Shaam-e-Gazal

Shaam-e-ghazal (Shaam means 'evening' & ghazal means 'poetry' that is more specifically written to the beloved).

The origin of ghazals could be traced back to medieval Islamic era in Persia from the 12th century. It was socially unacceptable for a man to communi-cate to a woman in public, so they took a poetic route in submitting ghazals in public, that often had hidden and ambiguous meaning, meant for the beloved. Later the ghazals evolved to a structured form in terms of rhyme and verses. Today it is considered as music for the soul, in Middle-East and South-East Asian countries. Most of the poets come from rich 'Urdu' back ground, who embellish their poems in both subtle and sub-lime ways.

A professional 'ghazals ' team performed for IFRM along with Rtn. Vidyut Shenoy, Rtn. Anuradha and

attended by more than a 100 connoisseurs, including the DGN Rtn. Badri Prasad and PDG and IFMR World Chair Dr. Prithvi Raval. Another highlight of the day was the

who seemingly enjoyed the traditional flavour of the event.

Dear Rotary Leaders,

I am happy at the outcome of the “SAHASTHA” 34th Rotary District Conference. My thanks are due to all the Rotarians, Anns & Annets for having attended the district conference at innovative film city and make the conference a memorable one. I take this opportunity to thank Conference Chair Rtn. Raveen and all the members of various conference committee of the various conference committees for their selfless and tireless work. Sahastha signifies team work -greatness can be achieved by joining hands and we have shown the same.

The “Hridaya Raga” musical nite at palace grounds by Dr.Yesudas and others was a grand success. My thanks to all Rotarians for their support towards rising funds through this event for projects.

The polio immunization was carried out on 23.01.2011 & 27.02.2011. Record polio immunization was done on both the days and I am very happy to note that all Rotarians, Anns & Annets of all the Rotary Clubs & the District Polio team were totally involved in the programme and it was a great team effort.

The Rotary Club of Bangalore, Sadashivanagar has signed an MOU with Tata Projects Ltd., for the prestigious water project. This is a milestone event which should provide an impetus for other Rotary Clubs to follow.

Especially able sports event “AARAMBH” organized by a district Rotaractors deserves all the praise for the organizers for such a motivating event.

We had an interesting seminar on Micro Credit Finance along with FKCCI. The programme was a thought provoking one and the seminar exposed the areas and possibilities for Rotary Clubs to work in the field of micro finance for the economically weaker sections thereby “BUILDING COMMUNITIES”.

The last date for all the Rotary Clubs to provide complete information for RI President's citation is 31.03.2011. I request all the Rotary Clubs to ensure that the details are sent before the last date.

We have been working with great zeal on several projects. We have work together for DSG project. I request the clubs to come forward with their proposals & make full use of it.

SAHASTA 2 FEBRUARY

The “SAHASTHA” 34th Rotary District Conference was an excellent event and very well organized. The Anns, Annets enjoyed the conference especially lectures by Prema Panduranga, Jaya Row and the panel discussion. It was an event where the Anns could meet to exchange views & build friendship. The food was delicious & enjoyed by one and all. For me, this was a special occasion to freely interact with the Rotary Family.

The music at the Yesudas nite was melodious & I was taken back through the various songs to those respective films. It was very memorable & I cherish this event for a very long time to come. It was a unique experience.

I was particularly very happy to see Anns and Annets participating in such large numbers on both the national immunization days. What a selfless effort it is.

Chief guest Shri. Mani Shankar Aiyer's speech on the R.I. Theme “Building Communities and Bridging Continents” was very relevant and gave a new insight, not only to our R.I. Theme, but made 1.2 billion Indians to wear a Thinking cap. He said Localisation is more important than Globalisation. By localisation, he meant it is time to think of those unfortunate billions, who are at the bottom of the pyramid and how to make them CONNECT with those successful ones. He also said that it is time for India to know more about our

SAHASTH—o ur Rotary Dist. 3190 Conference inaugurated on 5th Feb, 2010, is an Event to remember, for a long time to come. This event did reflect in every manner, the wonderful leadership of our DG Rtn. Manandi Suresh, District Secretary Rtn. Suresh Bhat and the twin captaincy of Rtn. Raveen and Rtn. Deepak and of course many many others in the dist. Hearty congratulations to all of them and to the entire team, who made this conference A DREAM ACHIEVED.

