. . . confront many challenges while negotiating the passage from adolescence to adulthood.

Parenting is a tough job with no easy answers.

Whether you are an adolescent, overwhelmed by family troubles, on the run or considering it, OR a parent wondering where to find help for your daughter or son, you are not alone. Many teens and their parents are struggling with similar issues. The LSS Runaway & YouthServices program is here to help.

24-HOUR HELPLINE: This toll-free line is a resource for runaways, other teens, parents, relatives and friends needing support and information.

EMERGENCY SHELTER: Licensed, volunteer families provide a safe and caring environment for teens in crisis. With parental consent, teens may be placed in a temporary emergency shelter home.

YOUTH OUTREACH SERVICES: Askingfor help is often difficult for teens. Therefore, we have street outreach teams who connect with youth in places they typically congregate. This is our way of communicating to them that we care about their safety and well-being.

FAMILY MEDIATION OR COUNSELING:Free, confidential and voluntary short term mediation is available to youth and their families to help resolve conflict.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: Informational presentations, workshops or groups can be provided to schools, community organizations, churches and businesses. These are free of charge or low cost and cover a variety of topics.

Runaway & Youth Services is a program of Lutheran Social Services (LSS). It works to improve the network of support to both youth and their families through confidential and voluntary crisis intervention and referral services. Most services are offered free or for a minimal fee.

Each year, nearly 30,000 Wisconsin families are confronted with a crisis - a teen runaway. Teens run away from home for a variety of reasons. The most common is unresolved conflict caused by misunderstandings, lack of communication and differences over roles, rules and expectations at home. We can help you and your family through these difficult times.
