St Mary's School is a Child Safe School and as such complies with all aspects and legal obligations that relate to The Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (Vic) Dear Parents, With the return of the children on Wednesday there was much excitement around the place and the children are to be congratulated for the manner in which they have settled back into the rou- tine of school life. They seem a lot more settled than previous occasions. Everyone was adapting well to the staggered pickups and things were going well. Then the heavy rain threw everything in to chaos as we had a river of water flowing through the Foundation area. Following the clean up on Wednesday night we needed to relocate FMM to the library. Once again the youngest mem- bers of our school community showed their resilience and very quickly adapted to their new envi- ronment. Thanks also to Miss Mack and the rest of the team for their flexibility and can-do atti- tude. The insurance assessors have been out today and we hope to get things moving as soon as possible. Save the Date As things slowly start to return to normal different groups within the community are starting to organise some social activities. Yesterday I sent out a skoolbag message about an upcoming GAS night for mums from school and coming home with the newsletter is some information about the event planned for 17 th for our SMFASS group. There is also a golf night coming up on 3 rd De- cember. One event that I am planning for our whole community to get together is a Bush Dance/ Picnic on 25 th February next year. The format of the day will be that during the day Billy Tea Bush Band will work with the students, teaching them a number of dances and songs, and then in the evening families are invited to come along for a picnic tea where all family members will be able to join in the fun. I felt that after the two years that we have had we need a little bit of fun together and the chance to meet up with people we may not have seen for a while. Parents and Friends Again due to the pandemic we have had to put all events on hold for the time being but we are looking forward to a big year in 2022. Due to work commitments our incredibly hard working President Rebecca Virgato will need to step down, so I we will be looking for someone else to put up their hand to take over the role. Bec has said that she will support the person taking over. I will get out information about our next meeting. As we have not had a Fiesta for some years, that will be high on the agenda. School Advisory Committee Some time ago I sent out information about the establishment of of a School Advisory Commit- tee. Under the new Governance regulations, all schools are required to have a functioning School Advisory Committee. I have had one parent volunteer to be a part of this group so I am looking for another 4 or 5 parents willing to attend 4-6 meetings per year. If you would be inter- ested, or even interested in learning a little more, please contact me and we can have a chat. Foundation Orientations This year we will be able to have our transition sessions in the classroom which is great news. Last year we were unable to do this and I know that it had an impact on the start of the school year for the students but, more importantly for parents who were unable to make the connections with other community members which is such an important part of the life at St Marys. The first of these sessions will be on 19 th November. Once the children have been dropped off, parents are invited to join me in the hall for a cuppa and a chat about the school, sharing information that will hopefully ensure a smooth transition. Parents are then invited to a gathering on the even- ing of 7 th December to share refreshments, meet the teachers and school leaders and find out a little more about the various groups within our wonderful community. Year 5 Camp. After 2 camps being cancelled our Year 5 students head off to Phillip Island on 15 th November. It will be different sort of experience to what the children are used to but promises to be an adven- ture. I look forward to sharing a great experience with them and the rest of the staff.
