, the principal from the new St. Michael Catholic High School joined as a faith community for an in-service. The in-service began with Mass celebrated by Msgr. Martin and was proceeded by two breakout sessions and a luncheon at Wolf Bay Lodge. One of the sessions, led by Mr. Weber, covered St. Michael High School, its curriculum, focus, faith development, arts, sports, and tuition. The other, led by Dr. Amber Krempa, was concerning ADHD (attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). This new consortium of K-12 Catholic Educators in Baldwin County will allow a sharing of services and support that will add strength and dynamics to an already great education.
