Schrack Seconet is a member ofthe Swiss Securitas Group andhas been working successfullywith its sister company in

Switzerland and in Germany for years. Italways has been very important for ourgroup not only to keep developmentactivities but also manufacturing processesin Central Europe. The production of ourfire alarm systems is located at our sistercompany Hekatron Technik GmbH inGermany and our communication systemsat Becom GmbH in Austria. In this waywe are able to guarantee the high qualityof our systems we are known for. InGermany we are cooperating closely withour sister company Securiton GmbH. Inthe SecoREPORT of this issue of “Fire &Care” Horst Geiser, Managing Directorof Securiton GmbH, tells us about theGerman security engineering market andprovides us with an outlook on thedevelopments to be expected in this sector.

Solutions based on IP technology arethe future – that’s the feedback we getfrom all markets in which we are active.Our VISOCALL IP communicationsystem, for example, is already used inmany hospitals as well as nursing andold people’s homes both in Austria andabroad. We have further developedvarious components and have equippedour VISOTAX billing system and ourSecurWATCH positioning system withIP technology. The VISOCALL IPportfolio is made complete with the newstaff terminal, which is designed to replacethe current office terminal in the mediumterm.

Mobile even whensuffering from dementia

he number of people sufferingfrom dementia is constantlyrising. It is especially these people

who have to be looked after with greatcare, no matter whether they are livingin old people’s or nursing homes or athome. But also people suffering fromthis syndrome usually wantto be mobile, as for them thisis equivalent to quality ofliving. This puts their familiesand nursing staff in a ratherdemanding situation.

With SecurWATCH Schrack Seconet isoffering a system for the protection of peoplesuffering from dementia or disorientationto be used in nursing homes or old people’shomes. What makes this system so specialis that the components of SecurWATCHcan be interconnected also via IP. Ideally, itis also connected with our communicationsystem, VISOCALL IP. Alarm messages are

displayed at the VISOCALL control station.The options for use of SecurWATCH

have been substantially expanded. Whilebefore the system was based primarily onradio technology and therefore used mostlyinside buildings and only to a limited extentoutside, it is now possible, thanks to our

new GPS solution,to localize peoplealso in outside areas,such as gardens orparks. For residentsand patients thisnot only means

regaining some independence but alsooptimum protection, as nursing staff canbe alerted even if a person leaves a definedarea in exterior areas.

SecurWATCH now even makes itpossible to identify directions. By meansof two remote flat antennas the systemrecognizes whether someone admissiblyenters or inadmissibly leaves a sector.

systems by means of a technologicallysimple solution. High procurementcosts, complex interfaces andcomplicated server solutionstherefore are a thing of the past.Currently Schrack Seconet isdeveloping the billing systemVISOTAX IP for all users of theVISOCALL IP communicationplatform.

chrack Seconet’s communication system VISOCALLIP is getting even more up to date. Increasedconvenience, more functions and an improved user

interface – that’s what the new staff terminal, to belaunched in Q4/2012, will offer. It is operated by thenursing staff in the ward office and designed to replacethe office terminal in the medium term. The new staffterminal enables a markedly faster processing of calls andalarms and shows the current system status in an evenclearer presentation. In this way, communication pathsof nursing staff and doctors are considerably simplifiedand shortened.

The staff terminal comes with a totally new operationalconcept. The state-of-the-art interactive touchscreen replacesthe present membrane keypad. The high-quality display withits excellent contrast and the wide viewing angle makes surethat the display can be seen clearly from all sides, thus providinga quick and optimum overview even if light conditions arepoor. The intuitive menu concept supports decision-making

he Galleria Shopping Centre, situated in thecity centre in Vienna’s third district, underwent asubstantial renovation in 2010 and is now offering

a great and upscale shopping experience in a modernambience. In addition to stores offering internationalbrands you will find a great variety of restaurants. TheCentre is also very popular as an event location andmeeting point.

In the framework of the renovation, the security and firealarm systems of the two-storied building were thoroughlyrefurbished. Schrack Seconet has installed the entire accesscontrol system, protecting the entrance area with a light curtainas well as glass break detectors that are connected with anintrusion detection control centre.

he Ministry of Health in Gabon, Central Africa,is currently refurbishing the General Hospitalin Libreville, the country’s capital. The project

value is about 42.5 million euros. The “Centre Hospitalierde Libreville” has about 600 beds and is now beingcompletely renovated.

Schrack Seconet has conducted the project together withVAMED Engineering GmbH & Co KG and has installedits Integral IP fire alarm system as well as its VISOCALL IPnurse call system. We were able to demonstrate VISOCALLIP’s great variety of applications during the bidding processfor this project. Schrack Seconet won the contract thanks

Escalation, i. e. call forwardingon no-reply within a defined time, is another essentialbenefit of the IP system and another reason for winningthe contract. VISOCALL IP excels by its flexibility andsteps up the quality of medical care at the GeneralHospital in Libreville.

chrack Seconet is a global player and well-establishedalso in India. With its project in Cuddalore, a seaport inthe South-Eastern State of Tamil Nadu, the safety and

security expert is proving its competence for fire protection incritical environments.

