Cloudmark is a global provider of carrier-grade messaging infrastructure and security solutions. Their comprehensive anti-spam, anti-phishing, and anti-virus solutions have been implemented by ISP’s, Mobile Network Operations, Social Media Providers, and millions of desktop users around the world.

Vice President of Operations Lead the Hosted Infrastructure, Applications, IT, and NOC teams. Responsible for all aspects of the company’s infrastructure, systems, hosting, IT, and related hiring, budgeting, and procurement.

of monitoring points to detect and alert on almost any type of issue. Developed US on-call rotation and built French-based NOC team to provide 24/7 coverage for all systems

while minimizing employee burnout.

Pacific Magtron, Milpitas, CA (May 2003-April 2004)

Pacific Magtron was a company with several businesses, namely computer hardware distribution to resellers and direct sales to end-users via ecommerce.

Senior Network Administrator/Engineer/Manager Reported directly to CEO for all issues related to IT. Responsibilities included ecommerce servers, LAN servers, all network equipment, and managing desktop support technician including project and time management.

Established redundant network using dual Nokia IP650 Checkpoint firewalls in a distributed solution, running VRRP for failover, and enterprise-class Cisco switches (4006 and 6509) with Layer 3 capabilities, using HSRP for failover.

Configured 7206VX router on the perimeter (with Cisco 2621 as backup) for corporate-wide internet traffic. Redesigned data links to utilize multiple T1’s from different providers, giving the company better resilience

to network outages due to the ability to re-reroute traffic over either link. Optimized Cisco VPN3000 implementation by reorganizing groups, changing authentication procedures, and

fixing security holes. Installed UPS devices (APC Matrix 5000, 3000, SmartUPS 2200) for power backup for all servers and

network devices, including enabling network communications for controlled shutdown during major power outages.

Completely re-configured Active Directory and Exchange to be more logical and secure, including restructuring all OU’s and Group Policies, repositioning all servers, and instituting Exchange Front-End/Back-End topology.

Utilizing MRTG, RRDTool, Servers Alive, Analog, and Report Magic, setup a full web-based network logging/monitoring environment that watched uptime, kept track of server/network performance, and analyzed ecommerce traffic.

Setup the full Symantec suite of products to protect the SMTP gateway, Exchange mail servers, file servers and all desktops.

Reconfigured Exchange 2000 to a two-node cluster configuration with a shared storage array.

SQL Server 2000 also installed in two-node cluster configuration, which served as the central databases for the company’s product and sales data.

Created centralized SUS server to control Windows patch management for the organization on all servers and desktops. Used OU’s and group policies to force all members of the domain into installing automatic windows update software and control update/reboot schedules.

Created a secured wireless network using Cisco 1100 802.11B access point, various wireless clients, and WPA with RADIUS, Active Directory, TKIP, and X.509 certificates.

Implemented HP OpenView Data Storage Protector, with totally reworked schedules for tape rotation and maximum backup availability.

MarketFirst/Pivotal, Mountain View, CA (November 2000-April 2003) MarketFirst was the premier enterprise software solution for e-marketing campaigns, including reporting and analytics. They

were acquired by Pivotal in 2002.

Senior Network Administrator/Engineer/Manager Worked directly for CIO as the senior member of the networking/systems administration team. Delegated projects to other admins and desktop personnel.

Rebuilt entire NT/2000/Solaris network consisting of over 30 servers (LAN, WAN, and DMZ), 3 NT Domains, Exchange, VPN, DNS, WINS, NAS, and Checkpoint Firewall.

Completed Active Directory/Exchange 2000 migration in the Enterprise utilizing swing upgrades to minimize downtime.

Redesigned server room, assembled racks, and optimized space usage and appearance. Used Dell Powervault tape library and Backup Exec to keep routine backups, sending tapes offsite in routine

schedule. Extensive email tuning for the enterprise, implemented SMTP-relay server using FreeBSD and Postfix,

effectively rate-limiting email to the exchange servers when blasts of traffic from our hosted software (1,000,000+ emails) would get misdirected to internal email addresses due to user error.

