Beams must always be numbered in bottom-to-top direction, as shown in the figure
When synchronised via cable, the last beam can also be used for measurements
When optically synchronised, the uppermost beam must never be obstructed as this would interrupt the measurement function
The following measurements can be assigned to the output FBO First beam obstructed
LBO Last beam obstructed
CBOCentral beam obstructed
NBONumber of beams obstructed
NCBO Maximum number of consecutive beams obstructed

AV barrier voltage output corresponds to the measurement performed according to the following formula:
Vo = ((10V / beams no.) x measurement)
E.g.: with a 30-beam barrier and an NBO measurement of 15, Micron voltage outputs will be: Vo = ((10V / 30) x 15) = 5V
AC barrier current output corresponds to the measurement performed according to the following formula:
Io = ((16mA / beams no.) x measurement) + 4mA
E.g.: with a 26-beam barrier and an LBO measurement of 13, Micron current outputs will be: Io = ((16mA / 26) x 13) + 4mA = 12mA

Barriers’ characteristics are automatically recognised by the software
Synchronism configuration
Synchronisation between TX and RX can be set in the following ways Via-cable synchronisation: connecting the
SYNC signals of emitter and receiver
Optical synchronisation: using the last beam of the barrier
Receiver sensitivity configuration
Receiver sensitivity can be adjusted according to the distance between transmitter and receiver Normal sensitivity: recommended for d >
50cm
Reduced sensitivity: recommended for d < 50cm

Orientation configuration
Beam numbering can be set according to the barrier orientation Normal orientation: low connectors (first
beam in low position)
Upturned orientation: high connectors (first beam in low position)
Scan-cycle configuration
The number of cycle used to perform measuring can be configured 1-cicle: fast measuring process, less precise,
sensitive to light interference
2-cicle: measuring process with good balance between speed and precision
3-cicle: high precision measuring process, slower process, non-sensitive to light interference

Teach-In
This function can be used to set the barrier to recognise a particular object or pattern. This can be done in three different ways, see table below
MicronConfigurator Software
Option Description
1 Moving object recognition
Objects to be recognised must be opaque (without transparency points) and occupy a certain number of contiguous beams. The barrier shall recognise the memorised object in any position within the measuring range
2 Fixed object (pattern) recognition
Objects to be recognised can have any shape, be completely opaque or with transparent points. The barrier shall recognise the object only when it occupies the same memorised position
3 Blanking Objects to be recognised can have any shape, be completely opaque or with transparent points. Objects are normally part of the machinery (i.e. moving arms, protections, etc.) occupying part of the measuring range. The barrier will non count this object in the measuring process

10 and 30 mm beam spaced models have a Push Pull 0/24VDC PNP/NPN digital output
When switched-on, the barrier automatically recognises the type of connection and self-sets
The two exits are independent and can be connected for example to a PNP load and a NPN load simultaneously

Applications
Safety. Detection. Control.
This particular application requires to detect the maximum height of the stored goods in order to maximise the system overall capacity
Small high-speed moving items are detected thanks to a custom developed optic set
Furthermore, Micron xxD is customised to satisfy the needs of automated warehousing applications, including Accuracy of the reading in every position of the storing drawer:
left, right or centre positioned
Ability of measuring small dimension objects (less than 2 mm at 600mm/sec)) particularly during the high-speed transit of the storing drawers in front of the barrier
Immunity to optical reflections

Storing drawers are withdrawn/deposited in the relevant picking bays via an automated elevator
The warehouse integrated automation systems controls all safety and measuring functions of the machine

Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsMicron ACD: customised version for automated warehousing
Safety. Detection. Control.
The system must be able to measure the maximum height of the items stored in each storing drawer in order to determine the correct positioning within the storing bays, maximising the system overall capacity
This specific measurement is achieved with a dedicated measuring barrier located inside the warehouse system (see red circle)
Measurement is required to be accurate on all sides of the storing drawer (right, left and centre) as well as being immune to optical reflections that could eventually alter the data

Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsTextile machines – Finishing processes
This particular application requires the detection of the position, the width and and the possible presence of holes or rips of the fabric during the finishing process
The fabric in process flows with speeds of more than 1 meter per second
The problem is the correct detection of the fabric when it is light and semi-transparent
The power and the characteristic of normal beams do not allow a reliable detection as the beam passes through the tissue that is not detected with continuity
ReeR developed a high sensitivity (HS) version (working range from 0 to 500 mm) of Micron ideal for a reliable detection in this application and similar ones

Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsGlass and wood machines – Painting and finishing processes
This particular application requires the detection of the position, the width and the shape of the panels to be painted or worked
The robotic spray system is driven by the information detected by the light curtain
The Reading Barrier at the inlet ensures high definition in the acquisition of shape, size, piece position, to automatically generate the best spraying paths
Safety. Detection. Control.11 2017 34MICRON ENG - REV. 2.1.1
Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsAutomatic reciprocators for industrial painting
The light curtain detects the dimensions of the piece at the entry and drive the reciprocators and the spraying system

Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsMarble and granite processing – Polishing machines
The light curtain detects the dimension, position and shape of the marble slabs to be polished
The plates are supported in a horizontal position on the conveyor system. The barrier is positioned horizontally above and below the conveyor belt

Compact light curtain for measurement applicationsAutomated carton packing systems
Automatic packer receives and arranges the bottles arriving from the filling section, pick them up in a desired quantity and format and place them in cartons or crates
Safety. Detection. Control.11 2017 37MICRON ENG - REV. 2.1.1
Compact light curtain for measurement applications
The machine picks up the bottles and the light curtain, placed horizontally, must verify that there are no remaining bottles on the conveyor. If a one or more bottles have not been picked-up micron detect the their presence and position
The problem is the reliable detection of the bottles as they are transparent
The power and the characteristic of normal light curtain do not allow a reliable detection as the beams could passes through the bottles without detecting them
The Micron xxD special version can perform a reliable detection in this application
