(b). Slow Setting (SS -:1) It is used for Prime Coat. Crack sealing and fog seal.

(1). BITUMEN

Bitumen is a common binder used in road construction. It is principally

obtained as a residual product in petroleum reneries after higher fractions like

kerosene and diesel, etc. are removed. Indian Standard Institution

denes Bitumen as a black or dark brown non-crystalline soil or viscous

material having adhesive properties derived from petroleum crude either

by natural or by renery processes.

VG-10 is widely used in spraying applications such as surface dressing and

paving in very cold climate in lieu of old 80/100 Penetra�on grade. It is also used

to manufacture Bitumen Emulsion and Modified Bitumen products.

VG-030 is primarily used to construct extra heavy duty Bitumen pavements

that need to endure substan�al traffic loads. It can be used in lieu of 60/70

Penetra�on grade.

VG-40 is used in highly stressed areas such as intersections, near toll

booths and truck parking lots in lieu of old 30/40 Penetra�on grade Due to its

higher viscosity s�ffer Bitumen mixes can be produced to improve resistance to

shoving and other problems associated with higher temperature and heavy

traffic loads.`

Bitumen emulsions are a dispersion of bitumen in an aqueous continuous

phase stabilized by the addition of an emulsier. They are prepared as

emulsions at high temperatures, but applied as solid dispersions at ambient

temperatures. In road making, bitumen products are typically applied

with mineral aggregate

(3). CRMB : CRUMB RUBBER MODIFIED BITUMEN

CRMB is a blend of selected grades of Bitumen and modier. The rubber

modier used, balances the required visco-elastic balance of the bitumen binder

which improves the resistance to thermal and low temperature cracking

CRMB has good adhesion to different types of aggregates which therefore

reduce cracking deformation etc.

(a). CRMB(-55):

CRMB 55 is ideally suited for moderate climates. Majorly for Surface dressing

Wearing course, Stress absorbing membranes (crack sealing), Stress absorbing

membrane interlayer, Base course, Thin overlays, and more.

(b). CRMB(-60):

CRMB 60 is ideally suited for hot climates. Majorly for Surface dressing, Wearing

course, Stress absorbing membranes (crack sealing), Stress absorbing membrane

interlayer, Base course, Thin overlays, and more.

(4). THERMOPLASTIC ROAD MARKING PAINT

Reective thermoplastic marking material is recommended for use with the

thermoplastic screed application prams, thermoplastic screed application prams

motorised marking machines etc. These products of reective screed are

ideal for high output marking on highways. Thermoplastics has been the

preferred marking material since long in many countries such as the USA, UK,

Europe and Japan where its performance and cost-effectiveness have proved

its benets. In India, liquid paint is fast being replaced by high performance

thermoplastic road makings which have better physico-mechanical properties

and more durability as compare to the commonly used liquid paints

GRADES OF GLASS BEADS MARKETED BY RPC:

Glass beads are used to guide road users in the dark due to the presence of

glass beads on its surface reecting the lights of cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

The glass spheres (retro)reect the headlights of the vehicle to the driver, acting

like a mirror.

Glass beads which are blended into paint and thermoplastics during the

manufacturing stage. These beads are known as Intermix (also called Premix or

In- Mix beads). These beads have high longevity due to their thickness. As the

road marking paint wears over time due to friction from tyres and weathers,

the glass spheres that are embedded into the paint are exposed which ensures

retro-reectivity. This helps to increase the longevity of the paint as well as safety

of motorists.

(b). DROP ONSeveral countries use horizontal road markings. To increase longevity andreectivity of these road marking paints, glass beads are added to the paint atthe time of application These paints are known Drop-on beads. The spheres helpto increase retro-reectivity of the paint during RR (rainy), RI (dry) and RW(wet) conditions.
