Dear Members,

Recently our family celebrated the birthday of a special three-year-old – my grandson. The day and surrounding events brought together key people in his life, memories of his many accomplishments (and I write that quite seriously!),

delicious food and celebratory music, and wishes for many years ahead of joy and success. Birthdays bring us opportunities to focus on a special person in our lives, give thanks that such a person is a part of our own lives, reflect on the past, and anticipate the many adventures that lie ahead. Birthdays are most happily celebrated with friends and families along for the ceremonies.

As New Orleans prepares for a year of Tricentennial celebrations – our city’s 300th birthday – we hope the same ingredients are included in the plans! Friends, family, food, music, memories of achievements, and anticipation for what lies ahead. It’s a time for us to come together in appreciation of our richly diverse and distinctive history – and think about the many ways each of us can contribute to various successes of the future.

At the Louisiana Children’s Museum, we will celebrate our city’s birthday throughout 2018. Whether through interactive heritage festivals, special guided field trips on exhibits that are uniquely “NOLA-inspired,” a Children’s World’s Fair that celebrates our city’s contributions from around the globe, or self-guided exploration discovering fun facts about New Orleans in our hands-on exhibits, we will enjoy twelve months of our own birthday! Plan to come, engage, share stories, and celebrate one of America’s most distinctive cities right here at the museum!

Now, back to my grandchildren… You may know that our future site in City Park is under construction with an anticipated completion date in 2019. We invite you to “watch us grow” by photographing your children with the construction work in the background. Over a 20-month construction process, your kids will grow up as our new children’s museum will be built! Maybe you can even make a flip book with your collection of photographs from start to finish!

With lots of celebrating!
