The Importance of the WorkKeys Assessment The ACT WorkKeys exams are the foundation of the National Career Readiness System. Students can earn a National Career Readiness Certificates by taking three WorkKeys exams. The three exams include: Applied Mathematics, Locating Informa-tion, and Reading for Information. Based on scores, students earned leveled certifi-cates of Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze. The ACT WorkKeys estimates that people scoring at the Bronze level qualify for approximately 35% of the jobs profiled by WorkKeys. A Silver score indicates skills for approximately 65% of those jobs pro-filed, and Gold indicates skills for 90% of the jobs.

States including Indiana use WorkKeys to prepare students for the workforce. The WorkKeys assessment provides great information no matter the career or college a student may choose after high school.

Upcoming Dates

On January 8th, Girl’s and Boy’s Basketball will be hosting the Coaches vs. Cancer Night at HHS. We will be raising funds for the American Can-cer Society with an array of activities. One activity is a Tribute Video which will be displayed on our big screen and highlight those who have been affected by cancer (past and present). For a $5 donation, we will include your loved ones picture and any other information you choose. Please come out and support the Brickies and raise money for a great cause! Questions? The senior students for the PLTW Biomedical Science course set out to research and determine the most impending limitations most U.S ER's face today and develop strategies and innovations to overcome these. As part of

their process, they toured St. Mary's Medical Center Emergency Room and learned first hand from hospital personnel. They also pre-sented specific scenarios and layouts to the Hobart EMT class to draw from their experiences in the ER. The next phase was to create a computer gener-ated blueprint with the help of Mr. Vermeulen's PLTW- Civil Engineering and Architecture students. The two classes communicated via Google Docs to establish parameters and necessary equipment. The CEA students were able to put their new skills with Autodesk Revit, a computer modeling program, to

design each room and turn an idea into an actual visual reality.

Acceptance Wall

Check out the windows of the Guidance Office to see which Senior Brickies have been accepted to colleges! To join the wall, we are asking any senior to bring in proof of acceptance to a college or university, proof of signing with the military, or proof of joining a trade/apprenticeship program after high school! Seniors can submit multiple acceptance letters!

Local Scholarship Book

The Local Scholarship Book will be available to students early in December and is due back to Guidance no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, January 11th! This book includes multiple scholarships only available to HHS Seniors! Come check it out!

Financial Aid Night

Hobart High School will host a Financial Aid Night for Seniors and their parents on Thursday, January 31st at 6 p.m. in the Great Hall ! Valuable information will be discussed concerning filling out the FAFSA and important deadlines for receiving financial aid for college! Contact the Guidance Office with questions!

College Goal Sunday

Save the Date for College Goal Sunday! This free event is open to seniors and their families to get more information and help filling out the FAFSA! You will be able to file it online, and Spanish-speaking interpreters will be available! The date is Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. and will be held at the following locations: Academic Learning Center in Crown Point, Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Ivy Tech Community College in Valparaiso, and Purdue Calumet in Hammond.
