Reflection

Day : Tuesday

Date : 8th April 2014

Today was the day I conducted Language Arts lesson. As this week they learnt about hygiene and cleanliness, I asked them to

create a simple Duty Roster of their own.

I found that the pupils were enjoyed my lesson of the day especially during development and consolidation stage. During

development stage, I did “Air Write” activity which is similar to charade. No pencil or paper was required for the activity, but the

pupils were actually learning new vocabulary. Furthermore, as this was a group activity, it allowed the pupils to communicate in the

language and improve on their use of language. Besides, to make it more interesting I gave marks to the groups for every correct

answer. Thus, this had made pupils engaged to my lesson. Then, during the consolidation stage, they created a simple Duty Roster of

their own. I realized that most of the pupils in my class love coloring activity, so I let them colored their Duty Roster.

However, my lesson plan was not as perfect as it should be. When I asked them to create a simple Duty Roster, they were not

able to write a simple sentence or come up with different Duty Roster. Thus, I gave them an example in power point and they merely

copy my Duty Roster and colored it. Also, most of my pupils were not able to get my instructions very clearly. Partly, it was because

my instructions were lengthy and they were not comprehended as most of them were lower intermediate learners.

Thus, in order to overcome my weakness, I must design an activity that suits their level of proficiency. For example, sentence

level is too difficult for year 1 pupils as they are first introduced to phonemes and word level. Also, while giving instructions, I must

make sure that it is short and precise so that the pupils are able to follow.
