Our aim at Rougemont is to make sure that all students get the most they can from their education, enjoy their time with us and achieve their highest potential. Rougemont Nursery, the Preparatory School, the Senior School and Sixth Form each have unique qualities, but all share the common purpose of providing students with a first class education and the opportunity to work towards higher education and a successful career.

I am often asked what makes Rougemont special and my answer is always the same: we are a very friendly, inclusive school where every student from Nursery to Sixth Form matters. The journey of the individual is paramount here at Rougemont - we really are ‘A School for Life’.

I look forward to welcoming you to one of our Open Days to come and see for yourself what makes us special and our students so successful.

Mr Rob Carnevale Headmaster

NURSERY Let the journey begin...

Our vibrant Rougemont Nursery is very special, with a dedicated, experienced team, our Nursery allows each one of our little charges to lay the right foundations for their future.

Every child is different and our Nursery offers a safe, structured atmosphere, where children are provided with a plethora of opportunities and experiences to allow them to begin to hone their skills and understand their individual passions.

From cooking and crafting, to playing and performing, the activities are varied and exciting. Outcomes are carefully tracked and individual progress monitored and shared; little portfolios celebrate success and record milestones along the way.

With dreams fit for the imaginations of our little explorers...

let the journey begin...

PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Infant Years

Rougemont Preparatory School, the home of our grey blazers, builds the foundations for our charges to stride ahead through their Infant and Junior years, before stepping up to the challenges of the Senior School.

A nurturing environment allows each child to spread their wings and flourish, honing their core skills, with an emphasis on the excellence of tradition, explored and shaped with contemporary ideals, technologies and approaches.

Laying the foundations

A balanced curriculum, co-curriculum and multitude of opportunities and experiences, both within and beyond the classroom, underpin what we do. Core skills are firmly embedded; skills and confidences that take the children through the next step of their learning... and through life.

Competition, always friendly, of course, is introduced, with a House system that fosters team-work and a competitive spirit. Children are encouraged to pit their wits against one another, all whilst earning points for their Houses. The ultimate winner is the genuine sense of pride, respect and humility displayed by the children, no matter which House wins.

A School for Life means that our children are able to move seamlessly from one department to another, a journey that develops, directs and distinguishes our children, generating individuals, ready to embark on their next challenge.

Striding ahead, stepping out and seizing the opportunities to realise each individual ambition; the Senior School marks the next important step of the journey.

In school, we forge friendships, fortitude and our future... the happiest time of our lives! In the Senior School these happy memories are fostered. The nurturing and inclusive environment provides the perfect place for every student to thrive.

The broad and traditional curriculum allows for all students to find and develop their strengths and their love for learning; whilst the friendly, caring pastoral team helps them grow in confidence and happiness.

The strong foundations for learning and friendships, carved through the Prep years, are further developed. Whilst developing their own individual passions, they also contribute to the teamwork that underpins the day to day life of the School.

SENIOR SCHOOL Early Years

Instilling independence and a responsibility for learning distinguishes the Senior Years. A sense of commitment underpins the partnerships between teachers and students, working in harmony, where excellence can flourish.

Dreams and aspirations become reality, as all our students help to shape and define their school community, gaining confidence and integrity through key leadership roles.

Those small, tentative first steps become a confident stride toward success, with all our students fully prepared for the journey beyond school... their next independent steps.

With passions honed, skills developed and friendships forged, the curriculum becomes personalised to each student, as they embark on their Sixth Form years.

Successful study, discipline, respect and resilience are key steps along the way; achievements mark the milestones, as academic, creative, musical and sporting excellence are attained.

SIXTH FORM Shaping the future

“Sixth Form was one of the best experiences of my life to date.

I was able to study the subjects that really interested me, met lots of new friends and was granted

excellent opportunities to pursue my interests, like public speaking.”

SPORT

Sport plays an integral part in the lives of all our students at Rougemont, both within the curriculum and beyond. Opportunity sits at every level, with team sports balancing individual successes.

Starting from the early years, all our Infants have specialist teaching, building those hand-eye co-ordination skills and instilling a passion for playing. Team sports encourage a spirit of inclusivity, where the elite have their stage and players of all ability and interests find their niche, supported, challenged and celebrated by their team-mates. Netball, Hockey, Rounders, Cricket, Football and Rugby provide the traditional basis for the teams to succeed. Athletics, Gymnastics, Cross-Country, Tennis and Golf... to name but a few... recognise individual talents.

