Dear Friends, As we begin this new liturgical year, our readings stir us to conversion in preparation for the Lord’s coming. St. Mark will be our primary Evangelist this year, just as St. Matthew was in the year that just passed. His Gospel is marked with unadorned vocabulary and striking frankness. His final word in today’s Gospel is a fittingly concise theme for the Ad-vent season: “Watch!” I once again take this opportunity to thank all of those who have contrib-uted and pledged to our Capital Campaign, “A Living Sacrifice Holy and Acceptable to God.” Though the main/public phase has come to an end, we will continue to provide updates and celebrate milestones as they occur over the next three years, the “collection period.” You will also notice the financial figures associated with the capital cam-paign and our current financial position, as far as debt, are now being published on page 9, together with our offertory and Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) data. We hope this contributes to the spirituality of sacrifice and stewardship in the parish, while bolstering our commitment to fi-nancial transparency. It is still not too late to join the hundreds of families who have given and sacrificed for the good of the local and wider church. Please contact us if you have any questions or would like to make a Campaign pledge. With gratitude for your charity and praying that this Advent season brings you many opportunities for deeper conversion, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, Rev. Eurel Manzano

It is still not too late to join the hundreds of families who have given and sacri-ficed for the good of the local and wider church.

Eurel Manzano

We need your help! Saint Theresa’s asks you to con-sider a wonderful and re-warding way to share your time and gifts. Our parish needs Extraordi-nary Ministers of Holy Com-munion as we serve 3 hospi-tals and 10 assisted living facilities. The patients and residents are unable to join us for Mass, so WE go to

THEM. Each week volunteers visit these facilities, bringing the Eucharist and a copy of our bulletin to each small Catholic population. We need more vol-unteers. We need you! Requirements: Be a practicing Catholic, baptized & confirmed. Time involved: Approximately one hour twice a month; weekend or weekday. Training: Will be conducted as you can join our coordinator as she conducts a Communion Service at one of our facilities. You will see first-hand how to provide this important service, ask questions, and "shadow" one of our volunteers until you feel confi-dent to take on this ministry solo. (You and a part-ner can do this together if you prefer.) Goal: It is our goal to have enough volunteers as-signed to each facility so that the schedule can be spread out and no one is expected to do more than he/she can comfortably cover. We need substitutes as well, so if you can't commit to a regular schedule, please receive the training so you can assist when we need someone to cover. If everyone does some-thing, no one has to do everything. Please call or text Kate Barton at (281) 250-1347 with any questions you may have or to set up a time to join her at a Communion Service. (Her number is also in the bulletin under Pastoral Care).

Thank you!

PRAYER OF SPOUSES FOR EACH OTHER

Lord Jesus, grant that my spouse and I may have a true and understanding love for each other. Grant that we

may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony. May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses and grow from each oth-er’s strengths. Help us to forgive one another’s failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheer-fullness and the spirit of

placing the well-being of one another ahead of self. May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each

passing year. Bring us both ever closer to You through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection, for

You live and reign with the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

THE GATHERING PLACE

Watch this space for more Ministry Spotlights. If you would like to learn more about or get in-volved in any of our ministries, contact us via the website (sugarlandcatholic.com) or by phone. Feel free to contact the ministry coordinator directly. We would love to hear from you!

The Gathering Place is a church ministry provided as a free service for caregivers and

their loved ones who have physical impairments or ad-vanced aging. Caring and loving volunteers provide a break for the caregivers and

families with fun activities for their loved ones to enjoy.

Guests who attend come from the Atria Assisted Living Community, the Sycamores at Sugar Land Assisted Liv-ing Community, and the Saint Theresa parish community by invitation. Most attendees range in age from their eighties to 102. The Gathering Place, begun in 2003, was originally part of a program called “Inter-Faith Care Partners” for church-es of all denominations. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month in the Saint Theresa Community Cen-ter from 10:00 am -1:00 pm. We have different themes each month to make it fun for all. Activities such as chair exercises, spiritual time, enter-tainment, bingo, and lunch follow the theme of the month. The theme for November was "We Give Thanks". We decorated with Fall colors and had a delicious Thanksgiving meal pre-pared by one of our volunteers. Enter-tainment was provided by “The Sun-shiners Band”.

This ministry has been led by parishioner volunteers Kathy Moller and Nanci Neugebauer since 2007. Sixteen other volunteers are involved in some way with the program. We’d love to have you join us!

To learn more, please contact: Kathy Moller: 281-242-5032 or Nanci Neugebauer: 281-494-0328
