This position is accountable to the MPS for all matters relating to the legal practice of the centre.

DUTIES

Legal Advice and Casework Service Provide high quality legal advice and casework to CAWLS clients. This includes:

General Undertake training/professional development in consultation with the Office Manager and MPS.

Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

Attend regular staff meetings as required.

Maintain a teamwork approach at all times.

Other relevant duties as directed.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

Eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory and at least two years post admission experience.

Demonstrated post-admission experience in a broad range of matters, particularly in family law and Family and Domestic violence as well as generalist legal advice.

Demonstrated commitment to meeting the legal needs of disadvantaged groups.

Demonstrated experience in working autonomously and in a team.

Commitment to social justice and equality.

Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills, including the ability to simplify legal jargon and to work well within a team environment.

Demonstrated computer literacy.

Manual drivers licence.

Experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) / Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.

Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of Domestic and Family violence as it affects women.

Demonstrated ability to work with client groups who may be reluctant to disclose legal issues.

Desirable

Experience collaborating with health professionals in a legal delivery context to optimise a client’s ability to provide instructions and improve outcomes.

PERIOD OF APPOINTMENT

The position is subject to satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period. This position is subject to ongoing funding.

HOURS OF WORK

The position is thirty seven and half (37.5) hours per week.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The CAWLS Management Committee is the employer.

The Legal Practitioner is supervised by the Managing Principal Solicitor.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS

A competitive salary is offered depending on experience. Generous salary sacrificing is available. The Employer pays superannuation at 10% and 6 weeks annual leave. Enquiries for the salary range can be made via email.

Some relocation expenses available for interstate candidates.
