Rotary Foundation
• An integral part of the Rotary International since 1917, is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions.
• Support and fosters many international projects through grants like
– Disaster Recovery
– District Simplified Grants,
– Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants,
– Matching Grants etc
• The Rotary Foundation is a corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.
• It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
• US$600 million and countless volunteer hours to help immunize more than two billion children against the crippling and often fatal disease of polio.
Rotary India
• CALCUTTA was the home town for the first Rotary club in the mainland of Asia in 1920. Bombay and Madras came on the Rotary map in 1929.
• Today there are about 70,000 Rotarians in India.
• The most visible program is the Polio Plus project which seeks to eradicate Polio from the face of the earth.
Rotary District 3140
• Then, RI District 3140 came into existence on 1st July 1970 with a membership of 1702 in 34 clubs.
• As of June 2011, there are 6500+ Rotarians in 123 Clubs in District 3140.
Rotary Club of Deonar
The Rotary Club of Deonar began in May 1987. The club is 25 years old and has 64 members
representing different professions / businesses- with vast experience in various community programs benefiting the underprivileged & the differently challenged.
The average age of the club member is 45 The club has a Rotaract club, an Interact club, a senior
citizens club and four Rotary Village corps under its wings
The Polio Project All houses in Shivaji Nagar were enumerated and Polio vaccine dose
was given to nearly 68,000 children in one year. This area has recently been declared ‘polio-free’
Ever since Polio eradication program was started, the club consistently won the Polio Eradication Trophy for maximum number of immunizations every year. The club got the distinction of being called Polio Plus club.
However the work continues with similar such drives being carried out systematically across slum pockets in these suburbs.
The 3 key projects of the club are– Polio corrective surgeries, – Burns surgeries & skin donation program and – Education and Healthcare facilities to a hamlet of 30 villages in Karjat.
Polio Corrective Surgeries
Every year for the past 10 years, the club conducts 2 camps in a year in remote location of Maharashtra, where a team of local & international doctors conducts polio corrective surgeries for 4 days.
On an average 100 procedures are performed in each camp.
Free Callipers are distributed to needy patients
The Burns Project
Over 1000 extensive burn patients every year in Mumbai, the survival rate is 40%.
Working in association with Operation Smile and the National Burns Centre the Rotary Club of Deonar contributes to these programs:
Surgery Camps
Community burns prevention awareness
Approx 80 surgeries/ procedures every year
From pre-screening to discharge - all facilities are provided free of cost
Actively promotes skin donation through focused drives and the media.
Village Adoption Project
Education, Sanitation and Drinking Water Project in a hamlet of 30 villages in Karjat
47 bore wells provided so far
35 community toilet blocks
A library for local schools
Medical camps on regular basis
Provision of benches for school children
Check dam for water conservation
Proposed construction of English medium school

Rotary Club of Deonar organises Auto Cross rally with a difference- the proceeds collected will be ploughed back towards the 3 Projects the Club has been involved in.
Auto Cross is a popular spectator sport which is fun, exciting, fast and completely safe. It also involves no major logistical arrangements or permissions