Starting from the location : Innovative film city, Bidadi, Bangalore Dist. itself was a master stroke. The arrangements were simply immaculate, be it parking facilities, conference hall, the decor, the stalls and of course the highlight being the food.

The morning programme started with invocation by Anns of RC South. Homage was paid to departed souls. Conference Chairman Rtn. B.V. Raveen welcomed the gathering. DG was introduced through a nice power point presentation on the activities of the dist. embarked upon to address the theme “BUILDING COMMUNITIES & BRIDGING CONTINENTS”.After Governor's address, in which he attributed the success so far to the team work by JOINING HANDS, the address by R.I. President rep. Rtn. Thomas Thorfinnson about future of Rotary, was thought provoking and gave lot of FOOD FOR THOUGHT both to the Rotary Movement

Neonatal Intensive care for new born children who face problems at the time of birth is an important facility to reduce infant mortality rates. A state of the art NICU has been set up by Rotary Bangalore South and Rotary Bangalore Midtown at Rangadore Memorial Hospital. This facility was handover to the hospital by RI Vice President Thomas Thorfinnson on the 4th of Feb'2011, in the presence of DG Barbera Crozier of RI Dist. 5100 and Ms Agne Jankaustaite, TRF Coordinator. PRID M K Panduranga Setty and many PDG's from our Dist joined the event. This facility will help parents from economically weaker section to get the NICU support at a reasonable price.

The afternoon session after lunch started with Rotary Foundation Module. Ms. Agne Jankauskaite explained how Rotary Foundation works and gave details of how to go through matching grants projects. from RI Dist. 5100 was presented. The out-going teams to RI Dist 5080 & 5100 were also presented. PDG Rajendra Rai our representative to council on Legislation, was presented.

In the concluding session, DGN. Rtn. Badri Prasad was presented. This was followed by a grand presentation of DGE Panduranga Potnis by RCB South West. After his address, DGE Pandu introduced his core team to the audience.

Friendship exchange teams from USA & Pakistan were felicitated. After resolutions of the conference, R.I.P. representative Thomas Thorfinnson gave his concluding remarks and congratulated DG Suresh on a wonderful conference & termed it a festival.

After DGs address, Conference Secretary Rtn. Deepak proposed Vote of Thanks and the Conference ended with singing of National Anthem.

A Senior citizen meet was organized at RHOS. Total of 10 Blood donation camps were conducted and 749 units of blood was collected. RYLA for class 9 students of Sree Cauvery School was held. IFRM organized a sham-e-ghazal at Rotary Bangalore club and attended by GSE team. Vocational visit to Mahindra Reva factory.

Teacher orientation programme was held successful ly. Charter presentation of Rotary club of Mulbagal was held at Mulbagal. Library books worth Rs. 5,000/- were given to Amarjyothi School. Participated in the district Interact conference held at VVN School.

Donated sweets on Republic day to Eeranahalli Lower primary school.

Participated in the International Kite festival held at Palace Grounds. 2 eye camps were conducted.

A gathering of over 10,000 people, immaculate arrangements, attractive backdrop, scores of celebrities from Kannada filmworld and a good attendance of Rotarians, witnessed what could perhaps be termed the biggest gathering of people in Bangalore, under the Rotary banner.

Dr. KJ Yesudas was honoured for his 50 years in Kannada film world by RID and a concert on the occasion, with the participationj of celebrities including the illustrious Dr. Ilayaraja, the respected Dr. Hamsalekha, KSL Swamy, Cinestars Shivaram, Ambareesh, Jayanthi, Dwarakeesh, veteran singers Dr. PB Srinivas, P Susheela, B Sumitra, LR Eshwari, Archana Udupa, Manjula Gururaj, Vijay Yesudas, Vijay Prakash, Madhu Balakrishna, Dr. Pattanaik, Ambareesh's words 'Rotary has done what we in the film world should have done, Congrats!' echoed the deep impact the program made.

