Christmas 2017 Well.....its almost here. I still have one trip out to grab two or three more gifts and lots of wrapping too. I forgot the budget this year, my fault and not Sara's. As dismal as this may sound, it’s still one of my favorite times of the year, and I'm looking for- ward to it. I can't wait to see my kids open their gifts on Monday morning. Now that they are get- ting older and in middle school, the gifts are getting bigger and more expensive. And then to turn around again a week lat- er and see my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews in Waverly. This year, I've tried to focus on the real reason of Christmas, the birth of the Christ Child, Jesus. The gifts were in celebration of that birth, and we give them to each other in celebration. Christmas Memories I remember Christmases as a child with my mom playing pi- ano, lots of presents under the tree all perfectly wrapped, the Christmas sacks from church filled with peanuts in the shell, apples, oranges and candy treats. I remember going to the Tuil and Kampman family Christmas gatherings in Allison. I was al- ways anxious and excited, like most kids at this time of year. My three younger siblings and I would wake up around 5 a.m. and an hour later we usually had successfully gotten mom and dad awake too. Through my youth and adulthood, I've tried to keep that enthusiasm with me through every Christmas season. My mom reminds me every year how when I was a child, I would climb up to look at her family manger scene. I wanted to take the small crafted, glass baby Jesus out of the manger. She al- lowed this, but only if I would sit still, quiet and hold it carefully in my hand. After all, the piece like all others were important to the set. I would also move the char- acter Joseph away from his des- ignated spot, beside Mary, and replace Joeseph with the various wise men. Mom was not enter- tained by this fact. At this time of year, I also remember family members and friends who have passed away. I think I miss them a little more this year, especially my grandparents. I remember working at Belden Jewelers and retail during the busiest season of the year. It was a blast helping cus- tomers pick out great gifts for the important people on their shopping lists. There was no on- line shopping back then. After college, I was a shopping center marketing manager, and I would begin planning for the season in September. It was a ton of fun seeing customers with packages and the Christmas music playing throughout the shopping center corridors. Christmas 2017Well.....its almost here. I still

have one trip out to grab two or three more gifts and lots of wrapping too. I forgot the budget this year, my fault and not Sara's. As dismal as this may sound, it’s still one of my favorite times of the year, and I'm looking for-ward to it. I can't wait to see my kids open their gifts on Monday morning. Now that they are get-ting older and in middle school, the gifts are getting bigger and more expensive. And then to turn around again a week lat-er and see my parents, siblings, nieces and nephews in Waverly. This year, I've tried to focus on the real reason of Christmas, the birth of the Christ Child, Jesus. The gifts were in celebration of that birth, and we give them to each other in celebration.

Christmas MemoriesI remember Christmases as a

child with my mom playing pi-ano, lots of presents under the tree all perfectly wrapped, the Christmas sacks from church filled with peanuts in the shell, apples, oranges and candy treats.

I remember going to the Tuil and Kampman family Christmas gatherings in Allison. I was al-ways anxious and excited, like most kids at this time of year. My three younger siblings and I would wake up around 5 a.m. and an hour later we usually had successfully gotten mom and dad awake too. Through my youth and adulthood, I've tried

to keep that enthusiasm with me through every Christmas season. My mom reminds me every year how when I was a child, I would climb up to look at her family manger scene. I wanted to take the small crafted, glass baby Jesus out of the manger. She al-lowed this, but only if I would sit still, quiet and hold it carefully in my hand. After all, the piece like all others were important to the set. I would also move the char-acter Joseph away from his des-ignated spot, beside Mary, and replace Joeseph with the various wise men. Mom was not enter-tained by this fact. At this time of year, I also remember family members and friends who have passed away. I think I miss them a little more this year, especially my grandparents.

I remember working at Belden Jewelers and retail during the busiest season of the year. It was a blast helping cus-tomers pick out great gifts for the important people on their shopping lists. There was no on-line shopping back then. After college, I was a shopping center marketing manager, and I would begin planning for the season in September. It was a ton of fun seeing customers with packages and the Christmas music playing throughout the shopping center corridors. We have two addition-al sections in the paper this Dec. 21, and we hope you enjoy this special newspaper and the sec-tions inside.

Christmas WishTo All our Readers and Friends.I wish all of you a very Mer-

ry Christmas and a season filled with good things, too. Your con-tinued support of our newspa-pers in Butler, Grundy and Har-din Counties are appreciated all year long. In a way, that's like a Christmas gift every day.
