Report of EviGenCHIP Workshop-2014
Date: 12th and 13th June, 2014.
Batch: Ahir Summy Batch
Venue: Auditorium, Sumandeep Vidyapeeth.
A 2 day workshop on EviGenCHIP was held for Ahir Summy batch on the 12th and 13th
of June, 2014 at the auditorium of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth. A total of 25 faculties and 110
students participated in the workshop.
The workshop began with the registration of the faculty and delegates. The first session
was on the introduction to the concept of EviGenCHIP by Dr. Niraj Pandit. This was followed by
a talk on what are the different issues which can be called a problem and worked upon. This
session was conducted by Dr. Lakhan Kataria.
After tea break it was time for the first group activity by the delegates, guided by the
faculty. The students were divided into 5 groups, each group being mentored by 6 faculty. The
list of groups and their faculty is attached as Annexure 1.
The first post lunch session was on how the identified problem can be refined into a
research topic and how contemporary literature can be assessed and searched for relevant
references to the problem at hand. This session was taken by Dr. Ajay George. This was
followed by the second group activity on Refining the problem and searching literature.
Day two started with 3 didactic sessions on Research designs, Ethics in research and
Searching for solutions and Framing the question, by Dr. Divyang Patel, Dr. Arvind Kanchan
and Dr. Sagun Desai respectively.
The third group activity was conducted after tea. The post lunch session began with
session on Action plan and Gantt Charting for project activities by Dr, Lavlesh Kumar. The
students were informed of the schedule of different activities related to their projects. This
schedule is attached as Annexure 2.
The final group activity was on preparing the action plan for the respective projects and
fine tuning different aspects of the projects.
The final session was on Feedback of the workshop from both faculty and delegates. The
valedictory function was presided by the Dean, Dr. G. V. Shah. Two students from the last year’s
batch, Arushi Agarwal batch viz. Harsh Hirani and Kesha Mankad recounted their experiences of
doing the project. Dr. G. V. Shah gave a short address on the importance of doing such projects.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Ajay George.
At the end of the workshop, a total of 18 projects were identified by the student groups to
be worked upon. List is attached herewith.

Report- EviGenCHIP Workshop (Bharpoda Kunjan Batch)
Evidence generating community health intervention project is unique programme initiated by Medical Education Unit of Smt B.K Shah medical institute & research centre. EviGenCHIP provides medical students to experience the rewards of group discussion, learning from insight of other participants and developing collective wisdom. It also give them opportunity to contribute generating evidence in the scientific community and make them problem solving.
Bharpoda Kunjan Batch is the 4th Batch that was participating in EviGenCHIP programme. Different faculty members from difference department are identified as mentor for a group of students. Total strength of students were 32. They are divided in six groups. 6 mentors were identified to guide students.
A pre workshop meeting was organized at college council room with all mentors & faculty members to make them orient about EviGenCHIP concept & process.
A one day workshop was organized for students to make them orient about EviGenCHIP process. Workshop was held on 29th December 2015 at Biochemistry Demonstration Hall. Faculty members, mentors and students were actively participated in workshop and at the end of workshop ruff synopsis of 6 projects were made. All projects were finalized under guidance of mentors and ethical approval was derived from SVIEC. During a period of 4 month all groups collect data, analyze data and prepared a report and submit it under guidance of mentors.
All groups were made presentation in front of Judge on 29 th April 2016 in biochemistry demonstration hall. Based on presentation and project Dr Bhagya (Judge) evaluates each group.

Report- EviGenCHIP Workshop (Agrawal Tanvi Batch)
The word EviGenCHIP means Evidence Generating Community Health Projects. Concept of EvigenCHIP comes from PSBH (Problem solving for Better Health). We are continuously tried to find solution for Health problem and this is medical profession also. In EviGenCHIP programme, two full day workshop organized for whole batch. During this workshop sessions are held on different topics of research methodology, every session followed by brain storming. One project chose by group of five students and one faculty member as mentor as well as guide for these projects. The topic they chose are mostly those topics which students consider as public health problem and it is needed remedial action on that and students try to find out solution of this problem and during this process they will generate on evidence that will help medical fraternity to promote, preservation and restoration of health of community. This evidence is related with local situation so applicability is increased.This Process increases research aptitude among student.
Agrawal Tanvi is the 5th Batch that was participating in EviGenCHIP programme. Different faculty members from difference departments were identified as mentor for a group of students. Total strength of students was 84. They are divided in 13 groups. 13 mentors were identified to guide students.
A pre workshop meeting was organized on 20th June 2016 at college council room with mentors & faculty members to make them orient about EviGenCHIP concept & process. During this meeting a copy of SOP and handbook is provided to mentors so they can better prepare.
A Two full day workshop was organized for students to make them orient about EviGenCHIP process. Workshop was held on 29th & 30th June 2016 at Auditorium. Faculty members, mentors and students were actively participated in workshop and at the end of workshop ruff synopsis of 13 projects were made. All projects were finalized under guidance of mentors and ethical approval was derived from SVIEC. Evidence Generating Community Health Projects (EviGenCHIP) is the part of EBM teaching in SumandeepVidyapeeth, where students work on community health projects and generate new evidences. EviGenCHIP projects are preceded by two days training workshop on searching skills and other research aspects. EviGenCHIP is to sensitize the medical students in understanding community health problems, generate various levels of evidences and think to find out the solution with available resources at local set up.
A pre workshop meeting was organized on 30/12/2016 at college council room with mentors & faculty members to make them orient about EviGenCHIP concept & process. During this meeting a copy of SOP and handbook is provided to the mentors to get idea about the workshop.
Baldania Parth Kunjan Batch is the 6th Batch that was participating in EviGenCHIP programme. Two days workshop on Evidence Generating Community Health Project (EviGenCHIP) for 3rd M.B.B.S. Part-I students (Baldania Parth Batch) was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine dept., SBKS MI & RC, Piparia on 5 th - 6th
January 2017. This is the Practical exercise of EBES for 3rd year students as EviGenCHIP is the
component of EBM, Mentors has been allotted to the students to complete the projects. Lectures on related topics were taken by trained Facilitators of the SBKS MI RC for the mentors and students which were followed by group work activities.
In group work activities, the mentors who have been allotted their group of students joined and worked on the problem and discussed step by step in each group activity according to the topics taught in the lecture.
Total 76 students participated from the Baldania Parth batch and divided in 16 groups. These 16 projects were completed by the students under the guidance of mentors successfully in time line given to them and presented in powerpoint format in front of the judges (Dr. J.D.Lakhani & Dr. Prasad Mulley). Marks had been allotted to the students according to performances and were added to practical component of EBM.

Part-I students (Amin Aneri Batch) was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine dept., on behalf of SBKS MI & RC, Piparia on 3rd - 4th May 2017.
This is the Practical exercise of EBES for 3rd year students as EviGenCHIP is the component of EBM, Mentors has been allotted to the students to complete the projects. Lectures on related topics were taken by trained Facilitators of the SBKS MI RC for the mentors and students which were followed by group work activities.
In group work activities, the mentors who have been allotted their group of students joined and worked on the problem and discussed step by step in each group activity according to the topics taught in the lecture.
Total 102 students participated from the Amin Aneri batch and divided in 20 groups. So these group of students are going to do 20 EviGenCHIP projects under the guidance of 19 mentors from various department of SBKS MIRC.
After the completion of the projects in given time line, projects will be presented in powerpoint format in front of the judges and marks will be allotted according to performance of the individuals which will be added in the practical component of EBM.
