RUS - Research and User Support for Sentinel Core Products A new fleet of satellites developed by ESA for the European Commission, the Sentinels, has begun in 2014 with Sentinel-1a systematic acquisition of Earth Observation data over the globe. Acquisitions will continue for the next decades, with follow-on missions of existing satellites and new satellites with different observation capabilities. Technological and knowledge issues are partially preventing user's uptake of such large volume of data.
RUS provides a free and open scalable platform in a powerful computing environment, hosting a suite of open source toolboxes pre-installed on virtual machines, to handle and process data derived from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites constellation.

RUS SERVICE LEVELS The RUS Service has been designed to accommodate user needs and provide the appropriate technical and scientific support and ICT resources on 3 levels:
Basic support service (Level A)
• Provide Virtual Machines (VMs) with required software tools
• Provide and give access to Sentinel Core Products
• Make data available on virtual machine environments on RUS ICT resources
Development support service (Level B)
• Provide and configure VMs to facilitate the algorithm / early prototype development and processing tests
• Support for algorithm / early prototype test, non-regression and performance improvement
• Provide access to processing resources and components for algorithm development and testing
Processing support service (Level C)
• Provide access to RUS ICT resources using Platform as a Service (PaaS), enabling data processing and collection of results
• Monitor the performance of the processing
• As needed, schedule processing tasks on behalf of the user
• Support for user algorithm validation and testing