Sports fixtures form a regular part of the school week, interspersed with coaching sessions, where the children embrace the team spirit, the team bus and even the match tea!

With an impressive Co-Curricular programme complementing this, our expertise continues, with additional specialists and coaches seamlessly joining the team. From archery to baseball, basketball to equestrian, the games are only just beginning!

Education is more than imparting knowledge. It is about building character and empowering each individual to be an enthusiastic lifelong learner and a global citizen of the future. School years are the foundation in shaping character, moral values and preparation for a life of leadership and personal fulfilment. At Rougemont we nurture students to be Rougemont Ready for all aspects of life.

From our charity work to our wider experiences and opportunities, the journey leads far and wide, challenging our students to lead expeditions with the Duke of Edinburgh Award, make an environmental difference, as part of our Eco Platinum Award, as an Award-holder and make a global difference through the many leadership and experiential opportunities.

The plethora of Co-curricular and specialist sessions scatter the week, recognising the diverse interests of our students. Charity work and Eco work permeate the very fabric of what we do, creating a sustainable future and shaping the very journey our students take. Our proud partnerships also offer a welcome addition, sharing our ethos and extending our expertise beyond the classroom.

From the Refectory to the Auditorium; the servery to the stage, our students develop life-skills and life-long passions. Expertise guides the way, with our wonderful Chef inspiring and nurturing our youngsters, instilling his passion in cooking for life.

EVE WRIGHT “I am currently training with the World Class Start Great British Rowing Team alongside completing my final year at the University of Gloucestershire. Training full-time in hope of selection for Henley, HIRR, U23 World Championships and The Olympic Games.

I attend World Class Start GB camps monthly, testing attributes such as core, flexibility, strength tests, erg (rowing machine) times

and boat speed to make sure I am progressing throughout the months efficiently and maintaining my place on the programme.

Since being selected onto the programme I haven’t looked back, training early morning, every morning, on the water come rain, snow or shine. There are good and bad moments to any elite level sport but so far I have been loving every second in a competitive environment, with everyone wanting that top seat and the fastest boat.”

JENNIE SMITH Broadcast Journalist, BBC Radio Bristol “At school I was always getting stuck in to any activity on offer; music groups, sports teams, debating and performances. I had brilliant teachers in my favourite subjects and went to university to study English and then journalism.

I always had the chance to try new things and to be creative at school. In Sixth Form, I spent

many a happy hour creating new compositions on the piano in the music block. I think it was my love of music and writing that ultimately led me to work in radio.

Most importantly, I truly made lifelong friends at Rougemont, staying in touch through university, first jobs, marriage and babies. We even enjoy the odd weekend away together, and I know there are plenty more good times to come!”

ALUMNI

MARK HARRIES QC “I spent many happy years at Rougemont from the age of 5 to 18. During that time, I was lucky enough to win the Dorothy Small 5 Year Scholarship at 11 and a Sixth Form Scholarship at 16. I was a prefect and, in my final year, I was given the role of Head Boy.

The outstanding academic foundation Rougemont gave me for the years that followed was vitally important. Pastorally, I was encouraged from a young age to pursue my aspirations with confidence

and in the expectation they would be achieved; the extra-curricular opportunities in sport, public speaking and debating taught me resilience, responsibility and the importance of cooperation and teamwork.

I graduated in Law at QMW, London University and went straight to the Inns of Court School of Law for the Bar Vocational Course. I was called to the Bar in 1995 and after completing my pupillage, built a career in criminal defence work, eventually specialising in white collar fraud and homicide. In March 2019, I was appointed Queen’s Counsel.”

ALEX MAZZOLENI Commercial Airline Pilot “I left Rougemont in 2005 - it feels like a lifetime ago. I was there from years 7-13. I was always interested in the sciences and studied Economics, IT, Maths and Physics at A Level.

From there I did an internship at an aerospace company then went on to study a Master’s in Aerospace Engineering in Bristol. I worked for Airbus and GKN project managing and

business development then started a 2 year pilot training course with Oxford Aviation - 12 months in Oxford and 6 months in Arizona. After completing the course, I began flying for a small regional airline based out of Bristol. I am now flying for Norwegian Airlines based out of Gatwick and have been flying for 5 years.

I think Rougemont was a great learning environment and certainly wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for the education I received.”
