WHO ARE WE

SAIIE (Spanish American Institute of International

Education) is an educational institution located in Seville

(Spain). Founded in 1984, we are dedicated to international

education by providing the necessary tools to achieve the

academic goals, cultural immersion and social integration

necessary for the personal growth and development of our

students.

The city of Seville Has seen ancient cultures, and helped to write history through the ages. It´s people and the city have retained a unique character as a Spanish King once said: “No me ha dejado”, which means” it (Seville) has not abandoned me”, still rings true .

Affiliated since its creation to the UW-Platteville, SAIIE has an

extensive experience in International Education in which we

promote four key areas:

1) People We believe and are completely committed to the students in our care. Since the first student in 1984 to today we treat them like our own family. In choosing SAIIE, you choose a close tight knit family who will be there for a student, from the day the student arrives. As they say in Spain : “Estás en tu casa”. We have the oldest and most experienced on site staff/family in Seville, possibly Spain.

2) Academics: Liberal Arts Program, International Business Courses, Spanish Language Program

We have a wide range of classes (taught in English and Spanish) approved and accredited by the UW-Platteville. Tutorials and practical Spanish classes to enhance and improve language learning. Qualified teachers with extensive experience in international education with the appropriate certification to teach Spanish as a foreign language the E/LE.

Our independent installation has one of the largest computer labs in the city, and throughout the facility there is WIFI. All SAIIE students are issued international student cards which give them access to all University and public libraries/study rooms in and around Seville.

Understanding history through cultural visits to the monuments and sights of the city. There are also visits to exhibitions and shows: soccer games, bullfighting and Flamenco...

3) Cultural Immersion We believe it is essential to the students’ personal development. SAIIE offers students a possibility to see first hand cultures that shaped the world:

Ancient Culture (Phoenicians, Tartessians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans).

Medieval Cultures: Christianity, Judaism, The Visigoths and The Moors.

1492 Renaissance /Columbus , and Baroque.

4) Social integration

Knowledge of the local culture and interacting with natives is essential to the experience that is international education. SAIIE provides that through 3 important aspects of the program: home-stays in Spanish families, assignment of (intercambios) language exchange partners to promote integration, and voluntary service in different institutions.

ACADEMIC CREDIT Credits are certified by UW-Platteville and will be validated on an official UW-Platteville transcript at the end of the semester. Credits earned also become part of an official academic record at UW-Platteville.

While all credits should be transferable, please note that if you wish any of your courses to fulfill specific requirements for your major, your minor, or your general education, you must seek the necessary approval from the appropriate person(s) on campus.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

A student must have completed at least one full-time semester of college at the time of application.

A student must have at least sophomore standing at the time of participation. A student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average point of 2.5 on a 4.0 grading

scale. A student must be in good academic standing at the time of participation. No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.

Study abroad and play soccer

SAIIE has created a program which allows American college students (male and female) who love the sport of soccer and play back home at their Home-Universities to have an international academic/athletic/cultural experience while still earning academic credit.

SAIIE SPECIALISED PROGRAM

SPRING PROGRAM

Students on this program will study at SAIIE (credits are certified by UW-Platteville and will be validated on an official UW-Platteville transcript at the end of the semester), while the duration of the program they will be training with and playing friendly matches with local semi-professional Spanish soccer teams. This program not only gives the opportunity for American students to play on a Spanish team while abroad and improve their soccer skills but also is another source of cultural immersion. SAIIE students will be placed and dispersed among several soccer Spanish teams of the city allowing them to a total immersion into Spanish culture, as all trainings will be held in Spanish, their teammates will be Spanish and their coaches also.

Have a study abroad experience while playing your favorite sport, among Spaniards, in the home country of the current Euro and World Champions!

The program includes a complete cultural package.

Students will visit such beautiful and historical places as:

Cathedral of Seville, Alcazar (Royal Palace), Barrio de Santa Cruz (Old Jewish Quarter),Torre del Oro, etc…

Seville is a huge classroom outside classroom!

Students are placed in home-stays with Spanish families and assign (intercambios) language exchange partners to promote integration as part of SAIIE’s goal to provide a cultural/social integration for our students. Spanish is not a requirement for this program.

SUMMER PROGRAM

This program is run in partnership with the professional Spanish “La Liga” soccer team Sevilla Football Club (SFC). Students on this program will study at SAIIE (credits are certified by UW-Platteville and will be validated on an official UW-Platteville transcript at the end of the semester). While the duration of the program students will participate in a soccer camp organized by Sevilla FC. Students on this program will train weekly at the Sevilla FC training grounds facilities under the supervision and guidance of Sevilla FC coaches. The teams will be made up among all the participants and friendly matches against other Spanish clubs will be organized throughout the duration of the program.

Students will take one course (either a Spanish language course at the appropriate level or a course of Sociology taught in English).

SAIIE SPECIALISED PROGRAM

English language academy In September 2010 SAIIE began an innovative and practical language program, which is based on the

communicative learning method. We believe that learning is a natural process, to which we use a holistic approach. We have courses that cater to all types of learners, all ages and levels.

Over this last year as a language school and Cambridge ESOL exam preparation center, we have seen

our first student successes, in Cambridge exams. Our students have also given conferences in English,

attended Harvard Medical School and are completing their education in the States and the UK.

With our portfolio we are able to cater to businesses with specifically designed intensive courses and

also have a range of classes for individual learners. Group classes in house, private tuition and Skype

classes. We also have provided classes in local Sevillian schools.
