Anyone who is hospitalized: Hospitals are limiting access to patients out of an abundance of caution. Fr.

Sebastian will follow the hospital guidelines.

In case of serious or life-threatening sickness or the actively dying: Fr. Sebastian or Deacon Don should be

contacted as soon as possible. It is imperative with current situations, that there be enough time for Fr. Sebastian

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM OUR STAFF

“Trail Mix” ~ A snack for the journey by Deacon Don Hammond

Jesus Leads Us Out Loretta’s mom spent the last few years of her life in an assisted living facility. We would visit her and speak to

her almost every day. But what I found was there was less and less to talk about. When you reach into nineties,

life becomes rather small. You are down to the basics. More often than not we would end up talking to Lena

about food. “So, mom, what did you have for lunch today? Oh good, did you enjoy it? Did you have ice cream?

Mom, let’s look at the menu for dinner to see what your options will be.” Now it seems to me, with the Corona

Virus lock down, that that Loretta and I are starting to sound like we’re in assisted living. We are talking about

food a lot. What’s for dinner tonight? Are you making more spaghetti sauce? Is this a new recipe? We’re

definitely eating a lot more!

Being shut down by the corona virus has reduced our lives. The basics are left. More and more our days become

focused on what we will have for dinner. I think that all of us are getting tired of staying at home. Our lives seem

so reduced and limited. We are losing patience with staying in.

The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus presents himself as our shepherd who intends to lead us out. The

scripture says that he calls each one of us by name and then walks ahead of us expecting us to follow. Jesus

leads us out, and he leads us out today. Jesus wants to lead us to something new even as we shelter in place. Our

mobility is greatly reduced, but Jesus does not want us to be idle. He wants us to follow him to something new.

The scripture says Jesus calls each of us by name, so what Jesus is asking of us will vary from person to person.

What is important, however, is to ask, to what is Jesus calling you?

Perhaps he is calling you to reach out to someone. Now we do this routinely, speaking to our family and friends.

But Jesus may be asking you to reach out to someone you have not spoken to in some time. Perhaps there is

someone that you have always admired or someone who has influenced your life, and yet you have never

personally contacted him or her. We know many people. This might be the time to reach out to some of them.

Perhaps Jesus might be leading you to learn something new, to delve into an area that you have always been

interested in, but never had the time to explore. It could be an area of art, history, economics, ecology, or

politics. Every time we learn something new and true, it increases our capability and power to impact the world.

Perhaps Jesus is asking you to use this time in isolation to learn more, so that when we finally are able to leave

our homes, we will have new power to build his kingdom.

The corona virus has locked us in. Jesus intends to lead us out. Even though we are in isolation our lives need

to be more than just thinking about tonight’s dinner. We have the ability to grow through reaching out to others

and learning. Jesus calls us by name to things that are new. Listen, and follow him. God bless.

In our Gospel for today Jesus says, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” From the time that Jesus began his work of teaching and preaching, he gathered a group of followers around him. From this group, Jesus carefully chose twelve to be with him at all times, to witness everything he was doing. The Gospels call these Twelve the Apostles, because the word apostle means “one who is sent.” Jesus prepared his Apostles to carry on his work after his life on earth was over. But Jesus had no intention of leaving his friends on their own. Jesus promised he would send the Holy Spirit to remind the Apostles of all that he had said to them. The Holy Spirit would give the Apostles the power to carry Jesus’ message to the ends of the earth. Our Catholic Faith Word ~ Pentecost. Just as Jesus promised, the Apostles received the power of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, a day that is often called the birthday of the Church. And the saving work of Jesus was continued through the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Church. Through the Holy Spirit, all of us are joined together to be the Church. We don’t just belong to the Church. We are the Church, Christ’s Body. Through the Church, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, Jesus shares his life with us.

Dear Loving and Gracious God, Source of All Blessings,

We bow down before you today with a grateful heart. Thank you for all the blessings you have bestowed

upon us. We thank you for the precious gift of life in all its forms.

We thank you, God, for the gift of our individual lives. You created us in your image. You made us each

unique, giving us gifts and talents to share with the world. May we use these talents to serve you and your

people well.

We thank you, God, for the lives of our families. You have surrounded us with people who love and care

for us. Our families are a source of support and inspiration. Bless your domestic churches with wisdom,

guidance and protection as they follow in the footsteps of the Holy Family.

We thank you, God, for the gift of creation and all creatures big and small. May we honor the plants and

animals that sustain us. The birds of the sky, the fish of the sea and all animals of the land. Help us to

remember we are called to care for our earth and natural resources not only for ourselves, but for the

generations to come.

Most of all, we thank you, God, for the most precious life of Your son Jesus Christ. His life was created out

of your love for us. May we honor that life by living out his example of love for ourselves, our community

and for your creation.

For these, and all blessings, we give you thanks, eternal, loving God, through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
