Our engineers respond to this extremely diverse challen-

ge with all its interdependencies through TRIOMETRIK

CONTROL. This is our engineering concept, conti-

nuously implemented, improved and optimised for

over 17 bike generations.

TRIOMETRIK CONTROL – defining every ROTWILD

bike – is the precise balance between the three de-

cisive factors ergonomics, geometry and kinematics.

It has always been our ambition to understand the-

se three aspects not individually but to address them

through a holistic technical approach. This allows us

to build bikes that meet the highly diverse expecta-

tions of the rider as well as fulfilling the needs of any

riding environment.

TRIOMETRIK CONTROL means technological advan-

tage by maintaining a balance of all relevant factors in

every riding situation and with that, keeping maximum

control over the system “bike”.

Our holistic approach enables us to optimise the

connection between bike and rider. We collabora-

te with international top riders as soon as we begin

prototyping. In real-life tests under varying condi-

tions they push the materials to the utmost limits, in

order to guarantee total control over the bike in any

given situation.

Our holistic ergonomic principle defines the charac-

ter of all our ROTWILD bikes and sets the tone for

all further geometric and kinematic configurations,

enabling us to build competitive bikes at the high-

est level, as is impressively documented by various

World Championship titles.

In order to generate the ideal geometry through set-

ting up the individual bike parameters, it is essential to

precisely calibrate distances, angular dimensions and

their ratios. In the process of defining the geometry

our engineers perform a rigid body analysis involving

optimisation algorithms as well as topology calculati-

ons. Using a finite element method they investigate

the rigidity of the individual components in relation to

their usage.

The fine-tuning of geometric values and correspon-

ding centres of gravity result in an ideal rider position

on the bike.

In order to achieve this, the chassis is conceived as a

fully active and drive-influence-free construction. We

therefore set up every chassis to conform to the over-

all concept of the ROTWILD bike in question.

For a precise kinematic design our engineers also rely

on multi-body simulations. Here internal and external

forces within a kinematic system are investigated by

using specifically developed algorithms.

Constructively, our engineers determine self-damping

and self-oscillation properties. Following their analysis

the exact frame rigidity is defined to make it as stiff as

possible while still being able to absorb a part of the

internal forces.

The final result is a highly efficient kinematic system

offering more forward momentum and improved con-

trol and less fatigue.

All ROTWILD race models are built with an exceptio-

nal eye for detail as well as the specific requirements

of professional competition in mind. From the very be-

ginning of the development process our engineers set

the standards high when it comes to using state-of-

the-art materials and assessing the extraordinary over-

all performance of innovative technology.

For the new race frames we developed the MMT2

production technology, a high-performance carbon-

fibre construction, which brings about significant

weight reduction while at the same time increasing

STW values by employing HM high module fibres. The

allocation of the carbon mats pays tribute to stress

profiles under race conditions. Extensive analysis and

testing ensures that specifically modified segment

shapes ideally absorb torsional and bending forces.

More than anything else, geometry and kinematics

define the character of a bike. This is where our en-

gineers invest their know-how from many years of

successful racing development. The new ROTWILD

competition bikes therefore draw on the consistent

philosophy of the successful ALS chassis. It is our aim

to achieve a balance of all factors that make a diffe-

rence when racing: Traction, forward momentum and

responsiveness therefore are qualities the new XCS

chassis must excel in.

After intensive calculations our engineers implemen-

ted a modified spring characteristic with tuned end

progression for the XCS chassis. The position of the

linkage pivot point in front of the seat tube improves

performance even during sag. The flat angle between

linkage and suspension as well as the extended pivot

angle generate the unique self-stabilising qualities of

the XCS chassis at the beginning of compression. Fur-

thermore, the virtual pivot point located higher up re-

duces bobbing when cycling uphill.SE

Our specialists employ a permanent development cy-

cle within which they continuously define ideal kinema-

tics as well as analyse the latest findings in the fields

of material and chassis technology. These parameters

are then tested for their relevance towards new con-

structive possibilities.

For the first time ROTWILD rely on the alloy AL6066

for the new generation of their XC 29ers. The all-en-

compassing knowledge of material qualities and pro-

cessing of specifically designed tubes allows for gre-

ater stiffness, less fatigue and more tensile strength

while precisely determining wall thickness and struc-

tural design for the individual tube segments.

The High End Hydroforming Tube Set was optimised

for the requirements of the 29-inch wheels. The con-

spicuous shape and usage of the tapered head tube

increase stiffness. At the same time, not applying

gussets in this area allows for a more even stress dis-

tribution on the material. According to the amount of

stress placed on every single segment, the tubes’ wall

thicknesses vary. Furthermore, tube profile and con-

tours are also optimised with regard to stress-resis-

tance. Triple butted and triple channelled tubing takes

a great deal of time and effort to construct, but cuts

excess weight.