Instituted corporate email security policies including anti-virus and content/extension blocking. Installed and administered various types of enterprise software, including Softrax Financial and Altiris

Express inventory management. Setup Nortel VPN solution using Contivity platform, and built customized remote connectivity software for all

end users, using Nortel VPN software (56 bit DES), AT&T’s global dialup solution, and RADIUS

authentication on the back end. Setup point-to-point T1’s between offices using Cisco equipment and dynamic routing using EIGRP, as well

as nailed up VPN tunnels between branch offices using Nortel and Sonicwall equipment. Setup and maintained numerous VLAN’s in corporate office on Cisco 4000 and 3500 platforms with VTP and

STP to segment departmental network traffic. Extensive experience locking down IIS web servers to prevent malicious use. Administered Sun Solaris systems and other UNIX flavors, with Checkpoint firewall on Solaris protecting the

enterprise in fail-over configuration. Implemented Snort IDS with MySQL, Acid, Apache, and PHP to log suspicious traffic on the network. Isolated network problems and charted peak network usage times. Kept up-to-date Visio diagrams at all times of network architecture, email flow, and network security

breakdown. Worked on implementation of SecureID/ACE Server for two-factor authentication.

Unitek, Fremont, CA (February 2000-October 2000)

Unitek is one of the top IT training/certification companies in the Bay Area, as well as a noted provider of IT Consulting.

Network Administrator/Engineer/Consultant Top network and systems consultant and contractor. Was recognized on numerous occasions for stellar performance and excellent consulting, and given increased responsibility and choice of contracts. While working several contracts at various locations, I had a chance to setup, maintain, and work with many types of hardware and software. Also tested and received certifications for Microsoft products in any spare time.

Contract - Network Administrator/Engineer – Credit Union Software Company – Contract Duration – 4 months Maintained network of 8 VLAN’s, 20 Servers, Exchange, DNS, WINS, SQL, Cisco PIX 514, and Cisco 3600

routers and 2900 switches. Walked into dire situation with no stable infrastructure or documentation of the network. Rebuilt many NT/2000 servers. Maintained UNIX mainframe servers.

Configured new IP numbering scheme, due to company using all public IP addresses in a NAT environment. Reconfigured Livingston and Bay Networks routers including new access lists, routes, and RIP. Setup external DNS server using NetBSD and BIND with zone files written by hand for referencing multiple

domains. Reconfigured and re-wrote rules on PIX. Documented entire network and server environment in Visio. At end of contract, was handed kind letter of recommendation from the manager in appreciation of services.

Contract – Network Administrator/Manager – HR Benefits Company – Contract Duration – 3 months

Helped medium sized business maintain stable network on shoe-string budget. Initially brought in as emergency network support, shortly promoted to full IT Management duties. Implemented Nortel Contivity VPN with RADIUS authentication. Troubleshoot VPN connectivity issues for employees traveling around the world including Europe, Israel,

and Asia. Rebuilt Exchange 5.5 for the organization, implemented internal DNS, built DMZ for testing applications, and

setup and maintained Sonicwall Firewall. Completed IP renumbering scheme after changing ISP and instituting NAT. Implemented small VLAN’s using 3com SuperStack switches to help with routing and access policies. Worked many long hours and nights on optimizing environment for 24x7 uptime.

Internal Network Engineering and other various contracts – Unitek

Implemented DNS behind MS Proxy Server to allow for greater network functionality. Setup Red Creek Ravlin VPN devices for employees and other companies. Worked various disaster recovery contracts, in which I was given a few hours to have Exchange servers

restored and/or complete domains back up and running.

Beyond.com, Santa Clara, CA (February 1998-January 2000) Beyond.com was the leading online eStore hosting solution and software store, offering physical delivery or online download.

Network Administrator Experience in managing large numbers of servers, and keeping a network running with 24x7 uptime. Attained position of Network Administrator shortly after being promoted to IS Technician Lead. Also Delegated tasks among 6 desktop support personnel in 2 offices.

Managed approximately 50 servers, mostly Windows NT. Implemented and maintained internal DNS, WINS, NT Domains, and multiple sites connected via point-to-

point T1.

Responsible for all server upgrades, administration of trust relationships, performance monitoring, Exchange 5.5, print services, intra-site replication and any needed security enhancements.

During time of service, helped the company move on 3 separate occasions, and on one of those occasions rebuilt entire domain of multiple sites, servers, and 400+ nodes and worked with the rest of IT to rejoin every machine to the new domain and make sure everything was seamless, in one weekend.

Maintained backups using Dell Powervault tape libraries and Backup Exec 7.0, backing up multiple file servers.
