Impacts (since March 2003)• 10 new public realm projects created and delivered• 3 new community groups and 1 business association
formed (now in fifth years)• £100k initial seed investment by Channel 4 and £70k
grant from CABE has become £14m capital & £3m revenue programme
• Partnership of eighteen public and private organisations
• Closure of two chemical factories and release of 150ha of brownfield land for residential development
• New retail, residential and cultural development plans in place for the town, valued at over £200m
• Two projects have now delivered second phase• Planning applications now coming forward for further
waterfront development• Involvement of local, national, international designers
and artists in a former coalfield town• Involvement of over 10,000 local people in an
organic, non funding-round-locked programme of social, economic and physical renewal
