From the Pastor’s Desk...

HAPPY EASTER! As we reach the eighth day of our 50

day celebration of the Resurrection these words come to

mind:

“We pray that the Church may constantly watch over

the unfolding of the mysteries of human salvation”

(Mass on St. Joseph’s Day, March 19)

“It is not that I have already taken hold of it or have

already attained perfect maturity, but I continue my

pursuit in hope that I may possess it, since I have indeed

been taken possession of by Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 3:12)

THANK YOU – to all those who contributed in so many

ways to our beautiful and spirit-filled celebrations during

the recent Paschal Triduum which is the source and summit

of our parish’s annual liturgical life. I am very grateful to

our clergy and religious, our staff, our liturgical ministers,

and our many volunteers who co-operated with the Holy

Spirit for the glory of God, the salvation of each of our

souls, and the building up of the Body of Christ among us.

ENCOUNTER – Pope Francis continually urges the

Faithful to “a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ,

or at least an openness to letting him encounter them”.

Underscored here is an important point about the dynamism

of an encounter. Christ is constantly reaching out to all

persons, but the event of an encounter happens when that

invitation is acknowledged and responded to by a human

being. There is a divine vulnerability to reaching out, an

eager waiting in hope of a response.

SPEAKING OF VULNERABILITY – Remembering that

our word wound derives from the Latin word vulnum, is

there any other annual celebration that presents us with God’s

vulnerability more than today, when Jesus says to Thomas

(and any of us who are having trouble believing the Good

News), “Probe my wounds”?

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY – Today we celebrate Divine

Mercy Sunday, the conclusion of the annual Divine Mercy

Novena that began on Good Friday. Eucharistic Exposition

in Chapel will begin at 1:00 PM and then at 3:00 PM we will

celebrate the Divine Mercy Devotion followed by

Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

FIRST ENCOUNTERS – Next weekend within Sunday

Masses we will begin this year’s celebration of our children’s

special encounter with the Eucharistic Jesus in their First

Holy Communions. One of the benefits of locating these first

encounters within our Sunday Masses is to invite us to a fresh

encounter with Jesus each week when we receive Him

sacramentally.

ANNUAL ENCOUNTER – I’m inviting all of our Adult

Parish Volunteers to our annual Volunteer Appreciation

Night in Griffin Hall on Saturday, May 5 from 6:00 to 8:30

PM. Please RSVP by calling or emailing the Parish Office

(610-933-3732 or [email protected]) by Friday, April

20.

POOR BOXES – For the month of April all funds received

through our parish Poor Boxes will be used to support our

Parish Feeding Team which provides a hot meal for 50

neighbors each Wednesday.

ANOINTING MASS – Our annual parish communal

celebration of the Sacrament of the Sick within Mass will

take place in Griffin Hall at 4:00 PM on Monday, April 30.

Dinner will follow Mass. If attending, please call the Parish

Office, 610-933-3732, by April 28.

Counting Our Blessings!

The Divine Mercy Message and Devotion The message of The Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us – all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.

The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC:

A - Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world.

B - Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us.

C - Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive.