On an area of 850 hectares (about 344 acres) the refinery ofthe Nagarjuna Oil Corporation Limited (NOCL) processes aboutsix million tons of crude oil per year. Schrack Seconet hasequipped the premises with 25 Integral IP MX fire alarmpanels. More than 1300 detectors are on the alert around theclock and, thanks to the IP system, the highly sensitive productis monitored in accordance with the highest security standardsusing the most advanced technology. In the control room aSecoLOG operations control station safeguards clear and centralindication and control of the fire alarm panels. SecoLOG collects

all messages and states of the connected fire alarm panels andpresents them on one or several PC workstations. All connectedsystems and lines are continuously checked for their correctfunction, thus guaranteeing the highest reliability. SchrackSeconet partner, Larsen & Toubro, took care of the installation.

he Riverside Shopping Centre was builton the premises of the Liesing Breweryin the 23rd district of Vienna and was

opened on September 29, 2010. Since the smallLiesing river flows by in the immediateneighbourhood of the building, it was named“Riverside”.

The shopping centre, with its more than 20,000square meters and 60 shops, offers ideal prerequisitesfor enjoying an extended shopping spree andmultiple culinary attractions. On two levels themodern environment and the high-quality equipmentoffer everything it takes for a great shoppingexperience. Thanks to Schrack Seconet also all thedemands on reliable fire protection are met. Afterall, the building is protected by Integral IP firealarm panels and more than 1,500 detectors,controlling also a great number of sprinkler zones.In case of a fire a total of 90 sirens take care ofacoustic alerting. Schrack Seconet’s fire alarm systemsare renowned for their 100% redundancy and thehighest-possible failsafety. Therefore, guests andstaff of the shopping centre enjoy maximum safety.

sister company of Schrack Seconet.More than one year ago Horst Geiserbecame Managing Director of thissupplier of security systems. In hisconversation with Fire & Care heinformed us about developments inGermany.

F&C: Securiton GmbH isvery successful. What do youthink about the market forsecurity systems in Germany?

Geiser: In Germany thesituation is similar to Austria.T h e t e n d e n c y t o w a r d ss t anda rd i s a t i on i s h ighand there is a lot of pricecompetition, especially onparts of the fire alarm market.However, we see it just likeSchrack Seconet in Austria. Theimportant thing is to focus onthe segments where qualityand high-end products arecalled for. We do not offer cheapproducts. Safety and securityawareness has become a generalprinciple in the companies.Moreover, we see on the Germanmarket that there are peoplewith a high need for protection,primarily in heavily exposedprivate areas. Therefore we haveestablished a separate businessunit, called “Premium Private”,for this business segment.

F&C: What are the ingredientsfor this success story?

Geiser: The structure within the Securitasgroup is just perfect. We have centresof competence for the various tradesin Switzerland, Austria and Germany.Manufacturing is organized centrally inthe group. For Germany it is save to saythat major customers, such as Lufthansaor the utility EON, prefer to have systemsinstalled by the manufacturers themselves.And, of course, we also score with goodcoordination and an excellent internationalproduct management. Other benefits arethe optimum use of synergy effects andthe high flexibility of each individualpartner. There is no group pressure andeach company is able to move freely onits markets. In this way we were ableto write the success stories that we canboast of today.

F&C: What are the trends that we will seein the field of security engineering in thenear future?

Geiser: Video analysis is at its verybeginnings and will become moreestablished. Companies active in localpassenger traffic are very interested inthis sector. But also companies that haveto protect great areas are interested in theproduct. And, of course, IP-technology is thetechnology of the future. This is true forpreventive fire protection as well as securitysystems and communication systems. In thelatter field we offer the first-class systemVISOCALL IP, which, as you know, has beendeveloped by Schrack Seconet. With thisproduct we can convince our customers, andVISOCALL IP has become established onthe markets in Germany and Luxembourg.

F&C: What are the major challenges foryour companies in the coming years?

Horst Geiser, 51, began his career withSecuriton GmbH in 1995. A graduatedelectrical engineer, he took over the technicalmanagement of the company in 2000, andfrom 2006 onwards he was deputy managingdirector. As from January 1, 2011, he assumedthe leadership of the company, togetherwith company founder Artur Schmidt. HorstGeiser is married and has two grown-upchildren. In his leisure time he likes to makemusic – he plays the guitar in a band – andhe is also an enthusiastic sportsman. Hisfavourites are biking, both mountain bikingas well as racing, running and swimming.Given this mixture, it is small wonder that healso takes part in minor triathlons, which hesees as a particular challenge.

Geiser: We have been full-rangesuppliers for the entire security areafor only ten years. One of my goalsfor the near future, therefore, is tosignificantly increase our maintenanceand service volume. On the Germanmarket we are well established asa security company. But we want tokeep on growing, not just in linewith the general market growth but

also by winning market shares fromour competitors. With the systemsolutions that we and the entire groupare able to offer, I am convinced thatwe will succeed in the end. After all,we want to market our video analysisall over Europe with the support ofour partners. In Austria this productwill be offered by Schrack Seconet.
