Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar born April 24, 1973 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, is an Indian cricketer widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket. In 2002, Wisden ranked him the second greatest Test batsman of all time next only to Sir Donald Bradman, and the second greatest one-day international (ODI) batsman of all time next only to Sir Viv Richards. The list was later revised to make him the greatest one-day international (ODI) batsman of all time.

He was 11 years old when he was given his first cricket bat and his talent in the sport was immediately apparent. At the age of 14 Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli shared a record 664-run partnership, playing for Shardashram Vidya Mandir against St. Xavier's in Harris Shield on February 24, 1988.

He made his international test debut against Pakistan, 15 November 1989 at the age of sixteen, becoming India's youngest Test player and ODI debut on 18 December 1989 against Pakistan.

Tendulkar's first Test century was achieved against England in the Test match played at Old Trafford, Manchester in 1990, where he scored 119 not out.

Sachin had to wait for 79 matches for his first ODI century. His first ODI century was against Australia in the third match of the Singer World Series, at Colombo, September 9, 1994.

Tendulkar's performance through the years 1994–1999 coincided with his physical peak, in his early twenties.

Tendulkar's rise continued when he was the leading run scorer at the 1996 World Cup, scoring two centuries.

Sachin Tendulkar continued performing well in Test cricket in 2001 and 2002, with some pivotal performances with both bat and ball.

Tendulkar made 673 runs in 11 matches in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, helping India reach the final.

On 10 December 2005 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Tendulkar scored his record-breaking 35th Test century, against the Sri Lankans.

Tendulkar's dominance of his sport has continued, even as he's moved well into his thirties. He scored his record-breaking 35th century in Test play in December 2005 in a match against Sri Lanka.

In June 2007 he set another mark when he became the first player to record 15,000 runs in one-day international play. In January 2010 he again moved into the record books when became the first batsman to score 13,000 runs in Test play.

In 2011 World Cup a massing 482 runs at an average of 53.55 including two centuries, India defeated Sri Lanka in the final. Shortly after the victory, Tendulkar commented that "Winning the World Cup is the proudest moment of my life. ... I couldn't control my tears of joy."

SACHIN TENDULKAR AFTER ANNOUNCE RETIREMENT FROM TEST:

All my life I have had a dream of playing cricket for India. I have been living this dream every day for the last 24 years. It’s hard for me to imagine a life without playing cricket because it’s all I have ever done since I was 11 years old. It’s been a huge honour to have represented my country and played all over the world. I look forward to playing my 200th Test Match on home soil, as I call it a day.