The Rotary name and logo shining brightly even after sunset, to the jam packed audience amidst some of the 'hit numbers' of Kannada film songs, made the event a memorable and unparalleled event of RID 3190. Further, the event televised on the popular 'Suvarna’

Channel for 5 ½ hours on Sunday, 16th March, was viewed by lakhs of people around the globe.

who helped, the event is bound to remain an event of pride for all Rotarians of 3190 for a long time to come.

Rotary Dist 3190, in association with Asso-ciation of Karnataka Microfinance Insti-tutions (AKMI) and Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI) organized an one-day seminar on 'Microfinance in Financial I n c l u s i o n : O p p o r t u n i t i e s a n d Challenges' and the seminar was held in Capitol Hotel, Bangalore on January 18, 2011.

organizations, technical service providers, financial service providing institutions such as insurance companies and pension providing institutions gathered from across the state.

The seminar was formally inaugurated with Mr Shankar M Bidari, IPS, ADGP & Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, as the Chief Guest and Dr Venkatesh Tagat,

CGM, NABARD; Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das, CEO, Ananya Finance for Financial Inclusion; Sri. N S Srinivas Murthy, President FKCCI as the Guests of Honor.

The Chief Guest for Valedictory was Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmastala.

Thanks to the efforts of Rtn. N S Srinivas Murthy, President FKCCI; Rtn. J.R. Bangera, Chairman and Rtn. K.S. Nagendra, Director, Vocational Service – the program was a success and brought in lot of PR & value to Rotary's work in this taskforce area.

SAHASTA 9 FEBRUARY

The Australia Day was held on 28th January 2011 at Hotel Chancery Pavilion. This District event was hosted by RCB Orchards along with Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Basaveswarnagar, North, Yelahanka & Ramanagaram clubs.

Mr. David Holly, the Consul General from Chennai was the Chief Guest for the program. The other Guests of Honour included Mr. Michael Carter, Australian Trade Commission from Chennai, Mr. Rod

Solomons, Trade Commissioner to South Asia, Govt. of Queensland & our DG, Mr Manandi Suresh.

More than 175 participants including 30 experts from Australia, rotarians from various clubs in the Dist.

participated in this program which was a grand success. The press and media also covered the event. The speakers gave an overview of the Trade between India & Austral ia , educat ion opportunities & green technologies, tourism videos portraying the rich culture & the scenic beauty of Australia.

Some of the highlights of the event included raising of funds through American Auction and selling of raffle tickets for a free hotel stay in Goa for the victims of the floods in Queensland. Thanks to Mr Geoffrey Conaghan, Commissioner, State Government of Victoria for donating Rs. 12,000 and wine bottles for the auction and Ms. Pratima Mulani who sponsored three paintings for this noble cause. The funds raised amounting to Rs 59,000 has been donated to the Queensland State Government Flood Relief Fund which is noteworthy.

The event would not have been a success but for the active participat ion of members of the lead club, & inter alia, Arun, Kiran Boal, K. Ravi, Mahua, Lakshmi Kamath & Prakash Hegde.

ROTARY AUSTRALIA DAY CELEBRATION 28th January 2011

Group Study Exchange team from RI District 5100 lead by Rtn. Ron visited our District for 21days from 21st Jan 2011. This time the duration of GSE team visit was for only 21 days. They were traditionally welcomed by District GSE Chair Rtn. Flt.Lt. K P Nagesh.

During this 3 weeks period, team visited Tumkur zone and Mandya zone apart from attending joint meetings organized by Rotary club of Bangalore, Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar , Rotary Bangalore North and Rotary Bangalore South wherein the team made a

Team also had rare opportunities like elephant ride, camel ride. Being a part of 60th Birthday of District Governor Rtn. M.N. Suresh and “A night out” at Bangalore by South West Rotarians.

