USEFUL INFORMATION
ROUTE
Start at Hassop Station and head west on the Monsal Trailtowards Monsal Dale taking in the epic limestone railwaytunnels, the Headstone Viaduct, cotton mills and lime kilns.
Pass through Millers Dale Station and keep going almost tothe end of the trail next to Blackwell Cycle Hire. Leave it here, loop over the trail on a bridge and head south on the PennineBridleway up the steep hill. Through the gate at the top andimmediate left on the bridleway. Turn left onto the road and gothrough Blackwell. Then straight over at the cross roads, upthe hill. After the bend in the road turn left and go through Priestcliffe village. Continue straight down the hill on the
unclassified track called Broadway Lane. After about akilometre take the bridleway right into picturesque High Dale.
Rejoin the road and cross through Brushfield (please close allthe gates to protect the local children and horses). Follow thebyway round the top of Monsal Dale then head down a rockytrack. At the bend head left down a greasy, steep singletrackbridleway (watch out for walkers). Head over the viaduct along the trail to Hassop Station where you can finish theshorter route.
To continue on the longer route , add the ‘Eastern Loop’ byleaving the trail at next bridge along after Great LongstoneStation. Go right up Longreave Lane, towards Rowland. At theT junction go right towards Hassop. By Hassop Hall turn
right. 50 yards down the hill, just after Home Farm, turn leftonto the bridleway.
Enjoy the singletrack all the way to ‘13 Bends’ ( the A619Bakewell Road). Turn right on the road and then after 50 yardstake the bridleway left and climb to Pilsley. In the village go upthe road in front of the Devonshire, past the shop / post officeand school. Turn left on the B6048 and then right on the B6012 towards Chatsworth.
Go past the Cavendish Club and over the cattle grid. Turn right into Edensor and take the road up the hill that
eventually becomes a byway. At the top of the track turn leftand climb up Handley Lane B6480. 200m after the top of thehill take the bridleway left into the woods and enjoy the muddy, rutted descent down then through Bakewell golf course. Watchout for fallen trees and golf balls!
When you reach the road, please be aware of the locals gardenson the verges. Then turn left, then right, and go through the oldBakewell railway station. Left on Monsal Trail back to the
start of the ride at Hassop Station.

MAP KEY
This is a classic White Peak loop that can be ridden in sections or as a whole. It’s a really varied route with greasy limestone singletrack, fast rocky bywaydescents, and includes the famous Bakewell golf course descent.
There’s a choice of three route options:
1) The full route (Eastern and Western loops) is roughly 35km witharound 915m of climbing
2) The western loop including Brushfield is 23km with one rocky descent
3) Beginners will love riding along the smooth, all weather Monsal Trail.
There are a several sections on the Monsal Trail which can be busy and arepopular with families so take a bell, take it easy and sit back and enjoy theviews. We’d recommend avoiding the busiest times (weekends and Bank Holidays).
Also, it’s a great bad weather route as it’s not tooexposed and is a hard wearing surface. The tunnels are lit dawn ‘til dusk so if you head out later, take good lights as it’s dark in there!
When on the trails don’t forget to “Be Nice, Say Hi.”
