Royal Alexandra and Albert School is the only state school in the country to offer boarding for Years 3-6. With an average of 50 junior boarders together with 80 local Flexi Boarders we have a vibrant community offering excellent education combined with unrivalled pastoral care. The character of the school is determined by the need to offer round-the-clock care and activities to the boarding community. Therefore, those children who are not boarders join the School as Flexi Boarders and enjoy after-school activities and supervised prep (homework) alongside their boarding peers. As a result, there is a harmonious atmosphere in the Junior Department and high levels of participation in all after-school activities including music, sport and theatrical productions.

LEARNING TO LEARN...Children find it easier to learn when they are safe and happy, so
your class teacher will spend plenty of time getting to know you as an
individual. All your teachers love what they do and are great at making
their subjects lively and interesting. Whilst your class teacher will be
with you for most lessons, you will have specialist teachers for certain
subjects, like Science, ICT, PE and languages.
There is an emphasis on balancing work and play in a safe and happy
environment where you grow physically and intellectually with every
passing day. The support of friends and staff will leave you feeling
confident in yourself and looking forward to every new experience.

WE HAVE A PLAN…We keep class sizes smaller than average making it easier for
teachers to ensure you are enjoying school and working above your
expectations.
We want you to achieve the very best results in your assessments,
so for core subjects like Maths and English you will work with groups
of a similar ability so you should not find the work too easy or too
hard. Study time in the evenings will give you plenty of time to
understand and absorb what you learned during the school day.
Every part of your school life is designed to help you discover the joy
of learning. We will give you a solid foundation of knowledge in each
subject so that you are prepared for what lies ahead in the Senior
School.

LIVING LIFE…A good balance between work and play is the ‘secret ingredient’ in a
well-rounded education. Academic success requires more than great
teaching and modern facilities. You will be encouraged to attend after
school activities at least three times a week. Although you probably
won’t need much encouragement as there are more than 20 sports
and activities to choose from!
Field trips are always popular, offering you the chance to visit places
like Hever Castle, PGL Adventure Camp, the Natural History Museum
and even the beach!
Your week will be packed with lessons, sport and activities, so you
will probably appreciate a more relaxed Sunday to play with your
friends or spend some quiet time reading or watching TV.

HOME FROM HOME…You will quickly feel part of a big family where a member of staff is
never far away. Your bedroom is warm and comfortable and you’ll
be sharing with other children of similar ages. Most children find that
their room-mates soon become good friends.
The purpose-built Health Centre is staffed by qualified nurses day
and night, and they will be there for you if you ever become unwell.
Your Head of House will always be there for you if you just need
reassurance or someone to talk to.
The food is healthy and tasty with a wide range to choose from in
the buffet-style dining room so you should always find something
you like.

YOUR NEXT STEP...In the Junior Department we will prepare you for the next stage in
your life: the Senior School.
You will have developed strong self-esteem and confidence in your
self. You will have high expectations about what can be achieved
when you work hard and persevere to achieve your goals.
These foundations will ensure you finish your time in the Junior
Department with a good all-round education and an enthusiasm
for learning which will equip you well for the challenges ahead.
The Senior School is a big step, but you will definitely be ready for it!
