Saint Isidore the Farmer will be offering one Faith Formation program with several options for families to choose from. Please select the type of learning that best suits your family and student(s). Start date for all options is the week of October 18, 2020.
∙ Traditional classroom learning offered in various locations at various times.
∙ Home Schooling
∙ Cyber learning which will utilize the OSV websites and online resources in conjunction with the textbook.
∙ Textbook and no online resources.
Five of the six parishes offered Faith Formation on Sunday morning in the past and it is impossible for Donna Lew-Buechel, Director of Faith Formation, to be at all sites at one time. Many of you responded with times and locations that work best and we thank you for your input. We are offering four different sessions. Our goal is to make it possible for our families to attend traditional classes if they choose in a location and at a time that can be accessible.
Below are the locations and times:
∙ St. Alphonsus Site: Sunday morning 9:30 to 11:00 am
∙ St. Columbkille Site: Monday evening 6:00 to 7:30 pm
Wednesday evening 6:00 to 7:30 pm
∙ St. Michael Site: Sunday evening 6:00 to 7:30 pm (church hall)
∙ Our Lady Of Lourdes Site: Tuesday evening 6:00 to 7:30 pm
The St Patrick site is not being used as social distancing would be difficult due to the use of tables and walking through one class area to reach another class area. St. Ann site is not being used as the size of the area for classes is too small to social distance. St. Michael will be utilizing the hall with partitions from St. Ann’s. The class area will be set up so crossing through one class to another is eliminated. Also, the restrooms are on the same level which is safer for the children and teachers.
You may register your children directly through the parish website via the online form, which can be found at www.stisidorethefarmer.org/ccd. Or, you may register your children using the paper registration form which will be mailed out and can be returned through US mail or email by October 12, 2020. All students will receive a textbook to be picked up at a scheduled time for Cyber / Homeschooling or will be given the first night of class. All textbooks will be enclosed in a zip lock bag with the student’s name.
Depending on the enrollment of students for traditional learning at each site, sessions may be weekly or bi weekly. Families will only be notified if bi-weekly classes are necessary.
We are asking that students bring their own supplies such as pencils, markers, crayons etc as we cannot have communal supplies. Students will also be given a zip lock bag with their name on it at the first class. This bag will remain on site with their bagged textbook and they will be the only person touching the contents.
All students, unless a medical condition is present, must wear a mask at all times. Teachers will give the appropriate mask breaks as outlined in the CDC and the Diocese of Pittsburgh Guidelines. Hallways, stairs etc. will be marked for visual social distancing ques. If symptoms are noticed or reported, the student will be brought to Donna Lew-Buechel and their temperature will be taken. The student’s parents / guardians will be notified. The student will remain in the isolation area until they are picked up.
We thank you for being patient during this time of change and uncertainty. Saint Isidore the Farmer Parish will not seek any registration fee or payment this year. We are keeping all our families in our prayers.
Please feel free to contact Donna Lew-Buechel with any questions or concerns regarding Faith Formation at [email protected] , call 724-695-2146 (office) or 724-986-2557 (cell) , or visit www.stisidorethefarmer.org/ccd.
Sincerely,
St. Isidore the Farmer Parish Faith Formation

My name is Bro. Michael Andrejko and I am a De La Salle Christian Brother and am currently stationed here in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh at Central Catholic High School. I am also a 1986 graduate of Central and have been a Christian Brother for 33 yrs.
Many thanks to Bishop David Zubik for giving us the opportunity to say a few words to you today about the De La Salle Christian Brothers and our Mission around the world. In a quote taken from Bro. Neil Kieffe, "If we leave the missions now our message would be lost." The De La Salle Christian Brothers, are in 80 countries around the globe educating young people, especially those most in need. Although I could give lots of facts and figures about our work, my focus will be on my own personal experience from spending 6 months at Bethlehem University in the Holy Land.
Bethlehem University is the only Catholic University in the West Bank. Founded in 1973 at the request of Pope Paul VI, this University serves as a beacon of hope for over 3,000 current and 16,000 graduates of this academic Institution. I have seen first-hand the daily miracle of giving people hope by giving them a Catholic Education. The De La Salle Christian Brothers have been in Bethlehem since 1893. The university property in Bethlehem has served as a haven for young people seeking a better way of life. It is a miracle in the sense that all the problems we experience in terms of our own personal, familial, and professional lives are still there in addition to the many restrictions and limitations of human rights that takes place in Palestine.
Listen to the voice of one of our graduates: "In general, our daily life here in Palestine is really hard, because we're under occupation and we have the separation wall and settlements everywhere. Because of the conflict in our region, there is a lot of young people who are killed or in prison because of actions against us." Lara Kasbari, a graduate of Bethlehem University who is representing the problems in Palestine on a global scale reflects "Unfortunately, I have not been able to visit the Holy Places in Jerusalem due to the restrictions imposed by the occupation." One of the biggest challenges the students face is mobility. Living near the wall and near a conflict area has restricted all movement in a major way. It's very unpredictable when a conflict arises in the area and students are not able to reach the university or are not able to get home. Despite these challenges and restrictions, receiving a quality education at Bethlehem University gives motivation and hope. Bethlehem University has equipped the students with necessarily skills and knowledge to succeed. The students are more likely to be hired than other graduates from other universities. Moreover, Bethlehem University has cultivated a sense of determination to positively influence the community and persevere for a positive change." The Christian Brothers, who are stationed at Bethlehem University, are committed to creating a better life for the Palestinian people.
These brothers, along with their lay partners, are committed to giving a human and Christian education to young people. The cost at Bethlehem University is $4000 USD per student. The most any individual student pays is $2000. In order to make up the difference, funds must be raised for tuition and capital projects to keep the university going financially. So, the funds for these projects comes from people like you. I have seen firsthand that your prayers, generosity and solidarity can make a viable difference with the young. The mission of giving a solid Catholic education is greater now than it ever has been! Thank you for your attention today. I would encourage you to be as generous as you can with this collection. Your prayers, support, and financial contributions are more appreciated than you can ever imagine!

READINGS FOR OCTOBER 11, 2020, THE TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Reading 1 IS 25:6-10A
On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines. On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples, the web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face; the reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!" For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain. The Word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm PS 23-1-3A, 3B-4,5,6
R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. In verdant pastures he gives me repose; beside restful waters he leads me; he refreshes my soul. R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. He guides me in right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side with your rod and your staff that give me courage. R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come.
R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.
Reading 2 PHIL 4:12-14, 19-20
Brothers and sisters: I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress. My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father, glory forever and ever. Amen.
The Word of the Lord.
R. Thanks be to God.
Alleluia EPH 1:17-18 R. Alleluia, alleluia. May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ enlighten the eyes of our hearts, so that we may know what is the hope that belongs to our call. R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel MT 22.:1-14 Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people in parables, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast.”’ Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.’ The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. ’ Many are invited, but few are chosen."
The Gospel of the Lord
R. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ
