Routine Care for Violin | Viola | Cello Need help from an expert? Do not leave instrument in extreme hot or cold temperatures (i.e. the car). Be careful not to stand the instrument on the scroll to avoid breaking the neck. Be sure to pluck strings on the fingerboard (not on the Bridge) Store the case on a shelf or table. Avoid putting the instrument or case on the floor or the bed. Where the case goes the violin goes…. Instrument should be used by student ONLY and not a sibling. Do not touch bow hair with hands. Securely close case before moving the violin or picking up the case. Do not try to tune your own instrument unless taught by the teacher first. Tighten bow when you want to play. Loosen bow when you put it away. Evenly rosin bow at least 1 time each week. For cello, do this every other day. Wipe off excess rosin from the instrument with a dry cloth after playing (not the bow hair). Cellos: When unpacking the cello, unpack the bow first, then the cello.