Team visit to Karunashraya, Polio NID Participation, TTK Rotary Blood Bank, Sai Hospital, Robano Eye Hospital, visit to schools both in City and Rural area, etc., provided an insight into the vibrant Rotary activities of the District. Visit to I S KCON Temple, Ravishankar Ashram, Pyramid Va l l e y , L a l b a g h Flowershow, attending Republic Day Parade, v i s i t to Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore Tippu Sulthan and participation in Air Show, were quite appreciated by them.

Vocational visits to Infosys, Coca Cola Factory, Nike Show Room, Indian Institute of Science, University of Agricultural Science, Veterinary Institutions, Packing Industry, M.S Building, Radio Station, T.V Station, FKCCI and Candle manufacturing factory was educative one for the team members. Rotary District Conference provided a platform for the team to interact with Rotarians of RI Dist 3190. All the GSE members were conferred with Paul Harris Fellowship, thanks to RCB Sadashivanagar.

They came in hordes from every corner of the State, and even from neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Andhra P r a d e s h & M a h a r a s h t r a . Vijaykumari from Davangere and Keshavalu from Tirupati arrived on 3rd January morning hobbling on crutches. They soon walked confidently on their newly fitted callipers and artificial feet. Nagaraju from Gadag came crawling on twisted, malformed legs. He got his very own tricycle and rode away with head held high, his face glowing. Their heartening stories were repeated among over Two thousand three hundred differently abled persons at the 14th Free Jaipur Limb Camp organized by RCB Peenya and Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur from January 3rd to 9th 2011.

her new walker because she wants independence. Nagesh f rom Bhadravathi stands proud on his new leg, and says, “We want support and respect from society, not sympathy.”

For 24-year-old Rathnamma, after being at home for two years, this native of Hassan was finally mobile

when she received a new tricycle at the 14th mega J a ipu r Foo t c amp . Coming from a family of p o o r f a r m e r s , Rathnamma could not continue her education as her tricycle broke down. She somehow managed to complete a computer training course but her mobility was still very limited. With the help of the local church, she was brought to the camp.

"Three hundred people were screened last year for corrective surgery, 80 persons

were eligible to go under the knife. However, the surgery was performed on only 40 persons,” recalled PP Rtn Prakash Nagesh.

Ever since the LN-4 prosthetic hand was introduced at the 2008 camp, more than 100 who have lost their forearm have benefited from them. As many as 186 prosthetic hands have been made available by Ellen Meadows Prosthetic Hand

Rotary Bangalore Peenya

State level Inter Collegiate and School Sports competition under the leadership of New Gene-rations Service Dir., Rtn N. Balakrishna was held at Mayasandra from 6–8th Jan 2011. Program was inaugurated by Sri Cheluvarayaswamy, M.P. and Sri

Balagangadharanatha Swamiji. About 10,000 students from various rural schools participated in the program and many students won prizes. Rtn. Prabhudeva, President, Rotary South, DG Rtn. Manandi N. Suresh graced the occasion. The 3 days program was

jointly organized b y S r e e Ad i chunchanagir i Shikshana Trust.

Rotary sports meet

The second polioNID on 27.02.2011 went off with full swing by all Clubs in the District. All the publicity materials were distributed to clubs in advance.

Select city clubs and all rural clubs were given the Polio Kiosks for usage in bus stand /railways stations/prominent junctions.

As in the past, from the DPPC, we had formed teams for the visits to the clubs in the district.

City team comprised with DG Rtn. MN Suresh, Rtn. Ramesh Babu , DPPC Chairman, Dist. Secy Rtn. Suresh Bhat, PDGs – Rtn. UB Bhat, Rtn. Rajendra Rai, DPPC members and Rotarians in all about 12 members.

Tumkur Zone was covered by our DPPC members – Rtn. Prasad Sundaram, Rtn. Manohar Menda. They were joined by the Rotarians at the Zones.