The forward-urging XCS chassis is designed for 130

mm of travel with a high degree of final progression

and improved bottom-out protection. The arrangement

of linkage und suspension was developed in order to

improve self-stabilising properties, which make the

system less prone to bobbing. The compact structure

reduces weight, while the linkage itself is ball bearing

based which allows it to move almost without friction

when the suspension pivots max 60°. This leads to

significantly improved response.

Kinematics, control and everyday touring capability

call for consistent improvements of all significant fac-

tors within the entire engineering process. Making the

frame as light as possible while taking into considerati-

on major external forces on rugged terrain provide for

a host of challenges. The ROTWILD engineers employ

their know-how and extensive fine-tuning capabilities

in order to successfully meet these challenges through

a variety of innovations and detailed enhancements.

The new R.X1 combines the advantages of the light

AL6066 alloy with the constructive options offe-

red by hydroforming production. All tube segments

and structures have been minutely designed in ac-

cordance to stress profiles using elaborate technolo-

gies: Wall thickness and structural details were ad-

justed to comply with the direction of the principal

stresses with the help of FEM methods. Despite high

loads the usage of gussets is not necessary, which

helps reduce stress concentrations. The new linkage

is lighter and more resistant to lateral loads. The struc-

tural design in combination with the completely new

chain stay provides more tyre space.

A well-balanced ride requires extreme precision when

conceiving the geometry and kinematic qualities in

order to perfectly integrate the ride into all ride situa-

tions. In order to achieve this our engineers improved

the rider’s centre of gravity. A slacker steering angle

and less stand-over ensure a smooth ride and better

downhill performance.

The kinematics and pivot points of the XMS chassis

with 150 mm of travel are optimised for All Mountain

riding. The chain stay remains fully active and unim-

pressed by drive influences in all riding situations. The

progressive character is part of the chassis concept.

The chassis can translate a sensitive response with an

ample amount of travel in hand into remarkable per-

formance and efficiency.

Enduro riders not only need a lot of travel and a solid

frame, but also a highly responsive chassis. In deve-

loping the chainstay kinematics for our E1 models we

drew on a variety of data analyses from our tech lab as

well as many real life tests. Designed for 180 mm of

travel, that is where the XMS four pivot points chassis

plays out its constructive strengths. For the RACE mo-

del the ROTWILD engineers responded to the require-

ments of Enduro riders, looking for a particularly light

bike with full on racing qualities.

All ROTWILD Enduros profit from the technical su-

periority of the XMS chassis. The active suspension

system was conceptualised to ensure that the drive

forces (= chain pull) always remain below the virtual

pivot point when compressing. This helps minimise

riding influences. Throughout the entire travel range

the chainstay displays modified suspension charac-

teristics. At the beginning the suspension is linear and

becomes increasingly progressive towards the end.

With a low threshold and immediate responsiveness

the chassis delivers perfect downhill performance and

keeps ideal ground contact even over larger obstacles,

maintaining full traction at all times and a high degree

of bottom-out protection.

Together with pro riders the new Enduro with 160 mm

of travel was developed specifically for racing, incorpo-

rating the advantages of 650B wheels in an innovative

concept. The newly developed Channel AL6066 frame

is particularly light while retaining great stability and

torsional stiffness through its constructive dimensi-

ons and profile. The frame is designed to absorb great

loads through high speeds and jumps. Our engineers

adjusted the geometry with slacker steering angles

and an improved wheel stance for smoother and qui-

cker descents. The compact frame with a low centre

of gravity put the rider in absolute control through an

ideally centred seating position.

With the R.S2 ROTWILD has developed a thorough-

bred race bike for riders looking to bring competitive

performance technology to the streets. ROTWILD’s top

quality road bikes make no compromise when it co-

mes to achieving outstanding excellence.

The ultra-light carbon frame is a technological high-

light providing ultimate propulsion. Its improved cross-

sections, wall thicknesses and layup configuration fol-

low the simple principle: Forward momentum through

maximum efficiency; finely tuned to the manifold

forces and loads applied to the frame.

The varied tube channelling and precise tube shaping

offers extraordinary ride stability even in the most ex-

treme situations. The S2 frame is designed for great

torsional stiffness. Reinforcements in all critical com-

ponents such as steer tube, bearings and drop outs

add to a safer ride on fast descents, as do the bike’s

balanced geometry and precise handling. For a maxi-

mum power transfer the engineers dedicated a great

deal of their attention to the construction of the bottom

bracket area. The increased diameter of the bottom

bracket ensures the necessary stiffness without ad-

ding weight. The rider’s power output is translated into

forward momentum almost without loss.

