Running MSOPIT for Assignment #6
These Slides are Base on MS3D version 4.6 which was current in Sept. of 2009
Note – These slides contain concepts also found in Mintec training courses. The slides contain screen shots taken from the program MineSight produced by Mintec Inc.
Inputing MSOPIT Screens
This must identify the name of yourBlock model that has been preparedFor MSOPIT
These screens can be left as is
Picking Your Surface File
This one must identify theName of the file 13 youPrepared for MSOPIT
These fields can all be left as 0For now. 0 refers to the undisturbedSurface which is where anUltimate pit starts from.
Have the Computer Calculate the Value of Each Block
Left click on the calculate value radioButton
For the output report on block valueIntervals a number of 5000 works wellFor the copper moly mine beingConsidered.
Tell Which Variable In the Block Model Says How Much of the Block is Made
of RockPick the variableThat containsThe information
These are optionalInputs – Leave themalone
Set Minimum Value for Rock to be Processed
The values shown here workOk for output parameters except
You need to put in the minimumValue that a block must havePer ton to break even onProcessing costs. This mayRequire some calculation,Estimation, or picking on yourPart.
Input the Economic Parameters for the Mill
This is yourMill processCost(comes fromYourAssignmentAnd mayDiffer fromThat shownHere)
Continuing the Mill Input
This is whereYour oreMining cost/tonneGoes and yourOre specificGravity. (theseValues comeFrom yourAssignment andMay differ fromThe illustrationValues here)
Input the Cu and Mo Values
Copper andMoly valuesShould be theValue inConcentrate form.
These valuesAre calculatedFrom the copperAnd moly priceLess the costTo produce aFinished product. For Copper this isCopper cost minusThe cost ofSmelting andRefining.
Your values may differFrom those shown here
Input Your Recoveries
This is thePercentOf copper andMoly recoveryAt the mill. The numbersTo use areProvided inYour assignmentAnd may differFrom the valuesShown here.
Input Other Data as Shown Here
Left clickapply
Input for Your Pad LeachYour miningAndProcessingAnd specificGravity valuesCome fromYour assignmentAnd may differFrom theExample.
Your recoveryAlso comesFrom yourassignment
Input the Copper Price
Copper price isThe value ofCopper inSolution. It isThe sellingPrice of copperMinus the costOf solventExtraction andElectrowinningGiven in theAssignment.(Your value mayDiffer from thatShown here)
Input the Dump Leach Screen
Click applyWhen done
Input the Worthless Dump Screen
Leave the Costs and Discounting Screen Alone
This screen is used for mining whole benchesFrom the top down as in a quarry. By leavingThe factor equal to 0 the program knowsYou are not executing this option.
Enter Your Ultimate Pit Slope
Pick a constant slope for thisAssignment
Enter the over-all slope as indicatedIn your assignment (your value myDiffer from the one shown in theExample).
Pick Learch-Grossman for the Method of Finding the Ultimate Pit
Pick base which meansShow me one pit based onThe constraints andEconomics given.
Pick Learch-Grossman fromThe drop down menu
Accept the other defaultsOn the page.
Tell the Computer Which Surface to Put the Pit Surface Out to.
The 0 surface is the undisturbedPit surface. The input hereSelected pit 1 for the ultimate pitSurface, but you know in theNext assignment you will create6 stage pits so you can put theOutput on surface 7 if you want.
You can acceptThe defaults onEverything else.
Leave the Audit Screen As Is
Set My Output Options
Each block of ore will go to aDestination – identify the variableIn your block model where theDestination is to go. (This willDepend on the names you gaveTo variables in your block model)
Do the same thing with where youWant info to go on value of eachBlock and the value per ton of theRock it contains.
Give Directions for the Report
Pick a headline for the reportOutput
Pick a file extension for the output(this enables you to keep a bunchOf reports without over-writing)
Tell The Computer to Run the Routine
Left click file
Pick runprocedure
After the Procedure Runs Set Up the Display
Create aNew modelView withThe datamanager
It Asks for a Name for the Model View
It Also Wants Me to Pick My Project Control File (my file 10)
It Wants to Know What File I Want I Model View for
I’m want myFile 13 so ICan see myFinished pitSurface.
Left click theFile
Then left clickOk
I’m Going to Select Making Model Views for All My Surfaces
Now I’ll Open My Model View to See that Final Pit Surface
I pick my surface(for me I outputThe surface toPit 1 but youMight havePicked pit 7 orSome otherSurface)
I right click toPop up a menuAnd then ILeft click onOpen.
Here is My Surface
I have colorsSet for differentElevation butMy elevationColors look realScrewy.
I’m Going to Debug that Color Mess
For the surfaceI’m workingRight click toPop up the menu
Then left click onproperties
Here Is My Problem
I’m displayingMy final pitSurface but myColor cut-offsAre based onTopog which isMy originalUndisturbedSurface.
Left click theBlue list box(I’m going toPick the rightSurface to baseMy color codingOff).
Up Comes My List of Surfaces
Since I’m tryingTo display thePit 1 surface,I point and leftClick pit 1
Then I will leftClick Ok
Now That Looks More Like It
Now I’mManeuver And take myScreen shotsFor theAssignment.
To Run My Floating Cone I Need to Go to the Design Strategy Screen
I pick floating cone from theDrop down menu
I put in a reasonableMinimum size for the pitBottom (if it makes aPointy bottom pit I’ll haveA tough time getting myTruck in there)
I’ll also want to change some of my outputHeadings and also the report extension so myNew run does not over-write my Learch-Grossman report (because I have to turn inBoth reports)
Eventually I’ll Also Have to Try the Run the Costs Increasing as the Pit gets
Deeper
Go to costs and discounting andCheck costs vary by bench
Note one more screen comes to life(is not grayed out)
Go to That New Screen
Note I have separate cost increases for Ore and Waste(not surprising since we may very well be using different sizedTrucks going to different destinations)
Set the Range of Benches to Be Affected
Select the range of benches to be affected. (In this case we willSelect the full range of benches)
Set How Much Extra Cost We Have at the Start of the Range
In our case we have no initial extra cost so we choose zero. (IfI were doing something liking adding 3 cents per bench downTo bench 20 and then I wanted to starting adding 5 cents perBench after that I would have to have an extra 60 cents to startWith when I started with bench 21)
Set the Cost Increase Per Bench I Go Down
Now I put in the cost increase I get for each bench I getDeeper.
If I Wanted to Have Different Rate of Cost Increase for Different Bench Intervals I could Left Click Add to put in a
new interval
Of course I won’t be doing that for this assignment
