Dear Friends in Christ,
“We know that all things work for good for those who love God,
who are called according to his purpose.” (Rom. 8:28) Do you
really trust God? Do you really believe that God will provide all
that you need? Faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting
our trust in God, in everything we do, in good times and in bad,
means that God’s plan for our lives may be quite different than
what we planned. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust
in God, His plan is always better.
Special thanks to Ronda Mills and Ed Strode for their continued
leadership at our school’s weekly bingo. Last Saturday we had
another successful day as we banked $1.355.00. All of the pro-
ceeds of bingo go to the needs of our school and help keep tuition
low. Therefore, it is imperative that all school families volunteer to
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
help with bingo as they benefit from it the most! To volunteer a
Saturday or two, call Ronda, Ed, or the parish office.
I am in dialogue with Fr. Tobin, the director of the Dominican
Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus in Chicago and the substitute priest
here at St. Al’s Parish when I went home to Iowa about establish-
ing a satellite shrine of St. Jude here in our parish. We are not
100% sure of what this means yet or how it will take shape except
to say that we are hoping it will mean an annual visit of the relic
to St. Al’s. Since our statue is now a second-class relic of St. Jude
and there was an extremely positive response to the relic’s visit
during Lent it seems a step in the right direction. Presently I am
seeking the bishop’s permission to do this. Please pray, through
the intercession of St. Jude, that this project materializes.
Last Sunday those who attended the 8:00 Mass were introduced to
Fr. Michael De Temple, O.P. Fr. Michael is the new chaplain at
the Dominican Motherhouse taking Fr. Peter’s place – Fr. Peter
retired from that position in May. Fr. Michael will join me and Fr.
Peter in the Dominican Friar’s community on the Motherhouse
grounds. He comes to us from Ohio where he was the chaplain of
the Dominican Sisters of Peace. You will see more of Fr. Michael
as he makes himself at home in Springfield and joins me occa-
sionally at St. Al’s. Thank you for welcoming him to our commu-
nity.
Did you hear? Dan Blentlinger, a Deacon Candidate who spent his
first two years in Deacon Formation with us at St. Al’s Parish
where he is much loved, is returning to us to complete his for-
mation years. His internship will begin with the Sunday Masses
on August 15. I’m hoping that he will become active in the cat-
echesis and sacramental preparation of our students as well as
helping out with the liturgies of the parish. Welcome back Deacon
-Candidate Dan Blentlinger… Welcome home!
If time permits, be sure to join us on-line for daily Mass and Ro-
sary. Through the FaceBook platform we live stream daily Mass
at 8:00am. and the Rosary at 3:00pm. Each recording is available
after the broadcast times as a recorded video. Just go to our
parish’s page and navigate to “videos” to watch. If you are a
member on our page and are on-line just a few minutes to the
beginning of the live stream, you should get a notification pop-up
that the recording is beginning. Then you just have to click on the
notification and join us. What a great way to keep connected to
the parish and to make each day a holy offering to God. All are
welcome.
St. Aloysius intercede for us that we might find the courage to
care for others during our pandemic like you did during yours.
Be assured of my prayers for your and your family’s health… see
you on-line!

Over the last few weeks, we have been working to create a plan for the upcoming
school year to provide a safe school environment! With guidance from the Illinois
State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Education, our Re-Opening Task
Force is evaluating the best way to meet student needs as we resume in-person learn-
ing. Please know that our number one goal is to have students back in our building.
While I know there will be changes, it is my hope that at St. Al’s our changes will be
minimal in order to meet the needs of our students and families while operating with-
in the guidelines that will be put forth by the State. The first day of school is Monday,
August 17!
School Office Hours…The school office will be open on Wednesdays from
9:00am-noon. Mrs. Reavis and Mrs. Daniels can be reached at 544-4553 or by e-mail.
The parish office is open from 9:00am-noon Monday –Thursday.

Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time – July 26-The Kingdom of Heaven. Living in the kingdom of heaven can be
hard to fathom at times. It is a treasure, it is surprising, it is full
of good and bad alike. The Letter to the Romans reminds us
that for those who love God, all things work for good. It may
not happen tomorrow, or next week, but it will happen. All will
be well. While living in God’s kingdom now, what treasure(s)
do I seek? How will I share what I find? What in my storeroom
can I share with others?
The Protecting God’s Children class is now being offered
online. Visit dio.org for more information.
Please remember to visit our website www.saintaloysius.org
to watch our daily Masses (8:00am), rosary
(3:00pm) and weekend masses Saturday (4:30pm)
and Sunday (8:00am). Reception of Holy Com-
munion is offered on Saturday after 4:30pm mass
and Sunday after 8:00am mass.
Seeing
Sometimes the Bible can sound like nonsense.
Like in the Gospel – where Jesus says, “they look but do not see
and hear but do not listen or understand.” How is that even possi-
ble?
It’s not just possible. It’s commonplace. You and I do it all the
time. Here’s how it goes.
We look. We label. And…we’re done.
We don’t really see the person. Not after we label them.
It’s not just that we don’t stop for a closer look. We don’t even
slow down. With quick label, we’ve turned them into a thing.
Dropped them into a convenient box with everything else that
has the same label. And moved on.
The scary part? How often you and I do this. And how easily we
do it.
Whether we slap a positive label on them or a negative label real-
ly doesn’t matter. Because either one does the same thing.
When we label, it keeps us from seeing everything that’s really
going on with them. From ever understanding who they are. Or
why they do what they do.
Which means that we can never help them. We can never use the
gifts that God has given us to do any good for them. To make
any difference in their lives.
Even the thought to do that never occurs to us. Because to us,
they’re just another thing with a label.
Truth be told, getting past the labels and to the person?
It’s the only way that any soul is ever saved. It’s the only way
that any life is ever changed.
And it starts with seeing them not as a label, but as a person. As
someone.
Someone worthy of your time. Someone worthy of your sacri-
fice.
It starts with seeing them the same way that God
sees you.

Going to Mass. Please arrive tot church at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. Masks
are required if you wish to enter church. Hand sanitizers will be availa-
ble in the vestibule. The ushers will direct you to your seat. Every other
row of pews will be taped off and tape marks will be placed on the pews
for social distancing. Families living in the same house may sit together,
but otherwise you are asked to observe the markings. There will be no
missalettes (they have been taped off and there will be no bulletins( they
will be emailed on Fridays) You may bring your own missal but please take with you
when you leave. The collection basket will be placed in the middle of church for your do-
nation. You can still drop your envelopes off at the rectory mailbox or by mail. Following
social spacing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a
steady return to regularity. Bulletin are online only. Thank you for your cooperation.
Face Masks … A gentle reminder that we are still required to wear Face Masks (Phase
4) as we enter and exit the Church. And as always it is recommended to wear a mask dur-
ing your entire time in the church building for the safety of all.
Act of Spiritual Communion... A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori … My Jesus, I be-
lieve that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramen-
tal, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
We will continue to live stream Mass on Sunday, weekday Mass and the rosary. We will
also provide communion services after the weekend masses to those unable to go to Mass.
The Parish office is open 9:00-noon (Monday-Thursday) to the public. In the afternoons
we will be working on details (moving storerooms, files, archives of various sorts, etc.) at
the Rectory and on campus. Our weekly bulletin will be accessible through our parish
website. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish. You can also sign up
to receive Flocknotes. Instruction our on the website.
Thank you for your contributions that keep us current on bills, utilities, payroll, benefits,
and so much more. Whenever there is a challenge or a need, St. Aloysius always steps up.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
In your July envelopes you will find a yellow envelope for St. Aloysius School Tui-tion Assistance. These monies will go to help those families, who have been approved
through our FACTS Tuition Grant and Aid Assessment Program, qualify for financial as-
sistance to attend our school. We are deeply appreciative for your support of this special
envelope.
COVID-19 has hit the needs of the homeless on our streets greatly. The Social
Justice Committee/Street Ministry are trying to help the homeless with both breakfast and
lunch. We are in need of breakfast or granola bars, lunchbox size fruit cups and juice box-
es. Items can be dropped off at the weekend masses (there ill be a tub in the back of
church) or at the Parish office (Monday –Thursday 9:00-noon). Thank you for your love
and support of the homeless and their needs in our community.
If you know someone who may be interested in learning more about their faith invite them
to join RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and find out if it is for them. You
could accompany them (give them moral support) to the sessions as they explore our faith.
RCIA will begin in mid September 18. You can contact the parish office (544-4544)
to register or obtain more information. Now is the time to talk to that friend or family
member and invite them to RCIA. Your word or deed can make a difference!
