Good afternoon Parents and Caregivers, We have two more weeks left in this term but nothing is slowing down at CSPS. Last Wednesday our teachers took part in a Learning Walk after school, which is a regular occurrence each term. There is a different focus each time we go on a Walk’. Last week the focus was to share and reflect on the change to practice being achieved in Reading since the beginning of 2018. This was in relation to looking at what evidence exists that is making a difference to student learning. Whole School Parent Meeting Day Student Led Conferences & PLP Target Meetings with families @CSPS We had approximately 202 families join us last Friday for the SLCs and we are still counting as teachers are still taking bookings. I have been looking for the right words to describe the success of this event but I cant go past Ms Hutchinsons enthusiastic comments when she told me, Fridays Student Led Conferenceswere a fantastic opportunity for the most important assets in our school (our amazing students) to be front and centre, leading a conversation about their learning goals, work samples and progress data. I was inspired by the confidence and competence with which our students were able to take ownership of their learning goals and engage the support of their families and teachers as they work towards achieving their targets. All parents and students who attended should be congratulated on the positive contribution they have made to our learning community. I also asked a few students in Ms Hutchinsons class what they thought of the Student Led Conferencesand this is what they said: Ethan - Kids have a privilege to be able to run something. Tayla - Its OK to share. Ava - Its amazing that Mum and Dad could come in and share my work. Liam - I feel proud that my parents came in to share my work. Tyrese - When parents have a question they can ask the children and teachers to give them an answer to celebrate our successes. 12 September 2018 Term 3, Week 8 Current Enrolment: 400 Message from the Assistant Principal Casuarina Street, Katherine East NT 0853 Email: [email protected] Phone: 08 8973 3800 Key Dates for your diary - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 12-14th September BEAT 2018 Ignite! Good afternoon Parents and Caregivers,

We have two more weeks left in this term but nothing is slowing down at CSPS.

Last Wednesday our teachers took part in a Learning Walk after school, which is a

regular occurrence each term. There is a different focus each time we go on a

‘Walk’. Last week the focus was to share and reflect on the change to practice

being achieved in Reading since the beginning of 2018. This was in relation to

looking at what evidence exists that is making a difference to student learning.

Whole School Parent Meeting Day Student Led Conferences & PLP Target Meetings with families @CSPS

We had approximately 202 families join us last Friday for the SLC’s and we are still counting as teachers are still taking bookings.

I have been looking for the right words to describe the success of this event but I can’t go past Ms Hutchinson’s enthusiastic comments when she told me, “Friday’s Student Led Conferences” were a fantastic opportunity for the most important assets in our school (our amazing students) to be front and centre, leading a conversation about their learning goals, work samples and progress data.

I was inspired by the confidence and competence with which our students were able to take ownership of their learning goals and engage the support of their families and teachers as they work towards achieving their targets.

All parents and students who attended should be congratulated on the positive contribution they have made to our learning community.

I also asked a few students in Ms Hutchinson’s class what they thought of the “Student Led Conferences” and this is what they said:

Ethan - Kids have a privilege to be able to run something.

Tayla - It’s OK to share.

Ava - It’s amazing that Mum and Dad could come in and share my work.

Liam - I feel proud that my parents came in to share my work.

Tyrese - When parents have a question they can ask the children and teachers to give

them an answer to celebrate our successes.

WE HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS!

CSPS would like to WELCOME to the DSTA Team - Mary Patterson!

Mary will be working alongside Melinda to support and assist our 132 Defence children within the

school. Mary will be providing support to children in the classrooms as well as running Aussie Club.

Aussie Club is occurring 3 lunch times a week and is an opportunity for students to come and play

games and do art and craft activities but is also a great way for us to touch base with students

outside the classroom.

As the Defence School Transition Aides (DSTA) @ CSPS, our role involves making the transition

from school to school as smooth as possible for our student's and to assist with any concerns

regarding educational, emotional or social needs of student's. This is important with families leaving

their postings at the end of this year.
