FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SURPRISE! SURPRISE! NO ONE KNOWS THE NUMBERS

Hoboken, N.J. – April 14, 2009 – Ryn Melberg, candidate for mayor of Hoboken, responded today to comments made at Tuesday’s press conference by Mayor David Roberts. The mayor admitted that the reported property tax increase that was first reported was in error.

“How is it possible that our elected politicians still didn’t know the actual amount of the increase? They don’t know what budget is! Our politicians don’t know what anything costs. Now the mayor is having a press conference saying he doesn’t know what the property tax is. How is that possible?” she asked. “The mayor doesn’t know. The city council doesn’t know. Who does?”

“The City Council is debating and voting on budgets they don’t understand,” said Ms. Melberg, “and then proudly announcing their yea or nay vote! If they don’t have the correct numbers or don’t understand the process, how can they debate anything?”

“Your next tax bill will probably be another mystery,” she added. “This is why we cannot afford our next mayor to be another politician without a real understanding of budgets and finance.”

An experienced financial manager for more than 15 years, Ms. Melberg has led large-scale business transformations and consolidations at leading companies, including American Express, JP Morgan Chase and Credit Suisse. She has the skills, experience, judgment and compassion to get Hoboken’s financial house in order.

About Ryn Melberg It’s time to take the business of our city seriously. It’s time to Hire Ryn Melberg for Mayor. Hoboken is in the worst financial shape in twenty years. We have allowed the current Mayor and City Council to spend far more money than we have, resulting in devastating deficits and a State takeover of our finances and budget. Because of this, the state finance board has raised our taxes 47% this year. And, unless we do something now, they will go up again. Continued on next page…

Meanwhile, people are afraid of losing their homes, others are struggling to keep their businesses and our infrastructure is crumbling.

With our current international recession, we cannot expect a bailout from the Federal or State government. We have to develop new sources of income and streamline our government so it is workable and affordable. This year, we have to hire a Mayor who will get our economic house in order while protecting our neighbors – seniors, working families and locally-owned businesses.

There is only one candidate in this race who has the financial management skills and experience to do this job. That candidate is Ryn Melberg. For information, visit www. HireRynForMayor.com or email: [email protected].
