BulletinSummer Term

Dear Parents,

In assembly on Monday I encouraged the children to reflect on what their Golden Buzzer moment might be in the next few weeks

and how, despite things being difficult at times the simple word YET added to ‘I can’t’ can make a world of difference. To illustrate

the point we watched the Kodi Lee clip from America’s got Talent that has been viewed over 28 million times. If you haven’t seen it

yet then it is well worth eight minutes of your time and I defy you not to be touched in some small way by Kodi and his mum.

Year 6 classrooms were transformed into Fairground workshops on Tuesday as the annual design technology day took place. I’m

not sure I would have ridden on some of the rides that were created for fear of either being thrown off or being very ill.

Nonetheless, the creations were excellent and my thanks to the Year 6 team and the parents who facilitated the day.

Wednesday saw the Paddock overrun with Teddy Bears and excited Lower Junior children as the weather held fair for the Teddy

Bears Picnic. Great fun was had by all and we hope to be able to make this an annual event.

Not to be outdone, Year 5 disappeared off to London for a River Cruise and London Eye experience. You can see from some of the

photos in the bulletin that a superb day was had by all and my thanks to the staff and parents who accompanied the visit and

made it such a success for everyone.

Residential trips, Senior School Transfer and Blended Learning were the themes on Thursday evening. Mrs King and the Year 6

team expertly took us through the forthcoming Year 6 residential trip to the Isle of Wight, Mr Hutchinson briefed parents on the

wonders that await in Year 7 and beyond and then Mr Janowski whizzed through the Year 5 residential trip to Bowles and a

session on the use of ipads in Year 5 and 6. A very informative evening and my thanks to all the staff who presented.

A 6.45am start tomorrow morning as I am off to the Olympic Pool tomorrow to marshal at the IAPS National Swimming

Championships and we all wish Zach (Y5) the very best of luck in the 25m backstroke race later in the afternoon.

If you have not had the chance to digest the letter that was emailed out on Thursday then I would encourage you to take time to

note the important information that it contains and if you are unsure about any of the details then please do not hesitate to ask us

as I understand that Whatsapp is not a particularly reliable source of information.

Wishing you all a very good weekend.

Mr James C Thompson

Junior School Headmaster

Year 6 DTOn Tuesday, the Year 6 children had a

wonderful day creating working

Fairground Rides! They had to focus on

creating a working circuit with pulleys to

ensure that their rides would work, as

well as making them look spectacular.

They used lots of problem solving skills

to figure some obstacles out, and have

well and truly earnt their visit to

Chessington at the end of the term!

Although we hope some of the rides

there are a little safer than the ones the

children created! A big thank you to

Mrs Bebawi, Mr Bradbury, Mrs Prinsloo

and Mrs Aspland for helping us too

Year 5 River Cruise and London Eye Trip

Year 5 had a fantastic day out to London on Wednesday to support our English topic of 'The London Eye Mystery'! The

children had an awe-inspiring ride on the London Eye and the weather held out for us meaning that there were fantastic

views to see in every direction. Afterwards, we took a closer look at London on the Thames River Cruise.

Our knowledgeable tour guide Jack taught us all about the different iconic bridges and buildings that surround the

Thames. We came back having learnt a lot of new facts about London!

In the story of 'The London Eye Mystery', a boy has mysteriously vanished during his trip on the London Eye. Now we

have lots of suspicions about where he could have got to and are full of ideas for our creative story writing!

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Nursery * Reception * Year 1

Nursery to Year 1 brought in their favourite

furry friend to enjoy a morning of fun

activities followed by a picnic – thankfully,

without any rain!!

Junior School Sport

Elena, Lorenzo, Dylan and Zac travelled to JAGS Sports

Centre on Wednesday night having qualified for the LSSA

Finals. The level of swimming on show was exceptional.

Medals and success at the LSSA Swim Finals

After making it

through their very

competitive semi-

finals, Lorenzo came

5th in backstroke and

Dylan a very

respectable 4th in

freestyle.

Both received medals.

An impressive achievement for the whole team!

The Upper Juniors made the best of a bad weather situation and took part in one of their

sports day activities. There was action in cricket, table tennis and swimming.

Upper Junior Sports Day

The athletics is now due to take place

on the afternoon of Monday 17th June

1.15pm - 3.30pm

If you shop at Woodcote Green Garden Centre this Spring/Summer, please remember to collect the 25p vouchers offered at the till, particularly for those larger purchases such as BBQs or garden furniture. Last year we collected enough for over £70 worth of credit to spend on seeds, plants, flowers and outdoor equipment for the children to enjoy.

Thank you x

One of our parents, Alice, has started volunteering with a charity called 'Their Voice' They do an amazing job

of helping to support girls rescued from human trafficking and modern slavery. Once the girls (sometimes with

children or pregnant) are rescued and placed in safe houses, they are referred to this charity to help support

them as they literally only have the clothes they arrive in.

They are in desperate need of cots, buggies, high chairs, baby baths. However, any baby/children’s

toys/clothes, baby/adult toiletries are very welcome. These items go direct to the girls, they have a delivery van

that is out on the road daily taking the much needed items to the frontline of care. They put together baby bags

and hospital bags for the girls, as these girls often have nothing nice for themselves, so we are wanting to give

new/unused toiletries so it doesn’t feel like a hand out, it is more a gift so they can start to value themselves.

If you would like more information on what they do here is their website:

Alice be at the school every morning 8.20ish and pick up Mon/Wed/Thurs 3.15-3.30 Tues/Fri 4.15-4.45. Mrs

Jones has said it is fine to leave items in Reception for me. She will leave the boot open on her black Passat

estate, (NX08 YKM), so you can pop things in there if it is easier for you.

You can let Alice know if you require a collection, or if you have any questions or would like to help in any other

way. Feel free to spread the word far and wide.

Thank you so much in advance

Warmest regards

Holiday Drop-Off

at Royal Russell

Hillcrest Netball Club was started in 1969 by a small nucleus of mums looking for an

outlet from the nappy washing and shopping at a sports field in Coulsdon situated on the

brow of a hill, hence the name ‘Hillcrest.’

It was soon to be established as one of the top six clubs in Surrey having played in all the

leagues Croydon and Surrey had to offer and boasting numerous County and England

players along the way.

We currently have three courts, two of which are floodlit.

Hillcrest currently runs four senior teams, teams for all junior age groups and a “Back to

Netball” section on Thursdays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. We also run a minis section (8 -11

years) on alternate Sunday mornings from 10.00 – 11.30am and a junior section (12-14

years) on a Monday evening from 6.00 – 7.30pm both at WRFC.

Despite being very competitive, Hillcrest is a very sociable and friendly club of all ages

and abilities where one can make many lifelong friends, so you see, from little acorns,

great oak trees can grow! Good Luck and enjoy yourselves!