Mandya Zone was covered by DPPC members Rtn. Manivannan and Rtn. Vishwanath. They were joined by the Rotarians at the Zones.

In the City rounds, NID program started off gracefully with Inauguration at 8.00 am at the Railway Station by the Dist. Governor. Dr. Subramanya, SMO, WHO and other Rotarians were present. RC Kumarapark had made all the arrangements.

Main Bus Stand and Rotary Club of S a d a s h i v n a g a r h a d m a d e t h e arrangements.

Next, the team visited Mantri Mall, PHCs supported by the Rotary Clubs of Midtown, Vijayanagar, West, Junction, Udyog, Peenya, Innerwheel-Udyog, Sahakarnagar, Yalahanka and North.

Earlier Dist. Governor M N Suresh, Dr. Subramanya, SMO, WHO and Dr. Sudarshan, BBMP participated in the AIR program LUNCH BOX on 24 Apr. giving and sharing many details on the polio program to the listeners.

As a part of awareness program, on 26.03.2011 a Rally was conducted by the Rotary Club of Hanumanthnagar.

In the BBMP area 6,50,592 children were immunized (99.92%) on 27 Apr.

It was a very satisfactory day for the team from RI Dist. 3190.

Shaam-e-Gazal

Shaam-e-ghazal (Shaam means 'evening' & ghazal means 'poetry' that is more specifically written to the beloved).

The origin of ghazals could be traced back to medieval Islamic era in Persia from the 12th century. It was socially unacceptable for a man to communi-cate to a woman in public, so they took a poetic route in submitting ghazals in public, that often had hidden and ambiguous meaning, meant for the beloved. Later the ghazals evolved to a structured form in terms of rhyme and verses. Today it is considered as music for the soul, in Middle-East and South-East Asian countries. Most of the poets come from rich 'Urdu' back ground, who embellish their poems in both subtle and sub-lime ways.

A professional 'ghazals ' team performed for IFRM along with Rtn. Vidyut Shenoy, Rtn. Anuradha and

attended by more than a 100 connoisseurs, including the DGN Rtn. Badri Prasad and PDG and IFMR World Chair Dr. Prithvi Raval. Another highlight of the day was the

who seemingly enjoyed the traditional flavour of the event.

Dear Rotary Leaders,

I am happy at the outcome of the “SAHASTHA” 34th Rotary District Conference. My thanks are due to all the Rotarians, Anns & Annets for having attended the district conference at innovative film city and make the conference a memorable one. I take this opportunity to thank Conference Chair Rtn. Raveen and all the members of various conference committee of the various conference committees for their selfless and tireless work. Sahastha signifies team work -greatness can be achieved by joining hands and we have shown the same.

The “Hridaya Raga” musical nite at palace grounds by Dr.Yesudas and others was a grand success. My thanks to all Rotarians for their support towards rising funds through this event for projects.

The polio immunization was carried out on 23.01.2011 & 27.02.2011. Record polio immunization was done on both the days and I am very happy to note that all Rotarians, Anns & Annets of all the Rotary Clubs & the District Polio team were totally involved in the programme and it was a great team effort.

The Rotary Club of Bangalore, Sadashivanagar has signed an MOU with Tata Projects Ltd., for the prestigious water project. This is a milestone event which should provide an impetus for other Rotary Clubs to follow.

Especially able sports event “AARAMBH” organized by a district Rotaractors deserves all the praise for the organizers for such a motivating event.

We had an interesting seminar on Micro Credit Finance along with FKCCI. The programme was a thought provoking one and the seminar exposed the areas and possibilities for Rotary Clubs to work in the field of micro finance for the economically weaker sections thereby “BUILDING COMMUNITIES”.

The last date for all the Rotary Clubs to provide complete information for RI President's citation is 31.03.2011. I request all the Rotary Clubs to ensure that the details are sent before the last date.

We have been working with great zeal on several projects. We have work together for DSG project. I request the clubs to come forward with their proposals & make full use of it.
