“It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.” We’ve heard variations of this idea numerous times, and it certainly has an el-ement of truth in that business transactions (or employment offers) happen more easily with those familiar to us. Even before Rotary became known for its humanitarian efforts, its very roots encouraged professionals to meet

to exchange ideas and form personal relation-ships with people inside and outside their normal circles of influence. In other words, networking.

We want to honor our history in this regard and encourage all Rotarians to take advantage of the unique networking opportunities we have, both within our own clubs and with other clubs in the district that may not be so familiar. This is the reason for the inaugural Rotary Business Directory. As Rotarians, we have access to almost 3,000 like minded individuals within our district with wonderfully diverse talents, expertise, products and services. I believe most of us have taken advantage of this common denominator when approaching a new contact. The Directory will make us so much more effective.
