INTRODUCTION
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The GMDSS Distress Alarm Panel is used for remote initiation ofdistress alert transmissions and visible and audible indication ofincoming distress and urgency calls on VHF, MF/HF, and INMARSAT-C. Normally it is installed on the bridge at the conning position.
The Alarm Panel contains three main sections, intended for connectionto Programme 4000 VHF, Programme 4000 MF/HF equipment, andSAT-C INMARSAT SES equipment. All sections work independentlyand all control signals are galvanically isolated by opto-couplers.
Two SAT-C transceivers may be connected to the alarm panel. Thealarm panel will operate on one transceiver and in case of failure switchover to the other transceiver.
Each section includes a push button for distress alert initiation, and adistress annunciator for indication of distress alert transmission inprogress or distress or urgency calls received. Additionally there is anannunciator for indication of equipment type. This, and the back-lightof the corresponding distress button is switched on when theappropriate transceiver has been sensed by the alarm panel.
To protect against inadvertent activation the distress buttons areprotected by spring loaded transparent covers. A button must be keptpressed for 5 seconds before the distress alert is initiated, during whichtime the audible alarm is beeping and the distress annunciator isflashing.
The Alarm Panel is supplied from 24 V DC supply voltage (21.6V to31.2V). Two separate DC supply inputs are provided with full galvanicisolation. The inputs are reverse polarity protected. Change overbetween the DC supplies is done automatically.

TECHNICAL DATA
GENERAL
Illuminated red distress button with transparent cover for each section.
Distress annunciator for indication of distress alert transmission inprogress or distress or urgency calls received for each section.
Audible alarm for indication of distress alert transmission in progressor distress or urgency calls received.
Dimmer push button for controlling light intensity in all annunciatorsand back-light.
Reset push button for resetting the audio alarm.
Test push button for initiation of a test sequence.
All distress functions work fully independent of each other.
All control signals are galvanically isolated by opto-couplers.
The illumination of a distress button goes off if the connection to theassociated transceiver is broken. In addition an alarm sound is heardfor 15 seconds if the connection the the INMARSAT-C transceiver isbroken. Illumination of the SES distress button is delayed up to 20seconds after connection or switch-on of the transceiver.
Supply Voltage: 24 V DC (21.6 V to 31.2 V)
Current consumption: max .100 mA
Operating temperature range: -20 to +55 oC
Compass safe distance: Standard: 0.9 m. Steering: 0.6 m.

OPERATION
DISTRESS
Sending Distress Alert
Open the key cover and press the ‘DISTRESS’ push button for minimum5 seconds. The distress annunciator flashes and the buzzer soundsperiodically with a 1 second cycle.
When the distress alert transmission starts the distress annunciatorchanges to a constant light. This indication is also given if a distressalert is initiated from the transceiver.
When a distress acknowledgement has been received the distressannunciator and buzzer changes to a slow cycle - except SESequipement where the annunciator also changes to a slow cycle, butthe buzzer will be switched off. Furthermore the dimmer will be set tofull light intensity.
When the distress acknowledgement has been read out or the distressalert has been cancelled at the transceiver the call lamp and buzzerare switched off.
Reception of Distress or Urgency Calls
Reception of Distress or Urgency calls are indicated by a slowly flashingdistress annunciator and a periodic sound from the buzzer with a cycleof 2 seconds. Furthermore the dimmer will be set to full light intensity.

GENERAL
Test the Alarm PanelPressing the Test button while the panel is inactive will initiate a testsequence by illuminating all annunciators and the back-light at fullintensity and activate the buzzer for approximately 2.5 seconds beforereturning to normal operation.
Mute the alarm soundIf the buzzer is on, pressing the Mute button will mute the buzzer untilreactivated by a new event.
Adjust the light intensityThe dimmer button controls the intensity of the light from the distressbuttons, annunciators and the back-light in 4 levels. The light in distressbuttons and annunciators cannot be turned fully off.
