Douglas Treaties on DisplayThe Significance of the Vancouver Island Treaties: The result of early encounters between Northwest Coast Native Peoples and Europeans. These treaties document the communities, land and identity of aboriginal societies at the dawn of their colonial settlement experience, less than a generation before the Indian Act, Native reserves, and residential schools. They remain bedrock for First Nations rights and title within Canadian common law.

despite their original purpose, the treaties hold the potential for constitutional reconciliation, to inspire us to recognize our diversity of cultural values in a dialogue of mutual respect.

Race to the End of the EarthThe race is on! In 1911, two Antarctic-bound explorers, the Englishman Robert Falcon Scott and the Norwegian Roald Amundsen, led teams through harrowing conditions against a ticking clock. Who would reach the pole first? And when they got there, could either make it back home? This new exhibition recounts one of the most stirring tales of exploration – the dramatic contest to reach the South Pole.

Race to the End of the Earth brings history to life by exploring how these dangerous journeys paved the way for modern day polar research, ranging from geology to oceanography to astrophysics.