A comfortable ride over long distances is achieved

by significantly reducing high-frequency oscillations

– caused by riding on uneven surfaces – in the large

boundary layers between the fibre and resin (matrix).

For this purpose, our engineers have analysed every

single tube segment and redefined its qualities. The

combination of shape, cross-section and design with the

carbon layup of the frame results in a construction that

brings together high stiffness and unique dampening.

OBIL

ITY.

Reliable frame performance is key to a perfect every-

day ride. That is why ROTWILD’s T models are based

on the high-end tubing technology that comes straight

from the mountain bike research department. Our en-

gineers undertook the necessary modifications to cater

to the touring segment, offering second-to-none tech-

nology combined with comfort and every-day usability.

The Aluminium Channel Tubing frame set is stress-

improved to add specific stiffness to the already solid

and durable frame, so that you can easily ride with

additional luggage weight. At the same time the T mo-

dels remain extremely light and accelerate quickly.

The high frame stiffness guarantees ideal ride safety,

making the bike easy to control even on fast descents

and when cornering.

A well-balanced seating position adds to comfort on

long rides. The ROTWILD engineers have combined

a sporty geometric disposition with a proportional seat

and steering angle as well as a low centre of gravity.

This achieves perfect agility, comfortable pedalling

and high efficiency on the bike.

In comparison to a mountain bike the chain stays are

slightly longer and constructively designed for 28-inch

wheels. Bumps on uneven roads are absorbed better,

obstacles more easily taken and the longer stance in-

creases directional stability, which leads to improved

forward momentum.

The T models are a great travel companion with their

many intelligent details. Whether using the standard

set-up or custom features, frame mounting points

make retrofitting of mud guards, carriers and side

stands as simple as possible. Maintenance-free hyd-

raulic disc brakes provide superior control and incre-

ase safety on long distances with heavy loads and in

wet conditions.

In co-operation with the manufacturer BOSCH ROTWILD

have developed innovative Pedelec concepts for more

on- and off-road mobility. The hybrid bikes offer new pos-

sibilities for riding further and faster with less effort.

Our engineers not only call on their experience with ma-

terials, shapes and processing but also combine these

with advanced drive technologies to make modifications

for various fields of usage. Be it as a touring bike on the

road or a mountain bike off the beaten track, ROTWILD

hybrid bikes are at the same time sports equipment

and everyday modes of transport.

The controls are easily monitored and simple to use

even when riding. The HMI interface displays all the

important information such as current speed, distance

travelled, battery charge and support mode. Choose

from four different support modes (Eco, Tour, Sport and

Speed) in three varying degrees to adjust the ride to

your personal preference and track conditions.

The drive unit presents reliable and top-quality techno-

logy: A highly efficient 250 watt motor with a gear box

and ECU (electronic control unit). The light high-perfor-

mance motor allows great range with high torque and

consistent support throughout speeds of up to 25 km/h.

The ECU receives data from three different sensors

(crank torque, cadence and speed) integrated into the

overall system and is capable of displaying the current

status at all times (analysis frequency: 200 times per

second). The lithium-ion battery provides a particular-

ly strong energy supply with an overall performance of

288 Wh; full recharging takes 2.5 hours.

For ROTWILD development means that our designers

and specialists continuously re-dedicate themselves

to our clothing line and also apply the ROTWILD stan-

dards of innovative thinking, attention to detail and

high performance to our fashion items. Since inten-

se activities like cycling require specially developed

clothing, uncompromising functionality is the key.

Efficient moisture management and a high degree of

breathability are just as important as a perfect fit with-

out restraining physical movement. Therefore, the

RCD line uses state-of-the-art technical materials for

ultimate comfort. Special laminates and cuts are used

to precisely meet the requirements of many endu-

rance sports and cycling.

ROTCOUTURE is a dedicated approach to designing

women’s clothing to meet the specific needs of female

bikers. Special anatomic cuts, comfort-wear materials,

clever details and a unique look make a clear state-

ment underlining the high-quality and functional ap-

peal of the ROTCOUTURE collection: A feminine style

for dynamic women.

Reliable wind and weather protection is essential. At

the same time it must not disturb the biking experi-

ence. This excellent production quality is immersed in

a unique design. However, fundamentally ROTWILD

clothing really has only one main objective: It must

work. For miles and miles of tireless biking.
