IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RIFAPENTINE (RPT) AND ISONIAZID (INH)

DESCRIPTION: Rifapentine (RPT) and Isoniazid (INH) are medications that kill the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB).

DOSAGE: The nurse will tell you how to take these medications. The number of pills you will take depends on your weight. The treatment will last for 12 weeks.

SIDE EFFECTS: Most people do not have side effects from RPT or INH, but IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SIDE EFFECTS, STOP TAKING RPT AND INH AND CALL THE TB CLINIC (TELEPHONE NUMBER 753-5162)! If the TB clinic is closed, call your personal doctor instead.

1. Dizziness and headaches that last for more than a day or two.2. A rash on your skin or itching that lasts for more than a day or two.3. Urine that is a red-brown or red-orange color.4. Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet that lasts for more than a day or two.5. Nausea and vomiting that last for more than a day or two.6. Fatigue or weakness that lasts for more than a day or two.7. Joint pain or abdominal pain.8. Unexplained loss of appetite (not wanting to eat).9. Yellowing of the skin or the white part of your eyes.10.Light colored stool (white or grey color).11.Temperature of over 100°F that lasts for more than 3 days and has an unknown cause.

PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING WOMEN: Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers may still take RPT and INH, but it is important to tell the nurse if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Please tell the nurse if you have problems with your liver! Please tell the nurse if you are taking any medications! Do not drink alcohol while taking RPT or INH! Remove soft contact lenses during treatment, these medications may discolor them. Taking these medications with food may help prevent nausea and vomiting. RPT may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills which may cause unwanted

pregnancies. Women should try different forms of birth control while taking RPT. The nurse can explain these different methods to you.

RPT and/or INH interact with the medications listed below. Please tell the nurse if you are taking any of these medications or if you begin taking them during treatment!
