It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. DISCIPLESHIP AND WEALTH

Sometimes we get the idea that having material wealth is a bad thing. We may convince ourselves that it is the poor who are favored. In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most.

Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. The next offering for a Women’s Study Group will be a consecration to Jesus through Mary using the retreat book 33 Days to Morning Glory.

From the Cross, our Lord gave us His mother as our spiritual mother. When we consecrate ourselves to Mary, she fulfills that role by leading us to the merciful Heart of Jesus.

We will meet on Mondays for 6 weeks for a dvd teaching and small group discussion. During the 33 days of this “retreat” we will read a short selection (2-3 pages) about the Marian devotion of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximillian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and Pope St. John Paul II. We will prayerfully ponder the daily readings, meditating in our hearts as our Blessed Mother did. Our consecration date will be December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the beginning of the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.

We will meet in the upstairs of St. Patrick Center from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning on November 2. The cost for the materials is $5. To register or for more information, call Patty Costantino (724-745-3526) or Karen Luksis (724-745-3767). Please register by October 25. Join us and see why many saints have said that Marian consecration is the quickest, easiest, most perfect way to become a saint.
