VIRTUE OF THE MONTH FOR June is Faithfulness
Happy are those who have not seen, yet still believe. John 20:29
Faithfulness As we prepare for the end of the school year, we are focussing this month on the virtue of Faithfulness. As we send our students off for a summer of fun and relaxation and our graduates off into the wider world, we have faith that they will return to us safely to begin another year. The quote from John’s gospel reminds us, “Happy are those who have not seen, yet still believe.” John 20:29 We will encourage our students to continue to put their faith into action by bringing the Gospel spirit into every aspect of their lives. This is how we become true witnesses to Christ, extend the kingdom of God and build a more humane world.
FAITH AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Faithfulness Ways to show Faithfulness: 1. Being a Catholic is founded in faith – Faith in the Lord 2. Remember that it is through our words and actions that our faith becomes evident 3. Let your actions be guided by Centurion’s words to Jesus “Lord I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed” 4. It is our Faith in God that brings comfort to our lives
STUDENT OF THE MONTH Every month St. Helen’s staff recognize students from each class that have demonstrated the virtue of month with certificates. We hope to encourage students to demonstrate their Catholic faith by focusing on the monthly virtues. Students will be recognized on the bulletin board outside the office. The students identified for the virtue of Compassion in the month of May are: Kassiane Ramos Brenda Machado Mikayla Andrade Brianna Marques Kiana Monge Jennifer Silva Caleb Da Silva Cristina Ruiz Villalta
Richard Carvalho Brian Cabral Danielle Rozell Chloe Kretschmann Eric Vilar Pedro Santos Katrina Seborro Cory Santos Daniel Isidoro Jocelyn Guzman Daniel Fernandes Cassandra Nicholas Lima Soraia Cruz Caillou Furtado
APPROPRIATE DRESS CODE The “Appropriate Dress Code” consists of any combination of white and navy blue garments. (i.e., plain white top, navy blue bottom; navy blue top and bottom; no denim). Any sweaters or hoodies to be worn in the school should conform to the blue/white dress code. Thus any articles of clothing with writing/pictures other than the school crest are not
appropriate wear. This also means any articles of clothing in colours other than blue and white are not appropriate. Clothing with stripes and checkers are also not appropriate school wear. The school has begun to contact parents when their children are not adhering to the school dress code. Please ensure that your child is equipped with appropriate wear. SUMMER: In warm months, students should dress modestly. Tops with spaghetti straps, short shorts, torn clothing and jeans are not appropriate wear for school. Students are to be attired properly for a safe physical education class. Running shoes for gym use should not be black soled as they mark up the gym floor. Makeup and jewelry are not appropriate for elementary students. Excessive make‐up is not allowed. All school related activities shall be governed by the dress code. Students are expected to dress in a manner that demonstrates respect for God, self and others. If students are not adhering to the dress code, parents will be notified and students may be requested to go home to change.
SNACK PROGRAM Snack program will end on Thursday, June 7th. Snacks will be served in the afternoon on this day. The program is only possible through the generous time donated by our volunteers: Mrs. Dos Santos; Mrs. Ferreira; Mrs. Pires; Mrs.Costa Mrs. Isabel; Mr. Isabel and Mrs. Didier Thank-you! We would also like to thank Ms. Gimblette’s grade 8 students who assisted in snack bin delivery. Through a community commitment the program was successful once again. The program will resume in the fall.
