MICHIGANSTATEUNIVERSITYEXTENSIONMichiganSeaGrant,acooperativeprogramofMichiganStateUniversityandtheUniversityofMichigan,helpstofostereconomicgrowthandconserveMichigan’scoastalandGreatLakesresourcesthrougheducation,research,andoutreach.SeaGrantExtensioneducatorsareinvolvedinplanning,organizing,andimplementinguniversity-basededucationalprogramsthatapplyknowledgeandunderstandinggainedthroughresearch.ExtensioneducatorssupportGreatLakesstakeholderswithinformationandtoolstomakeinformeddecisionstoconserveMichigan’scoastalandGreatLakesresourcesandenhancecoastalcommunities.SeaGrantExtensioneducatorsserveavarietyofstakeholdergroups,butnosingleeducatorcanbeanexpertinallareasofconcerntoallpotentialstakeholders.Therefore,educatorsarepartofacollaborativeteamwithinMichiganSeaGrantandMichiganStateUniversity(MSU)Extension,specializinginparticularareasofconcernintheirdistricts;andsharingtheirknowledgeandskillswithcolleaguesinotherpartsofthestate,GreatLakesregionandnation.ThepersoninthispositionwillworkcollaborativelywiththeteamofSeaGrantandMSUExtensionoutreachprofessionalstoprovideoverallleadershipfortheSaginawBayregion.Thispersonwillcollaboratewithotherpartnerstosupportactivitiesrelatedtotheconservationoffreshwaterwetlands,waterquality,fish,andwildlifehabitatwithinSaginawBay,LakeHuron,andtheGreatLakesEcosystem.Also,theeducatorwillengageinappliedresearchandSeaGrantExtensionactivitiesthatcontributetothesustainabilityofGreatLakeswaterquality,fisheries,waterfowlpopulations,andcoastalcommunityresiliency.SPECIFICRESPONSIBILITIES:SaginawBay(LakeHuron)containsAmerica’slargestcontiguousfreshwatercoastalecosystem,supportingfisheries,migratingwaterfowl,andcoastalcommunities.IntenseuseoftheSaginawBayWatershed,thelargestinMichigan,hasresultedinbeneficialuseimpairmentsoftheSaginawRiverandSaginawBayinLakeHuron.Theindividualselectedforthispositionwillworkwithlocalstakeholders,SeaGrantcolleagues,andotherExtensionteammemberstoidentifykeyissuesanddevelopeducationalandoutreachprogrammingthataddresswaterquality,wetlands,fishandwildlifehabitatswithintheSaginawBayregion.TheeducatorwillalsodevelopperformancemeasurestoevaluatetheeffectivenessofSeaGrantExtensionprogrammingincollaborationwiththeSeaGrantExtensionProgramCoordinator.

• Thepositionwillberesponsibleforenhancingthestewardshipoffreshwatercoastalwetlands,waterquality,fishandwildlifehabitatwithinSaginawBay,LakeHuron,andtheGreatLakesEcosystem.Programmingmayfocusontheland-waterinterface,coastalwetlands,andnearshoreecosystem.TheindividualwillidentifyinformationalgapsandworkwithstakeholdersandnaturalresourcesagenciestodevelopeducationandoutreachprogrammingtoaddressimportantissuesrelatedtotheconservationoftheSaginawBay,LakeHuron,andtheGreatLakesEcosystem.
• Thispositionwillworkwithcoastalcommunitiesandotherinterestedstakeholdersoncommunityplanningandcoastalcommunitydevelopmenttopromotebestpracticesforresourcemanagementthatconservewaterquality,fish,wildlife,andnearshorehabitatsandpromotevibrantcoastaleconomies.
• Theeducatorwillberesponsibleforworkingwithnaturalresourcesagencies,stakeholderorganizations,andcoastalcommunities,includingtheirresidents,leaders,andvolunteers,inidentifyingproblemareasandopportunitieswhereeducationalprogramsmaypositivelyimpactwaterquality,fish,wildlife,andnearshorehabitats.
• Thiseducatorwillbuildandmaintainanetworkofcontactswithothergroupsinterestedinnaturalresourceissuesrelatedtoland-waterinteractions,andtofacilitatebettercommunicationandinteractionsbetweenstakeholdersandappropriatenaturalresourcesmanagementagencies.TheSeaGranteducatormusthavetheabilitytoworkwithavarietyofstakeholdergroupsthatoftenhavecompetingvisionsforSaginawBay,LakeHuron,andtheGreatLakesecosystemandhelptofacilitatetheinteractionsofthesediversestakeholdersforthecommongoodofsocietyandtheresource.Thisindividualwillalsobeexpectedtoworkcollaborativelywithcommunity-basedorganizationsandutilizetheskillsandabilitiesofcommunityvolunteersandstakeholderstoobtainlocalresourcesthatsupplementSeaGrant/MSUExtensioneffortsandextendandexpandprogrammingsupport.
• Serveasaninformationresourcetoclientele,partnersandExtensionstaff;• CreateandpromotepositivepublicrelationsforMSUExtension,theGreening
MichiganInstituteandtheMichiganSeaGrantProgram.• Author,produceandsubmitregularresearch-basededucationalarticles.• Developandutilizeappropriatemediamethodstocommunicatecurrentand
timelyinformation,researchresults,andrelevantindustryupdates,aswellasascheduleofcurrentandfutureactivities
• Gatherandreportprogrammingoutputsandimpacts,todemonstrateprogrameffectivenessandtoguidefutureprogramprioritiesforMichiganSeaGrantCollegeProgram,GreeningMichiganInstitute,andMSUE.
• ThisindividualisresponsibleforworkingwithMichiganSeaGrantExtensionandMSUEadministrativeteammembers,aswellastheMichiganSeaGrantCollegeProgramadministrativeteam,toassurecompliancewithequalopportunity,affirmativeactionandothercivilrightsrequirements.Heorshe

willberesponsibleformeetingMSUExtensioncommitmentstodiversity/pluralism.
• TheeducatorwillpreparerequiredreportsnecessaryfortheEmployeeDevelopmentSystem(EDS)andassiststheInstituteDirector,DistrictCoordinatorandProgramCoordinatorofMichiganSeaGrantExtensionintabulatingrelevantinformationnecessaryforunitoutreachandotherreportingrequirements,includingMIPPRS,andotherMSUEorMichiganSeaGrantreports.
• ItisexpectedthattheSeaGranteducatorwillparticipateinappropriatein-servicetrainingandprofessionaldevelopmentactivitiesthatmaintainprogramareaeffectivenessandcompetenceintheireducationalroles.
• Theeducatormustalsoperformotherdutiesasassigned,asrelatedtothemissionoftheprogram.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:• Master'sdegreefromanaccreditedinstitutioninafieldofstudyrelatedto
freshwatercoastalwetlands,fisheriesorwildlifeecology,waterquality,landuse,planning,naturalresources,orrelatedfieldmustbeearnedbydateofhire;
• 3-years’experienceinExtensionprogramdeliveryordemonstratedabilityandskillineducationalprogramplanning,implementationandevaluation(relevantexperienceacquiredwithinthelast5-yearspreferred);
• Provenabilitytocreateandcarry-outaprojectplanfromresearchofinitialconcepttoprojectcompletionandfollow-up;
• Experiencewithmarketing/promotionofeducationalprograms;• Stronginterpersonal,oralandwrittencommunicationskills;• Experienceandprovenabilityworkingproductivelywithateam;• Proficiencyinuseoftechnology(e.g.webresearch,MicrosoftWord,Excel,
PowerPoint,Outlookformail/calendaring,distancetechnology,etc.)forday-to-dayworkandeducationalprogramdelivery,recordkeeping,reporting,team-basedcommunicationsandoverallmanagement;
• Thispositionrequirestravelasaregularpartofthepositionandcarryingofeducationalmaterials,equipment,etc.upto25lbs.
• Demonstratedsuccessinprogramdevelopmentanddeliverytodiverseaudiences/communitiesincludingbutnotlimitedtorace,gender,socioeconomicclass,disabilitiesandotherdifferences;
• Provenabilityinestablishingandmaintainingstrongstakeholderpartnershipsandworkingwithadiversenetworkofconstituentsandcommunitymembersacrossrace,gender,socioeconomicclass,disabilitiesandotherdifferencestoassistwithprogramdevelopmentandoutreach;
• UnderstandingofandabilitytoimplementCivilRightsprinciplesandcompliancestandards.
