The Iran-Iraq War was a war between the armed forces of Iraq and Iran lasting from September 1980 to August 1988. The war began when Iraq invaded Iran on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes and demands for the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's regime. Although the Iraqis attacked without formal warning, they failed to make progress and were soon repelled by the Iranians.

. September 21, 1980, Iraq invaded Iran and bombed air bases and other targets. Because of this invasion -- Khomeini sent thousands of young Iranians to their death in "human-wave" attacks. Saddam used chemical weapons against the Iranians.

Saddam's only income was from oil and Kuwait was pumping over its OPEC quota and the price of oil was collapsing. Every time the price of oil fell by one dollar, Iraq lost a billion dollars in income.

Iran and owed at least $50 billion to 100 billion dollars. US and the former Soviet Union (countries which have provided Saddam with weaponry before) told other nations to withdraw all shipments except food and medicine.

Even the straw hat that he wears occasionally is lined with Kevlar. And, he looks more sturdy than he is, he looks rounder than he is, because he is wearing a bulletproof vest

US. On March 17, 2003, President George Bush told him that he had only two days to leave the country or he would have to face removal by force. Saddam refused and as a result, on March 20, the United States and its allies launched many air attacks on Iraq. After the air attacks, a ground invasion by US and British troops. He went in to hiding. Troops were looking for Saddam Hussein in Baghdad.

Raids began early. this morning and struck homes, abandoned buildings and farms that were housing Saddam Hussein loyalists or other groups fighting the American-led occupation. Saddam was convicted of crimes against humanity, including willful killing, illegal imprisonment, deportation, and torture, and sentenced to death by hanging. Saddam's half brother (an intelligence officer) and Iraq's former chief judge also were sentenced to death. Days after an Iraqi court upheld his sentence, Saddam was hanged in Baghdad on Dec. 30, 2006.
