Feature Planning: General

• Conference support– A way to collect MIRCdocuments from anywhere in the MIRC

community and organize them for easy review during a clinical conference or presentation.

• Improve query UI: (2-level query / automatic site selection / …)

– Improve the query page presentation and functionality.• Background color request on query page

– Allow a user to specify the background color for documents that are displayed from the query results list, providing light or dark background selection for the displayed document.

• Implement an improved query results page– Support sort order in query results.

Feature Planning: Author Service

• Keywords feature – Connect annotations, keywords, and RadLex.

• Support videos and document references – Add other image types, including standard video and also DICOM image

sequences and stacks. Add Author Service support for hyperlinks to these and other document types within the body of a MIRCdocument.

• Support SR and KOS documents in Author Service– Allow SR and KOS documents to be parsed and text to be inserted in

the author service editor. Automatically insert referenced images into the document, fetching them from the personal file cabinet (if present in the cabinet) or the shared file cabinet.

• Improve template management– Automatic installation of templates. Ability to save templates from the

Author Service editor.

Feature Planning: File Service

• Support SR and KOS documents– Allow SR and KOS objects to be recognized and stored as files.

• Support IHE teaching file export profile– Implement the TFCTE Integration Profile

• Store user-specific Author Service templates– Allow users to store their own author service templates in their

file cabinets for use in creating new MIRCdocuments. These templates would be in addition to the system-wide defaults.

• Support Enhanced DICOM datasets • Support Encapsulated Pixel Data images• Double-click view of an individual file

– Download a double-clicked file with appropriate Content-Type.

Feature Planning: Site Admin

• Query service admin– Support web-based configuration of the mirc.xml file, including

managing the storage service list and the proxy server parameters.

• Server list configuration tool– A function allowing administrators to add and delete storage

services from the list that the query service can search. This function would also allow the administrator to import storage service lists from other query services in the community.

• Search input queue– Support query searches of the input queue to allow reviewers to

find documents to review.

Feature Planning: Clinical Trials

• Implement central remapper– Add a networked remapper to the DICOM service to provide a single

remapper for a trial. Extend the IdTable class to support both local and central remapping calls.

• Support SR and KOS documents in research datasets– Recognize SR and KOS SOP Class UIDs in the DICOM service and

enable metadata retrieval as part of the template.• Support raw data in research datasets

– Recognize unknown SOP Class UIDs in the DICOM service and support referencing the objects in the template.

• Anonymize option for HttpImportService– Allow patient re-identification at the principal investigator site to support

NCI database collection.

Feature Planning: Clinical Trials

• Add WW/WL level for DICOM images with missing info• Anonymizer external interface for MPI access

– Provide a way for the anonymizer to access an external MPI service for determining remapping values.

• DICOM Q/R SCP– Implement a DICOM query/retrieve SCP to allow DICOM workstations to access

all DICOM objects on the storage service.• Implement an exchange server

– Create an exchange server application for use by clinical trials where the principal investigator site must be behind a firewall. This application could also be used within an institution that has multiple networks and security constraints that prevent data transfers that are necessary for the acquisition of research datasets.

• Filter phantom studies in DicomExportService– Recognize phantom studies and don’t forward them to keep the receiving

systems clean. Possibly filter on patient name.

Feature Planning: Infrastructure

• Improve MIRCqueryresult for relevance– Provide a mechanism for returning query results on the basis of the

expected relevance or quality of match.• Implement MIRC XML namespace

– Support multiple namespaces to keep clinical trials metadata from colliding with MIRC schema elements.

• Implement database index mechanism – Technical issue with consequences for other areas (e.g. user

authentication).• Multi-browser support

– Test and correct all the code with other popular browsers than IE.• DICOM viewer

– Select a DICOM viewer to distribute with the MIRC software so DICOM images can be displayed in documents and WW/WL tools can be used.

Feature Planning: Infrastructure

• Implement database realm for users– Provide better security for usernames and passwords and remove the

restriction that the server must be restarted to enable changes in user credentials.

• Implement proxy server support in query service– Allow a query service that is behind a proxy server to query storage

services that are outside the proxy server.• Poll for active servers

– Make query services poll their storage service list to determine which services are currently active, disabling selection of the inactive ones.

• Specify the storage service list schema– Standardize the way the storage service list can be communicated

between MIRC query services. Support hiding private services.

Feature Planning: Infrastructure

• Standardize options when clicking images– Follow link; show annotation; DICOM header dump

• DICOM Q/R SCU– Implement a DICOM Q/R SCU to allow a user to view a PACS through

the web server.• Convert to UTF-8 in all files

– Support Far Eastern character sets.• Language-independent query fields

– Make it possible for queries in one language to find documents written in another.

• Support <show …> in tab display– Technical template extension.

• Implement MIRCdocument UID– Provide UID for each MIRCdocument to allow use in CME.

• Implement CME Credit element– Extend MIRCdocument schema to allow display of CME credit value in query

results. This task should be deferred until an interface to an external CME system is required.

• Implement CME external interface– Requires CME systems to publish an interface specification first.

• Counter for query page accesses– Keep track of the number of times a query service has been accessed and show

it on the query page.• Query service authentication

– Provide a way to restrict who can query a MIRC site.• User passport

– Provide a way for authenticated users who initiate a query on a query service to have their credentials passed to the selected storage services, allowing the storage services to restrict the query results to those documents that the user is authorized to access.

• SCORM export– Implement SCORM exporting in the XML Server

• Simplify the installer– Remove all the questions from the installer and make it easier to

configure the system via a Query Service Admin page..• ACR code service

– An ACR code browser for the MIRC site, allowing a user to navigate all the ACR codes and find codes that correspond to specific anatomy and pathology.

• Log accesses to software downloads– Record who downloads the MIRC software from the RSNA MIRC site.

• Support favicons– Modify MIRCdocument.xsl and mirc.xsl to support a specialized IE icon

for MIRCdocuments.
